Find Purpose in the World – Discover and use your giftsIt is important to know that God can use people with any set of spiritual gifts at any time to accomplish His purposes on the earth.

Visit www.warrenbaptist.org. Go to Finding Purpose and complete the on-line gifts assessment. A brief explanation of each gift is provided.

The purpose of a spiritual gifts assessment is to take an in-depth look at what characteristics are likely to match the description of a particular spiritual gift. It is important to remember that the most reliable indicator of a spiritual gift is the affirmation of these personal characteristics by others.

Pray for an opportunity to use these gifts in ministry and ask about specific ways you can serve with the faith family.

You need to be aware of many of the service opportunities here at Warren. They are listed below.

t may be a catchy name for a ladies boutique. Or just a clever way to remember the address of a downtown store.

But the shop’s “proprietor,” Jennifer Elliott, had much more in mind when she named what is actually a very

intentional women’s ministry, with a store attached. 31:30 is based on the biblical proverb that describes a

woman worthy of acknowledgement. It speaks of a “productive woman” – and that is where Elliott, former director of the Broad Street Ministry Center, is an expert. For years, Elliott worked tirelessly with a host of volunteers – many from Warren – developing a number of community ministries, downtown. And she learned a great deal in the process.

“I saw in the inner city a repetitive cycle of generational poverty among women. Grandmothers, mothers and daughters seemingly unable to break out,” explains Elliott.

After leaving Broad Street and devoting more time and attention to her husband Jesse and first-born son, Abram, Jennifer and Jesse began crystallizing the concept of a ministry dedicated to helping women cultivate the job and life skills required for self-sufficiency. The clothing component was a necessity, providing both the funding for the program and clothing for women who could not afford a professional wardrobe.

Cyclical poverty doesn’t develop overnight. Neither does a ministry aimed at addressing it. But with the Shoppe and skills classes – that teach ladies everything from writing a resume to establishing Christian values in the home – Jennifer and Jesse have now completed the first two phases toward fulfillment of their multi-phase vision. In fact, recently, the first graduates of the skills classes, held at Warren, were rewarded with a complete ensemble of work clothes for interviewing and joining the workforce.

Next-phase plans include the establishment of a men’s job and life skills component, hiring a full time director and finding a satellite location. And as always, the on-going work and future development of the ministry depend on involvement from volunteers. You can become involved in three ways. Donate your time and efforts at Shoppe 31:30 or as a skills instructor. Contribute women’s clothing and accessories to support the store that provides resources. And finally, participate financially through tax-deductible gifts.

Women gain more than what’s on the rack at Shoppe 31:30

Homeless men find sanctuary, course-correction at ARM

or nearly 50 years, the Augusta Rescue Mission (ARM) has worked to break the cycle of homelessness for men, by creating a safe and healing environ-ment in downtown Augusta.

ARM provides family emergency assistance, holiday meals for the homeless, emergency shelter and public chapel services but its primary focus is on men.

Through ARM’s Resident Worker Program, men engage in a year-long process involving rigorous discipleship, chapel services, work details, obtaining employment and transitioning to responsible residence in the community. Men off the street are provided with hot meals, showers, clothing, safe accommodations and chapel services, each day of the year – all free of charge.

Volunteers – particularly groups - can prepare or serve meals and/or host a chapel service. Skilled labor from volunteers and donations – from men’s clothing and toiletries to food and furnishings – are needed. For more information contact Rusty Marsh526 Walker Street | [email protected] | augustarescuemission.org

Homeless women and their children find hope and new beginnings

s the number of homeless women with children grows Julie’s House pro-vides shelter and basic necessities, helps unemployed women find work, offers advocacy and mentoring to women in crisis, and provides educa-

tion and awareness about domestic violence. Support comes from individuals, churches, businesses and civic

organizations. Proceeds from the Making Ends Meet Bargain Center help defray operating costs and provide for families in need. All merchandise - clothing and household items - are donated. Making Ends Meet is located at 3850 Washington Road, in the La Petite Plaza behind Bojangles. Volunteers can help in a variety of ways such as working at the bargain center, helping with clerical duties at the safe home, tutoring the children there, leading Bible study for moms, and doing yardwork. For more information contact Pat Bourke706.836.2781 | [email protected] | www.julies-house.org

Center offers healing for hurting women, support for pregnant and new mothers

hose who serve at the Augusta Care Pregnancy Center (ACPC) view every person, from the unborn to the aged, as uniquely created in the image of God and they provide services to women who may be facing a variety of

challenges – from unexpected pregnancy to physical, emotional or mental abuse – even post-abortion stress syndrome.

ACPC offers a caring support group for pregnant and new mothers called The Nurturing Place. Its purpose is to give mothers the opportunity to become familiar with the development of their babies, labor and delivery, and care for newborns. Women are offered free, accurate pregnancy testing. Sonograms are also offered for women in crisis pregnancy situations.

The Center teaches abstinence and strives to instill the importance of sexual purity, as well as forgiveness. A 24-hour helpline – 706.724.3733 – is available. Volunteers are needed to work at the center making mommie bags, helping with counseling (with training) and serving as a mentor. For more information contact Susan Swanson1298 ½ Broad Street | [email protected] | www.augustacpc.org

Medical, Dental practitioners find ministry opportunity and support through CMDA

hristian Medical and Dental Associations (CMDA) help medical and dental professionals integrate the gospel into their respective practices – and use their skills as a bridge to sharing their faith, even around the world.

CMDA provides medical and dental personnel a way to connect with:• global health outreach via short-term mission trips• medical education information – teaching opportunities• healthcare to the poor – training and technical assistance to new and struggling

health centers Warren supports CMDA, locally, in a variety of ways, including an informational

banquet, promoting mission trips and hosting Bible studies for wives of medical and dental students. For more information contact Andy Sanders706.951.3612 | [email protected] | www.cmda.org

Uninsured find hope throughthis health service ministry

hrist Community Health Services Augusta (CCHSA) is an independent, Christian non-profit health center, demonstrating the love of Christ by providing affordable, quality primary health care to the underserved and the

uninsured of Augusta. More than 75 percent of CCHSA patients have no health insurance. Patients

with no insurance are charged on a sliding fee scale based on household size and income. CCHSA offers compassionate, personalized, primary health care for adults and children, as well as inpatient and outpatient services.

Currently, volunteers are needed in the refurbishing of the newest facility at the Old Widows home on Greene Street, as well as helping with clerical duties at the Health Center. For more information contact Ron Skenes1226 D’Antignac Street | [email protected] | www.christcommunityaugusta.org

Dental clinic expands outreach at Broad Street Ministry center

ental practitioners and other volunteers at Hope Dental Clinic, downtown, share the love of Christ by providing quality dental care to uninsured adults. And while the clinic needs dentists, dental assistants and hygienists, there

are other volunteer needs beyond patient care. Hope is an outreach of Broad Street Ministry Center (BSMC) which impacts

downtown communities through many avenues, including: a food pantry, coat and blanket distribution, Thanksgiving/Christmas meals, Vacation Bible Schools, donated school supplies, women’s job/life skills classes and adult literacy. Most who receive help, also hear the gospel presented in a clear and loving manner. BSMC is a mission of the Augusta Association of Baptist Churches. Volunteer dental practitioners and hygienists are needed on a rotating basis. For more information contact Cathy Gilbert20 Broad Street | [email protected] | www.bsmcaugusta.org

Kids studying the Bible in a neighborhood school? This ministry is providing the way to make it happen locally

olunteers are teaching God’s Word to elementary school students in our public schools for an hour each day through a one-of-a-kind program here in

Augusta. The Released Time Program is impacting several Richmond County schools.

It is estimated that there are over 1,000 Released Time Programs in operation nationwide, involving over 250,000 students from kindergarten through high school. New teachers attend orientation, reviewing curriculum and acquiring teaching methods. Volunteers typically start as teaching assistants to get comfortable with the process.

“Some of these children have never heard teaching from the Bible,” says Robin Hall, one of Released Time’s volunteers and a member of Warren.

Individuals are needed who can commit to just two hours a week, according to Hall. Additional classes could be started if more volunteers would participate. Formal biblical training is not necessary. For more information contact Laura Garner706.414.4389 | [email protected] | www.clcaugusta.org

Connecting believers with international guests creates an opportunity for Christ-like compassion

he International Link seeks to combat the loneliness and isolation that inter-national residents in our community often experience.

“Our ministry serves individuals and families from dozens of countries who come to the CSRA for study, research or military training,” says Stephen Story, Executive Director of The International Link.

Story says internationals have many physical and even basic needs, such as furniture for their apartments. They have relational needs as well, having few, if any, friends in Augusta. Our international guests often come from parts of the world with little or no experience with Christians or exposure to the gospel.

“We need individuals, couples and families who will befriend a student or family during their time in Augusta. We need people to attend our public events for the purpose of engaging internationals in conversation.”For more information contact Stephen Story803.292.5465 | [email protected] | www.theinternationallink.com

Aiding Homeless and Hurting Families -Interfaith Hospitality Network links churches to respond to the need

he Interfaith Hospitality Network of Augusta (IHNA) organizes local churches to provide shelter, meals and comprehensive support services for homeless families.

IHNA accepts homeless families with children and single parent families with children into a 24-hour program that includes, help finding employment, daily meals, day care for children, transportation, parenting/life skills classes and transitional housing. Volunteers are needed to help with transportation and working at the day shelter. Warren currently serves as a host church, four times a year. Volunteers for the Warren family ministry are needed with setup/breakdown of rooms, meal preparation, and overnight coverage. Great opportunity for small groups. Mission trip to… Georgia It may be just the summer ministry opportunity you were looking for!

hole communities of people groups are emerging in towns across the country and here in Georgia as well,

affording tremendous opportunity for many of us to reach out to those possessing a language and culture

different from our own. Enter Conyers, Georgia – where hundreds of Hispanics make up the

largest community of that people group in the Atlanta area and where our church has enjoyed a fruitful ministry partnership for years.

And plans for this year are no different. “We conduct a five-day Vacation Bible School in the Lakeview

Mobile Home Park. This supports the on-going work of the Lakeview Mission Church and lets us see a number of people make decisions each year. Last summer there were seven,” explains Dave Dillard, Warren’s Pastoral Care and Senior Adults pastor, and past leader for

many Conyers teams. The Conyers trip has been attractive beyond the obvious

fact that it is close to home. It has afforded the opportunity for entire families – like the Dillards – to engage in a week of selfless compassion, hard work and sense of reward together, as a family – a vacation with a purpose, so to speak.

This year’s trip is currently slated for late June.

For more information on how you can support, or participate in, the Conyers mission trip, contact Dave Dillard at 706.922.7081 or [email protected].

Women’s Ministry employs royal approach to sharing the love of Christ

aking neighbor-hood women feel like royals was at the heart of Queen for a Day, a local outreach led by the Women of War-

ren (WOW) Ministry. Over 40 women from Warren encouraged, pampered and loved on ladies in one of our downtown com-munities, February 5. WOW partnered with Crawford Avenue Baptist Church, providing the event for women and children. The day included sessions on pampering, meal-planning-on-a-budget, and how to study God’s Word. Participants also enjoyed a deliciously-prepared hot lunch, praise and worship, and an inspirational message from Warren’s Susan Martin. For more information about this or any women’s ministry events, contact Linda Yorio at 706.922.7026 or [email protected].

Serving the servants who will go to the ends of the earth

ur church helps international mis-sionaries each year, by providing volunteer labor at the missionary

learning center at International Mission Board headquarters, in Richmond, Virginia.

In January, a group from Warren served as the Hospitality Team for new missionaries preparing for work around the world. The men on the Warren team helped missionaries move in all their possessions, while the ladies registered them. The team also did laundry, completed administrative work, conducted warehouse inventory and prayer-walked. For more information on how you can support, or participate in, future Richmond trips, contact Dave Dillard at 706.922.7081 or [email protected].

North RapidA Bethlehem just waiting for the good news that the Savior has come

estled within Rapid City, South Dakota is a commu-nity in which we’ll be ministering this summer.

North Rapid is home to blue collar, lower income whites, mini casinos on every corner and a significant population of Native Americans

– the Lakota Sioux – who have migrated from the Pine Ridge Reservation lying in the Badlands to the east. Pine Ridge is deemed one of the poorest counties in the United States with such extreme conditions that the average life expectancy for a man is 48; for women, 52…yes, here, in the US.

Evangelical witness in North Rapid – let alone the Dakotas and northern plains – is present but ripe for support from those like us – “bigger brother” congregations with the equipping, resources and passion to frankly, invest in the lives of those who need more than merely “decent jobs.”

They need the hope of the resurrection. The young, bi-vocational pastor at the church we’ll be

partnering with derives his best strategic support from two area missionaries – and when we say area we’re talking two states or large portions of an entire state.

We – no, you – can be part of the large story that is unfolding in North Rapid; not only in the lives of those young families there but beyond – unto a “people group” within the continental US, whose current condition would be the kind of situation though which the Lord would love to prove Himself strong.

What we will be doing Early planning – from our hosts who are on the field, 24-7 – have resulted in at least four activities that will be helpful and critical to the work in North Rapid:

• Teams that will survey needs and interest in the neighborhood

• Personal evangelism• Prayer walking• Community event requiring musical talentShared Vision We will train and pray for our trip, as a

team, long before heading out. Our joint vision– is that this trip will be the catalyst for a partnership that will be prized for years beyond this ground-breaking investment of ministry.

Work in South Africa continues to make a difference

y now, most are familiar with the fact that HIV/AIDS is creating a huge need to help orphans in South Africa, who otherwise would have little hope. Combining healthy partnership with South African pastors, teams of volunteers and financial resources, Warren has

labored in love to provide hope, for the better part of a decade. In 2010, three mission teams from Warren “tag teamed”

to construct orphan homes – homes that can accommodate a trained, resident, care giver and six orphans. Rather than the large institutional orphanages with which most of us would identify, Home from Home, a South African ministry, has discovered that the best-so-far method for rearing orphans is to create small “orphan family” units, and then to place them in a home that fosters their culture, set in a normal neighborhood, filled with normal playmates, providing, in essence, a normal Xhosa childhood – minus hopelessness. This way, the orphans can have as near-to-normal a family life, as possible. And with the availability of new antiviral medicines, even AIDS orphans can grow up to live a reasonably full and productive life – much like anyone with manageable diabetes in the US.

This spring, two orphan homes that our teams have built, will be dedicated – and most importantly – occupied by a Home from Home orphan family – a culmination reflecting “pure and undefiled religion.”

The resources required to build more homes – to provide care givers and sustain the families thriving inside – are not staggering by US standards, and doable. As Warren efforts have been to date, growing this ministry will require a combination

of on-going financial support and available volunteers, continuing to give and go.

The need is great. But as South African Pastor ‘Hoppy’ Pohlmann illustrated for us one Sunday morning last year: it may look like the number of starfish drying to death on the beach is insurmountable. But hope rises even as just one, then another, is cast back into the sea.

For information on how you can support South African orphan families or participate in fall 2011 South Africa mission trips, contact Kevin Pike, 706.627.8087 or contact the Missions Office, 706.922.7038 or [email protected].

hecking on care points – where hundreds of Swazi orphans come to be fed, loved on and discipled – is at the heart of the mission of two teams heading to Swaziland. Warrenites who have personally

sponsored Swazi orphans will ei-ther meet their child(ren) in person or be able to receive a first-hand account of their child’s progress via the work of these two teams, May 27 – June 8 and June 6 – 17, respectively. Other projects will engage the team’s investment of time, in addition to saying to each orphan – in essence – “Someone, even thousands of miles away, loves you, in Jesus’ name.”

How can you support this on-going work, which has now become a true, mission-partnership?• Pray for Team members as they continue to raise financial sup-port. Pray for their safety, their families while away, and effec-tiveness in compassionate ministry to the “least of these.”• Sponsor a child. Compelled to respond -Haiti provided a window into the grace and compassion of Christ

s they pulled away from Warren’s Atrium that late-March day, Terry Mullenix, Dr. Wendell Duncan and a team of medical practitioners couldn’t even begin to imagine what the real-life conditions would be like follow-ing the massive earthquake that took the lives of

hundreds of thousands of Haitians. And despite imagined uncertainties, as well as real ones –

like war-zonesque border guards detaining travelers– the team partnered with a vibrant community of believers and treated over 1,700 patients in a church-balcony-turned-clinic in Port- au-Prince.

As early as January 12, the day of the earthquake, Mullenix and Duncan – both veteran leaders of many medical mission trips – were already set to lead a medical team to engage in its perennial ministry in Ecuador.

But Haiti changed everything. Missions and Mobilization pastor, Roger

Henderson, discussed the possibility of deploying the medical team bound for Ecuador, to Haiti instead, with Mullenix and Duncan.

“It became pretty apparent what we needed to do,” says Henderson.

Each team member had to seriously count the cost in a new light. But upon returning they reported – seemingly each one – how the faith of the Haitian believers was one of the hugest and most inspiring take-aways from their time of ministry together.

Ecuador

Medical practitioners team up to open doors to unreached people groups

s many as 1,200 villagers in Ecuador receive loving treatment and ministry during an ener-

gized week of clinical outreach by Warren’s medical team.

“The clinics pave the way for missionaries to return to a community with a Bible study, children’s ministry or other approach, in the hope of starting a church plant,” explains Terry Mullenix, a Warren member who has served as team leader for a number of years.

Mullenix says that the team typically holds clinics Monday through Thursday and has been targeting an area in northern Ecuador, near the border with Columbia. In 2010, the team was diverted to Haiti, in the wake of the devastating earthquake that rocked that island nation.

The Ecuador Medical Mission team is constantly looking for physicians, nurses, dentists and pharmacists to serve together.

Youth return to Central America to share the gospel

hether the third time really is “a charm,” no one knows for sure. And

there is no telling what adventure lies before the youth mission team as it

heads back to Panama for a third, consecutive year.

But one thing is clear. The gospel will be presented from the city to the mountain tops once the team arrives.

By way of drama, our youth will present the message of the cross in an urban center and then head to the mountains to share. The captivating presentation, clearly illustrates the struggle with sin and the sacrifice of Christ on our behalf.

Romania

Capitalizing on visionary resourcefulness of others Warren team begins fresh work in Eastern Europe

ental care for those too poor to afford it will be at the heart of Warren’s first team trip to Braila, Romania during the spring break in Augusta.

Children’s ministry will be a component of this trip, as well as evangelism – in both the dental clinic

lobby and on the streets. Dental practitioners will be seeing those in need in a state-of-

the-art facility, provided through the gifts of believers here in the US. The five-story building “triples” as a dental clinic, medical clinic and housing facility for mission teams.

“This is one of those occasions where we hope to establish a long-term opportunity for those – particularly with specialized skills – to take advantage of the facilities in Braila as a bridge to the Romanian people in sharing the gospel,” noted Roger Henderson, Missions and Mobilization pastor at Warren. “Adding the recent change of conditions in the Ukraine, we must take advantage of every opportunity, while we can, in the former closed countries of Eastern Europe.”For information about how you can support, or participate in, theupcoming Romania trip, contact Roger Henderson at 706.922.7038 or email [email protected]

Ukraine

A sense of urgencySense of urgency should compel those called where doors were once closed…in places like the Ukraine

ince focusing on the “dark” villages, where Jesus is not pro-claimed and drug and alcohol abuse abound, we saw some encouraging work of the Holy Spirit. And while our window of opportunity is narrowing, we’re all the more motivated to share the gospel in those places while we can,” explains

Jim Sechrist, team leader for Warren’s past Ukraine mission trips. “The government is now prohibiting the conducting of Bible clubs

and things of that nature in public school facilities – where, just two years ago, this was permissible,” Sechrist adds.

Through Warren’s alliance with local ministry partners, work has been established in a number of places – unimaginable, in the years of Communist oppression.

Warren’s 2011 team, headed by Sechrist, still aims to share the gospel with children – the Ukraine’s future generation - late this spring or early this summer – and take advantage of the window of opportunity that still exits. Strategy will simply require more creativity.

“We’ve found that not only do the children respond to the gospel, but their parents do, as well,” says Sechrist. “Many parents would sit and listen while their children attended Bible clubs during the 2009 trip, which encompassed rural areas outside Odessa.”

New Visioning TripsZimbabwe and Central AsiaVisioning Trips pave the way for ministry with unreached peoples

idden from the rest of the world behind the Iron Curtain for years, the peoples of Central Asia – while re-appearing on the world’s stage – remain some of the least evangelized peoples in the world.

This fall, key personnel from Warren will head to one of the nations there, hoping to establish a partnership with local missionaries who are finding – of all things – the rising popularity of American football as a bridge to reaching people for Christ. By hosting sports camps and forming sports leagues, missionaries are finding a practical way to form relationships that lead to sharing the Gospel.

Also this fall, a visioning trip is planned to Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe – a country that has been deemed by the United Nations as the most troubled nation in the world. Zimbabwe has been plagued in recent years by cholera and a failed economy.

In Harare, the potential for a trip focusing on construction and repair in a Baptist hospital will be what personnel from Warren will be checking out. In this troubled country, medicine will open the door to share spiritual healing through the gospel.

Both of these visioning trips were conceptualized as a result of dialogue with missionaries visiting Augusta for the Global Medical Missions Summit hosted by our church, just last summer. Missionaries from around the world, were given the opportunity to share their ministry with church membership, for potential future partnerships. For information about how you can support, or par-ticipate in, the future trips to either of these destina-tions, please contact the Missions Ministry office at 706.922.7038 or email [email protected].

Reaching Hands Adoption Ministry seeks to help families experience the miracle of adoption

n 2009, the Southern Baptist Convention formally recognized the need for greater emphasis on orphan care within the church. As part of a resolution, Con-vention members called “on each Southern Baptist family to pray for guidance as to whether God is call-

ing them to adopt or foster a child or children.” Quite a challenge when the adoption process can

seem almost insurmountable. Just the idea of mountains of paperwork, endless waiting, and fees in the tens of thousands can be daunting.

“But we serve a God who delights in overcoming all of these challenges for us – a God who established adoption as the way in which believers become His children, through Christ,” explains Leslie Bullington, adoptive mom and co-director of Reaching Hands Adoption Ministry.

“Christians who want to adopt or support adoption can rest assured that He is willing and able to meet every need,” says Bullington. “While working with Reaching Hands the past two years, I’ve seen this ministry be part of God’s provision for many families who were considering or completing the adoption process.”

The work of Reaching Hands comes at a time when Christians are becoming more and more aware of the world’s orphan crisis and of the important responsibility the Church has in caring for these children.

“We are hoping that as more families of all denominations hear this challenge and begin seeking God’s will, they will reach out and provide children with the love, support, and Godly teaching they need,” adds Bullington.

Reaching Hands hosts seminars that provide valuable information, social networking and financial aid for families just beginning to explore adoption and/or foster care. “Over the last two years, we have awarded thirteen grants to families who have adopted

fifteen children from the US, China, Ethiopia, and Russia,” says Bullington.

Grant applications are available in the Warren Missions office. Anyone who attends a Bible-believing church in the CSRA, has a state-approved home study, and is in need of funds to help cover adoption costs, is eligible to apply, according to Bullington.

“As an adoptive mother, it moves me tremendously to think of the love of God poured out through Christians who have faithfully supported our family through our adoptions.”

Leslie’s husband David joins her as co-director of Reaching Hands. Their family includes their daughter, Faith, their son Davis – from Ethiopia – and a daughter from China, who will be coming home sometime this spring.

Child-sponsorship offers hope in AIDS-ravished nation

s a result of the AIDS epidemic, nearly a third of the population has died in Swaziland, which lies in southernmost Africa. Thousands of children are left to care for themselves, or even care for their siblings if both parents have died. Out of compassion

for these of children, Warren has a child-sponsorship ministry, through the Children’s HopeChest organization, to help meet their physical and spiritual needs.

And there is still room for more individuals to get involved.

“As of last year, 217 children were yet to be sponsored. We now have 80 children who are waiting for sponsorship and it’s our goal to help every one of them,” says church member, Robin Hall. Hall, who will lead two teams of volunteers to Warren-sponsored care points in Swaziland this summer, is the local sponsorship coordinator, working in conjunction with the Children’s Hope Chest ministry.

For a dollar a day, your support goes to help feed and disciple the children, who cannot even attend school, due to the inability to buy uniforms and shoes.

Outreach, practical and personal – Sustaining the less-fortunate,

going beyond bags of foodhe dozens of people receiving supplemental groceries through Warren’s Food Pantry Ministry, also have other needs - creating an excellent opportunity, each week, to reach out to those not connected to the church.

“The intention is to not only provide food, but also offer additional help to those who are struggling – like assisting the jobless with resume preparation and others with budgeting,” says Robin Allen, Missions Ministry Assistant, here at Warren. “And the exciting thing is that the help comes from our church body.”

“Many in our community need rent and utility assistance. We refer them to local agencies that can provide needed funds. We help the homeless find clothing and toiletries. Our Benevolence Ministry has a resource list to help people find the right agency or ministry for help.”

“It is a wonderful blessing to see our church body rally to support those in need by adopting the church’s food pantry as a project. Many small groups contribute canned goods or support financially,” Allen says. The food pantry is open Tuesday and Thursdays from 9:00AM – Noon and 1:00PM – 4:00PM and is located in the “A” (Chapel) Building.

Allen says that there is a spirit of teamwork out in the community, when it comes to helping those in need. For example, ministries such as the Making Ends Meet Bargain Center (part of Julie’s House, which supports homeless women and their children) will provide free clothing to those who have been referred by the church.

Every shoe box ... a Gospel Opportunity

uring several weeks in the fall, people just like you fill shoe boxes with simple gifts—each one for a precious girl or boy. Samaritan’s Purse will collect millions of these boxes and ship them to children in over 100 countries around the globe. And at Warren – where the church serves as a collection

center for thousands of boxes that are donated each year – Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a simple way to share Christ with others, everywhere.

“When you realize that a gospel tract is put into each shoe box, it’s really about getting out the gospel around the world,” says Red McConnell, who has been involved in OCC here for four years now.

“Along with their shoe box gifts, children are given colorful storybooks that present God’s plan of salvation in their local language.”

Partnering churches in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America are provided with a 12-part Bible study to teach children about the Gospel, invite them to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, and train them to share their faith with family and friends.

Warren small groups typically engage in “shoebox parties,” where decorated shoeboxes are filled with recommended gift items for boys and girls, respectively. Volunteers from Warren also work – some, year round – to prepare shoeboxes for filling and shipping.

For more information on how you can support, or participate in OCC, through Warren, contact Wayne Jenkins at 706.627.1994 or [email protected]. You can also check out the Samaritan’s Purse website – www.samaritanspurse.org.

Share the Light -Community outreach provides creative way to share the gospel through gifts to children in need

s Operation Christmas Child is busy sending wrapped shoe boxes with the gospel to needy children around the world, Warren Baptist Church is busy gathering gifts for needy children at

home. “This is massive gift-giving, but with a greater purpose

than just providing toys,” explains Robin Allen, Missions Ministry Assistant. “The gift purchased for a needy boy or girl sends a message to these children that someone cares for them. In one way, it’s our church saying, “We care.”

Children are registered by local social agencies. Family incomes and needs are qualified through a computerized clearing house. For the majority of kids, their “Share the Light” gift will be their only gift.

During the weeks before Thanksgiving, Christmas trees are displayed around the church bearing tags that reveal a child’s name, age, gender and the child’s gift wish. Along with the tag, is a gospel tract to share the Christmas story, as well as, the gospel.

On the first Sunday of December, during the evening service, a grand celebration is held and gifts for the children are placed on the stage. Volunteers sort gifts by participating agencies. The agencies pick up the gifts later for distribution to families.

“Beautiful, organized, chaos is a good description of the “Share the Light” celebration,” says Allen. “There is such joy and excitement, as the entire church participates in placing the gifts on stage.”

Last year, Warren donated gifts to over 500 children, including a multitude of bicycles. Five participating agencies were able to make Christmas a joyful time for many children with limited family incomes. For more information as to how you can participate or prepare trees for display, call the Missions Office at 706.922.7038 or email [email protected].

These Angels are adding new meaning to the term, “Motorcycle Gang”

hen some see a group of bikers rumbling down the road, they stereo-

typically assume the worst. But, not so with F.A.I.T.H. Riders. This band

of bikers-for-Christ consists of ordinary people from every walk of life, who share a common desire to serve our Lord and others through motorcycle ministry.

The chosen name for these road warriors hales from an acrostic that serves as a memory device for a clear, no-nonsense presentation of the gospel, as follows:

F is for Forgiveness. We cannot have eternal life and heaven without God’s forgiveness.

A is for Available.Forgiveness is available for all, but it is not automatic.

I is for Impossible. It is impossible for God to allow sin into heaven. It is also impossible to please God through our own actions.

T is for Turn.Turn means to repent from sin and self to Christ only.

H is for Heaven.Heaven is eternal life, here and now and in the hereafter - but only through Christ. Forsaking all, I trust Him!

Through this ministry, in which a bike is actually not required for membership, these bikers are learning about Christ and sharing Him with others – hoping to especially reach those who share their passion for biking but would not normally set foot in a church building. Through local, regional and national rallies, street evangelism, rescue mission ministry and other opportunities, F.A.I.T.H. Riders seek to add rubber, as well as shoe leather, to the gospel.

For more information about this very mobile ministry, contact Billy Hickey at 706.595.9744 or email [email protected].

“No strings” Single Mom’s Oil ChangeBirthed out of practical compassion – continues to bless both moms and volunteers alike

uppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” James 2:15-17

With that in mind, a group of Warren single adults got together years ago and decided to create a tangible way to meet a very practical need of “sisters” who often struggled significantly just to make ends meet.

These sisters are single mom’sWhat has emerged over the years since, is a dedicated ministry

involving people –skilled and unskilled- coming together four times a year, to help single moms with a practical, but essential need – changing their car’s oil. And, at absolutely no expense.

Most commercial garages charge anywhere from 20-50 dollars for a typical oil change. What can seem like a relatively small expense to most, can mean having enough groceries or gas in the tank for single moms whose incomes hover at or below the poverty line, in some cases.

At a typical Single Mom’s Oil Change (SMOC) here at Warren, besides getting their car’s oil changed, moms and their children enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast while they wait. At each SMOC, host volunteers warmly accommodate moms and their children, in comfortable facilities. Other volunteers turn wrenches, drain oil, check for worn belts and tires. Still others run cars on and off ramps, safely and courteously, dispose of old oil, run parts, record vital info and put ice in cold cups. All this…For the sisters. If you are interested in learning about how you can support, or partici-pate in SMOC, contact the Missions Ministry office at 706.922.7038 or email [email protected].

Warren goes high energy, reaching kids and their families via sports

pward Sports is an exciting and fun way War-ren is using to support kids and their families - and even reach them for Christ. And Upward at Warren means basketball, cheerleading, soccer, flag football, baseball, softball and tee-ball – a full

program, all year long.Upward is a ministry specifically designed for 5 to 13 year

old boys and girls that promotes self-esteem, character and faith in Christ. Children who play sports and have a positive experience, are more likely to stay with the sport as a life skill, and are also more likely to learn about values, teamwork and skill development in a way that will benefit them throughout life. There are many volunteer roles available through Upward – from coaches to devotional sharers, umpires to snack providers. If you are interested in learning about how you can support,

or participate in, Upward Sports, contact Drew Robinson at the Family Life Center, 706.860.0454, or [email protected].
