DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF PEDAL POWER

    WASHING MACHINE

    ABSTRACT

In the developing world, washing laundry is a difficult, time-consuming

task the falls solely on women. Mothers and daughter typical spend 8 hours

each week scribing each piece of their family’s clothing and writing out the

    harsh washing solution by hand.

Powered washing machine eist, but they are impractical in rural reasons

because running water and electric are epensive or unavailable. !everal groups

already tried to build a machine for the regions but they have been

unsuccessful. "heir machines were either to build and repair because they

improved parts or they do not wash effectively.

#ur invention is a low cost, pedal power washing machine that designedaround readily available parts. Its innovation is its simple design and its use

inepressive plastic barrel and bicycle components. "he parts are available

locally, so we can be manufactured and repaired in the community without

    depending on imported goods.

    HISTORY:

    • #ne of conse'uences of globali(ation is that there is great competition in the

market and it is increasingly speciali(ed.)very day, there are more types of

washing machine.the available models get more and more effective

noiseless, economical, light and their design ad&ust to the place where you want to

place them.that is why you should eactly know the types of machine you are

looking for,it’s particular features and the key 'uestions you should ask the

    salesperson.

    • "here are many kinds of washing machine. !ome of them are for industrial use and

others for consumer use 2some have top-loading and others front-loading design 2some

of them include spin dryer and others do not. 3ow a days, many washing machines

offer digital technology that help you control details such as time, speed and vibrations

during the drying process.Modern machines goal is to finish a great load of working in

a short time, with the less possible user’s help.

    1. INTRODUCTION:-In our developing country, rural women are among the least privileged. 5omen are

both essential to the family unit and integral to the economy, yet they rarely have e'ual

opportunities for career development, or social status when compared to men. #ne factor

behind the ine'uality is the long list of responsibilities that traditionally fall to women. 3ot

only do women perform agricultural duties and care for livestock alongside men, but

women are also responsible for many domestic works. 6sually, new technology improves

people’s efficiency, but women benefits less from new technology for several reasons. *irst, women’s duties are neglected by technological improvement efforts because of domestic

works are often seen as cultural obligations for women little efforts is epended to diminish

    them.

!econd, foreign aid in the form of appropriate technologies is unevenly distributed

because women are often considered less technically competent than man. *actors like this

these tend to prevent the development of improvement technology for women’s

uncompensated, time-consuming, and laborious task. #ur team intends to directly address

the plight faced by laborious task. #ur team intends to directly address the plight

faced by women by developing a pedal-powered washing machine. /n average woman may

do two to three loads per week for a family about four children and her husband. It

generally takes at least 8 hours of washing time , not including the etra time needed to

walk to the public washing machine reservoir or hang up clothes to dry.

/dditionally, while washing machine clothes by hand, women spend hours learning

over a concrete basin. 7lothes are washing by laboriously scrubbing each section of clothes

over a cement washboard with their hands immersed in detergents that are harmful to

    the skin.

"he pulley works like the wheel on the bike. "he belt attaches it to the generator.

"his allows the work done on the bike to be translated to the generator. "he belt and the

pulley are each one of si simple machines, commonly used for all sorts of mechanical

     pro&ects.

#n pedal power devices the type of pulley needed is divided between whether the

pedal-power device replaces a motor device as in the case of the washing machine9, or if

the pedal power device generates electricity as in the pedal-powered television9 "he motor-

replacing devices commonly use a shaft-mounted drive pulley. :owever the pulleyfor electricity-generating devices uses a fan belt.

/ nut is a type of fastener with a threaded hole. 3uts are almost always used

opposite a mating bolt to fasten a stack of parts together. "he two partners are kept

together by a combination of their threadsA friction, a slight stretch of the bolt, and

compression of the parts. In applications where vibration or rotation may work a nut

loose, various locking mechanisms may be employedB /dhesives, safety pins or lock

wire, nylon inserts, or slightly oval-shaped threads.

"he most common shape is heagonal. for similar reasons as the bolt head - C

sides give a good granularity of angles for a tool to approach from good in tight spots9,

but more and smaller9 corners would be vulnerable to being rounded off. #ther

speciali(ed shapes eist for certain needs, such as wing nuts for finger ad&ustment and

    captive nuts for inaccessible areas.

    •  B O LT S:-

;olts are defined as headed fasteners having eternal threads that meet an eacting,

uniform bolt thread specification such tha cutting, as well as for more closely controlled operations. )ach

process has particular capabilities and limitations. !pecial applications include shape cutting, grooving, gouging,

    and underwater cutting.

    CONSTRUCTION

7onstruction a cylindrical drum using metal of re'uire dimension. Present the

bicycle and make the bicycle carriers using tube, angles or other flat irons available. /ll

elements are together to the bicycle. !lots are drilled into the plates, which allow for the

ad&ustment of teh voltage belt. Place the bicycle on the chassis, measuring using a string the

length of the belt if necessary. ?rill hour holes into the flame and secure. 6se chain to

transmit power from pedal to pulley putting it in place, tighten tender and the machine is

    ready effectively.

7lean your clothes, the rotation of the tank should not be too fast about FK- 8K rpm.

Manufacture, use and maintenance of the pedal powered washing machine is available.

    GEARING

"he machine uses a regular mountain bicycle transmission which can provide

gar ratios between B. "he user is epected to turn the pedal of the machine about FK rpm

the wash cycle and a higher 8K rpm during the dry cycle, where the lack of resistance from

makes pedalling easier. 5ith a inner drum diameter of in, at a B gear ratio, pedalling at

FKrpm results in a centripetal acceleration on the clothing of about K.8Fg, which results in

efficient clothing tumbling. *or the spin cycle, the user would which switch to the highest

available gear, and a pedal speed of 8K rpm in an acceleration of +K kg. "his has been shown

    to etract

GKL of water from wet cotton clothing2 remaining water weight in clothing is approimately

KL of the dry fabric weight comparable to commercial vertical ais washing machine.

    WORING PRINCIPLE

;asically it’ separate like as a washing machine. ;ut in this pro&ect we don’t use the

electric power to move the washing machine wheel. 5e are using cycle pedal2 by

pedalling the washing wheel be moving. 5e use in it two pulley which ratio is B, means

when small one is moving times big one is rotating ones. /fter the power transfer through

a bevel gear, though another pulley2 which is connect to the end of the bevel gear. 5hen

we moving the first pulley time2 means the washing pulley will rotate Ctimes. ?uring, this

    clothes will be wash.

CONCLUTION/s per curriculum vitae of mechanical engineering we introduced pedal powered

washing machine. 5e introduced this for an alternative for washing machine in this

power cry sis situation. :ere, we are having a low cost washing machine with cycle power,

it ca n be used as an eercise e'uipment. It is a low cost, economical @ energy saving.
