Fun Facts: May and June

· The month of May is named after Maia, the oldest daughter of Atlas and

· May, in the Roman calendar, was originally the third month of the

year. However, when January and February were added, it became the

fifth month.

· Similarly, June was originally the fourth month of the year in the origi-

On April 5th, Allen Shockley held a demonstration on severe weather. Mr. Shockley used a fish tank

and food coloring for his simulation of what happens when a cold front meets a warm front. He also

discussed the dangers of tornadoes and safety precautions to take. Mr. Shockley also informed the

students of what actions to take while on campus if a tornado were in the area.

On Tuesday, April 18, 2017, Student Support Services held their annual Spring Recognition Ceremony at

ICC West. The students were recognized for graduating from ICC and maintaining a GPA of 2.5 and

above. Special recognition was given to the student with the most hours in the Tutoring Center, most

polite, positive attitude, sense of humor, encouraging to others, and most helpful. In addition,

recognition was given to the ICC Tutoring Center Peer Tutors. The 2017 Spirit of Trio Award was given

to Mary Bailey, Bluffstone General Manager. Speakers for this event were Taylor Crawshaw, Associate

Dean of Academic Support Services, Breta Campus, SSS Director, and guest speaker Cody Westerhold,

Student Activities. Congratulations to our SSS graduates and participants.
