Going Forward 6

April 20, 2020

Each Friday, DOC and Saint Elizabeths will produce an update to the status of

recommendations adopted from the court’s report, as well as other recommendations

created by these peer reviews.

Director Clinton Lacey is the mayoral appointed executive lead of the effort to continually monitor and improve

the execution of next steps to prevent and respond to the presence of COVID-19 in DOC’s facilities. He will lead

a small team of health and operational experts from DYRS, DBH, and DOC who will review, scrutinize, and, when

appropriate, recommend changes to the policies and practices in place at the DC Jail and Saint Elizabeths.

The DOC has requested 30 medical volunteers from the DC Medical Reserve Corps to assist with screening staff and inmates for symptoms.

Mayor’s Order 8

April 20, 2020

Last month, the city’s sole commercial federal firearms licensee (FFL) abruptly ceased accepting any new business. MPD and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice immediately started

working on options to meet residents’ Second Amendment requirements, while also ensuring public safety.

This Mayor’s Order delegates to MPD the authority to operate as the District’s FFL while there is no other

commercial FFL operating in the city.
