WATERWALL ITEMS Now that the weather is warming up we want to encourage some water play in the Junior yard by creating a ‘water wall’, such as those pictured here. We would appreci-ate it if anyone has any old offcuts of poly pipes, flexible piping or funnels that they would be happy to donate to the school.

Please send them in with your child or leave them at the office.

Thanks Sandra and Anne

Asthma Foundation Spring News

A beautiful garden can really help make a house a

home, especially during spring. However, gardens

can harbour some allergens that may be trigger-

ing asthma and allergy symptoms. Problem areas

in a garden can include: pollen, organic mulch,

venom from stinging insects, contact allergens,

weather changes, fertilisers and chemical sprays.

Plants with bright showy flowers are generally

pollinated by insects or birds and plants with

small inconspicuous flowers are generally wind

pollinated. It is the wind pollinated plants that

should be avoided. Pick plants that are sold as

‘bird attracting’. Avoid planting European trees

like Birch or ash. Choose a low pollen producing

grass that does not need frequent mowing, like

hybrid couch varieties (e.g. Santa Ana or Windsor

Green).

Most of all, don’t be afraid to get in the garden if

you love it! Contact us for a copy of our Low Aller-

gen Garden brochure and take it along to your

nursery and figure out what plants are best for

you and your garden.
