1) ASK- Can you design and create a musical instrument out of recycled material? Can you play your instrument and test it out to make the sounds (pitch) higher and lower?

2) IMAGINE- LISTEN AND LEARN... Earth Day- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yl3zgcL0Tv8 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OasbYWF4_S8 How to Make DIY Musical Instruments for Kids-https://www.youtube.com/watch?

3) PLAN- What supplies can you use, or will you need?

Page 2: Warren Consolidated Schoolsschool.wcskids.net/.../repository/4_20_20_Allied_Arts_Ho…  · Web viewShel Silverstein was born in 1930 in Chicago. He began writing and drawing at a

Check your recycle bin and see what you can use to create with (example: cans, paper towel

tubes, toilet paper rolls, etc). Reuse any materials that you have at home and gather supplies (rubber bands, rice,

tape, balloons, markers, crayons, etc.) to make an instrument.

Use natural materials such as seeds, stones or sticks along with recycled materials.

4) CREATE & TEST-Have fun building! Play your instrument to test out how well it works. Does your instrument have a high or low pitch?

5) IMPROVE-What can you do to make your instrument even better? Can you decorate it? Do you need to add more materials to it? Is it staying together, or should you add more support like tape or staples to it?

6) COMMUNICATE/SHARE- Play your instrument for your family at home, or friends, classmates and family online.

Take pictures or videos of the process and/or of your finished project. Email your pictures and/or video clips to me at [email protected].

I look forward to seeing (and hearing) your instruments! I’ll make a collage of instruments and post them on Bloomz for others to see.
