Years 1, 2, 5 and 6 have had a
busy start to the year, already
having been on school trips to
Staircase House and the Liverpool
Slavery Museum respectively.
There are some more
photographs and information
about these two trips on the
following two pages.
We are busily making plans for
moving back into the new parts of
the school building. All of our
new furniture is ordered and is to
be delivered after the school
holidays ready to put into our new
classrooms. Paint colours and
floorings were chosen months ago
along with new toilet cubicles and
sink units too. It is very much like

Autumn 1
September/October 2015
Dear All
As I write, I find myself
mysteriously in the middle of
October with absolutely no idea
whole stole September from us
all! Our new Reception pupils are
full of energy and have settled in
brilliantly in spite of our grown up
disappointment that this was not
in the new building as we had
hoped for—more of that shortly—
However, the children are still
being provided with a top quality
start to their education with us at
Warren Wood and will still be the
first children into the new areas of
the building when we eventually
move in.
buying a new house—
making plans, ordering
and preparing for the move
but now we are waiting for
the keys and to exchange
contracts! Please read on
the following pages for the
latest updates and news .
Have a well earned holiday
and rest and let’s all look
forward to what the next
term will bring us all in the
shape of a brand new
school!
Many thanks
Mrs Reyes

Congratulations!
Over the October
half term holiday,
Mr Boardman is
going to be made an
‘honest man of’ as
he marries his
fiancée, Emma.
With both Mr
Boardman and
Emma being
teachers, they have
thoughtfully planned
their wedding around
half term and so upon
his return, Mr
Boardman will have a
Mrs Boardman! We
would all like to
extend our warmest
wishes for the
happiest of wedding
days to both Phil and
Emma for a happy ,
healthy and blessed
life together.
Baby Love!
For the eagle eyed amongst you, you may have
noticed that Mrs Prior and Mrs Whittle are both
expecting babies very soon. Mrs Prior has
actually begun her maternity leave already and
Mrs Whittle will be leaving us not long after
half term. We wish both of them well and
cannot wait to meet the new little ‘Woodies’ to
join our school family. Lots of love to all
members of the two families over the next few
weeks as this exciting time unfolds. We will
bring you news of the new arrivals as soon as
we have any.

Our Upper Juniors recently visited Liverpool
Slavery Museum to support their topic of ‘Out
of Africa’. The pupils were given opportunities
to handle artefacts, discuss their uses and
purpose and create a power point presentation
for the rest of the group to listen to. Leaders
at the museum also gave talks about some
famous black people who have achieved great
things in spite of the prejudice they have faced.
Pupils also watched videos outlining how
slaves travelled by boat in gruelling conditions
in order to be used as slaves in other countries.
The children said watching these videos made
them feel sad and disgusted with what they
saw.
This was a truly humbling experience for our
pupils who, upon reflection, reported that this
made them appreciate life as they know it so
much more. I would like to think that maybe
next time they have a little grumble at home
when you ask them to tidy their bedrooms, that
they are reminded of this!

New School News
It has been a time of mixed emotions
recently where the building has been
concerned. We were so very excited
about the idea of moving into our new
school just after the summer holidays.
However, due to situations beyond our
control, the new roof was delayed in
being transported to us from Germany due
to technical issues. In turn, without a roof,
we could not secure the building and make
it water tight in order to proceed with
internal works. If you recall, once the roof
arrived, delivery was again delayed due
to it being difficult in gaining access to site
and there were many tense moments that
week in watching it be delivered with our
fingers and toes crossed. Pleasingly, since
its arrival and in it being secured, work
inside the building has been busy and
industrious each day. I am sure from
the outside of the building it has not
looked like much has changed, but in-
side we now are fully rewired, have new
data provision, underfloor heating is in
place, floors are screeded and ready for
covering and plastering has begun. Once
plastering is finished, decoration will
begin and so very quickly, we are seeing
all of the strands coming together.
Whilst it may feel like a slow process,
this job was never supposed to be
finished until early 2016 and so the only
disappointment is in the fact we feel
impatient in wanting to be back inside
the school together again. It is be-
cause of this that we have
unfortunately not been able to hold
our usual harvest celebration for the
infant parents and it is also why our
Christmas concert will again be held
at Hazel Grove Baptist Church.
Further information will be sent out
after half term about the specifics of
this. The date for your diaries is on
the back of this newsletter. Once
we are back in the main building and
we have a hall once more, we will be
able to host more community
events such as coffee mornings and
of course, we will have a launch
party for our new school in the
Spring. Exciting times are ahead for
us all and we cannot wait to share
the journey with you !

Years 1 and 2 — Staircase
House Museum
Pupils in Years 1 and 2 visited
Staircase House Museum in
Stockport to learn more about
the Great Fire of London as part
of their topic
‘Through the Keyhole’. This is a wonderful trip for
pupils (and adults) as it gives the pupils chance to
‘step back in time and dress in period costumes. If
you look closely at the pictures around the edge of
this section, you may see ‘Samuel Pepys’, ‘King
Charles II’, ‘Jane the Maid’ along with other
characters who retold the story of the night that
the Great Fire of London as it broke out on
Pudding Lane.
Pupils also had sessions in the kitchen of the
house, where they could handle objects and
discuss how the kitchen would have worked over
400 years ago. In another session, pupils were
able to recreate their own
versions of ‘wattle and daub’ in
order to see how houses and
homes were built hundreds of
years ago. A thoroughly good
time was had by all!
Please take note of our new signs around
school concerning the use of bikes and
scooters on the school premises and
concerning dogs on schools grounds. Whilst
the signs are new, the messages are not and
we ask you respectfully to make sure that if
bringing a bicycle or scooter to school, that
your child does not ride this ANYWHERE on
school grounds. Some children came to
complain to me that other pupils were riding
their bikes on the top playground and that
they nearly caused an accident bumping into
the smaller children who were arriving at
school in the morning. It is not safe to ride
bikes on the school playground at any time
and those who do persistently or those who
cause accidents will be asked not to bring
their bikes again. Please keep each other
safe. Thank you.
As the next stages of our
building take shape, you will
notice how the safety fencing has
been moved to accommodate
new ground work taking place,
specifically around the back of
our new library area, and the
junior classrooms. The pathway
around the classrooms has
become very congested of late
and can make the safe entry and
exit of the pupils a little tricky at
drop off and home times too.
When this happened at the front
of school near the infant classes,
we made alternative arrangements for
the younger children to come out a little
earlier at home time to alleviate the
flow of ‘human traffic’ . For the same
safety reasons and for that of safety, we
respectfully ask that parents of junior
age pupils make arrangements to meet
your children on the top playground at
3:15. Find a convenient spot that you
both agree upon and remind your child,
as we always do, that if they cannot find
you there, to please go back to their
class teacher who will take them to the
office. We need to keep the access
points and path as clear as we can and
your help in this matter would be most
appreciated. Thank you.

STOP PRESS—JOB VACANCY
We have an opportunity to offer the post of Casual Midday Assistant. This is a relief post that can be
flexible and to cover illness of existing Midday Staff. There may also be a possibility of this becoming a
longer term position at a later date. For further details, please ask at the school office or check the school
website under the ‘Our School’ tab and ‘Vacancies’ for further details.
Please remember to check the school website for current diary dates, the year calendar and
extra newsletters from each team that give you up to the minute information about events
and special days we have planned leading up to Christmas, including Christmas parties.
Parking problems around school continue to cause distress and upset to local residents. Staff and contractors do not park in
the area directly in front of school as requested by the council out of respect to local residents. However, on a daily basis, I
still receive telephone calls of complaint and e mail photographs of vehicles of parents cars that have parked inappropriately.
Whilst this reminder may well be wearing a little thin with all of us, please remember that if you have a direct concern about
parking that speaking to school is far more effective than writing personal or slanderous remarks about school or its staff on
social media. These messages also get back to us and any message of a derogatory, personal or slanderous nature may lead
to us seeking legal advice. We are here to teach your children, not to be abused via social media. Thank you.
