Thursday 3rd September, 2015
CYBER SAFETY We do lots of cybersafety work with our students, particularly in the Senior School, when social media starts to become a regular was of communicating. It is very important to talk to your children about what they are doing, the social media they are using, the security and privacy settings and more. A good question for users of Face-book, Instagram etc is “Do you know all the people who are your contacts or ‘friends’?” If not, why do they have them? We have recently found that PicCollage has added a social media component. PicCollage is a really useful app that allows you to create great photo presentations. Check out our Facebook page – the Father’s Day stall pic-ture was created by PA’s Jenny Brown with a little (?) assistance from her Middle School daughter. If your child uses PicCollage they may also have an account and followers!! While this is a creative/ photo sharing account, all children should have the settings in that account (and all accounts) on PRIVATE. Communication is the key – have open conversations with your children about what they are doing online! SPRING FAIR Don’t forget to use our new online roster system for registering your time and support at each class stall! You have a notice, it was emailed, it is on our website – impossible to miss!! THANK YOU The mystery takeover of MY front page last week made Sue and I very proud. We greatly appreciated the kind words of Brenton and Kellie on the occasion of Principal’s Day. And then on Monday we were again surprised and delighted to be presented with student art work, some fine poetry and a great deal of affection from all our students! LEAVE I will be on long service leave for the last 2 weeks of this term. My wife and I are escaping the cold for a few weeks in Vietnam and beyond. I am confidently leaving our wonderful school in the capable hands of Sue Dean during this time. Rod Neal will be absent during the same time – he is going in a completely different direction – Oman!

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL REPORT Personal Thanks Thank you to all students for making me feel special by presenting my art piece at assembly. A Principal or As-sistant Principal job is challenging but rewarding. I love my role and I am lucky to be at Warranwood. Thanks again. Bring wheelbarrow and tools to clear the present garden located in the courtyard beside the art room and Mia’s room. The building aspect of the project is to raise the sleeper wall to contain the mushroom mulch and improve the soil for the planting of an orchard and vegetables. There is also a Japanese garden planned for a corner nearest to the art room.

Reflections of Camp Jungai The thing I liked most about Camp Jungai was the picto rally. This is where you get a mini picture of an area and there’s a letter hidden somewhere near where the picture was taken. There’s a number on the back of the card and you put the letter you found under the number. We did it in pairs of 2. The way the photo was shown made it a really big mystery. I found all the letters that were hidden but I could not unscramble the letters to make a word. So that is what I liked best about Camp Jungai. By Zac P 34AT
My favourite thing I did at Camp Jungai was definitely throwing/making boomerangs. It was amazing learning about boomerangs and throwing them. After three days I finally got to throw my boomerang with my dad on Sunday at school. I also loved their food. My favourite food was for dessert chocolate mousse, for dinner the penne pasta, for lunch the soup and garlic bread, and for breakfastit was definitely the pancakes! Those were my favourite foods at Camp Jungai. By Liam C 34AT

SPORTS NEWS Our team of 70 students competed in the District Athletics Sports last Tuesday. Nine other schools took part in a friendly atmosphere being matched by the perfect weather. We had many tremendous results and we proudly won the field section trophy (high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put and discus), finished third in the track events (running and hurdles), equal fourth in the ball games and a very creditable second overall. While each student’s efforts are appreciated and recognised I have listed below those who finished first in their individual or relay events and therefore earn the right to compete in the Division sports. Athletic day firsts. Ben S. Triple jump, 100m. Jacob B. High jump, 200m. Teagan H. 100m, triple jump. James H. Triple jump. Cameron A. Shot put. Jake S. Long jump. Jeremy B. Discus, shot put. Rhys H. 100m, 200m. Jessica S. High jump. Cooper deP. 100m, shot put. Olivia J. 200m. 11G 4 x 100m relay. Teagan H, Kenna K, Jessica S & Olivia J. 12B 4 x 100m relay. Ben S, Jacob B, Toby B & Jake S. Sophie S. 2nd in 1500m & 800m, also advances to Division. Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who supported the students and especially Kristy, Jen, Deb, Sue and Rachael who helped run events or helped teachers with their responsibilities. National Cross Country. Cooper had an extremely busy 4 days at the National Cross Country Championship representing Victoria. He ran a PB in his individual 2km event and was selected to run in a relay event on Monday. This team came sec-ond and each runner, including Cooper received a silver medal. Besides the running there was a tour of the MCG and chances to mix with other athletes from across Australia.

News from the Health Centre
A Question of Health - Hayfever Season It is just about spring and the dreaded hay-fever strikes many of us. If your child suffers from seasonal hay-fever, please ensure they have their antihistamine prior to school to allow it time to work, ensuring a more com-fortable day at school . Asthma symptoms may also increase with more windy days and pollen in the air. Ensure your child uses their preventer medication correctly, and provide a spacer to use with ventolin if needed for relief of symptoms . If any increase of asthma symptoms occur, please review with your local doctor or respiratory nurse specialist for advice. If your child is required to take medication at school, we requires a written authority from your doctor (the origi-nal packet of medication with the script on it), medication form with instructions and parent signature .

JUNIOR SCHOOL WELLBEING PROGRAM
JUNIOR PROGRAM
This week was the last session on Helpful vs Unhelpful thoughts and the last session of the program. Key messages: We can’t stop our brain from having unhelpful thoughts but we can get into the habit of having them less
and less. The more positive/helpful thoughts we grow the less unhelpful thoughts we will have.
Thoughts create feelings and feelings create actions/behaviour, to change the feeling or action we have to
‘kill off’ the thought that we don’t want and the feeling and action/behaviour will die with it. The helpful
thought will stay and have a dance party in your brain!
People can think about situations in many different ways so pick the thought that gives you the nicest feel-
ing and creates the most helpful actions/behaviour.
Let go and take time out from thoughts by imaging they are clouds in the sky or leaves on a stream. “It is
just a thought….it will pass”.
ANXIETY: PARENT INFO SESSION
I am running a session for Parents on Anxiety on Thursday 10th September from 9.00 – 10.15am at Croydon Hills Primary. SPRING FAIR ROSTERS This year we are very excited to announce that the 2015 Spring Fair stall rosters will now be online, saving you and your class reps time and resources! You can select each of your children’s stall links and following the prompts on screen fill in your choice of time selections! Rosters will be open online until Friday 9
th October, which will allow your class reps time to get the rosters sorted and print-
ed and up on your class window. As a thank you, when you finish your shift, sign the roster near your name and you will go in the Hamper Raffle to be drawn at assembly on Monday 19
th October.
It will be a fabulous day but please remember, we need your help - by sharing the load, everyone can enjoy the day. These are all the online roster links for our Spring Fair stall. Please navigate your way through the prompts (after clicking on your link) to select your times. Remember, first in, gets first time choice!
When you get to the signupgenius page for your child’s stall, you will see various time slots and numbers in brackets. This means we need, for example, 5 people from 10.00am – 11.30am. Please choose a slot, clicking the Sign Up box, and press Submit and Sign Up. From then, fill in your child’s name, and your own contact details. You’ll need to provide your name, email address, and mobile number. Then select “Sign Up Now” bottom left of screen. This will confirm that you have selected your time slot. You are still able to change this if needed. Your information will remain private. The details you enter will be used only by the school appointed delegates for the purposes of filling the roster and will not be passed on to any other companies. You will get a reminder from the system a day or two before the event – you can swap with other people on the same stall if you need to. You can view the roster to check your spot, you can also add it to your Facebook page as a reminder or calendar, etc. To continue on with booking a time slot for another of your children’s stalls, select the relevant roster for your child’s stall. If you have any trouble with the online rostering system, please contact your class reps, Jo Hales ([email protected]) or Brigid Campbell in the of-fice. If you do not have access to online rostering, please see your class rep and they will add your time requests to the roster.
