Throughout seasons and Bikers’ News you’ve undoubtedlynoticed that we’re fans of all kinds of motorsports, whetherit’s on two or on four wheels. What counts for us is the adrenaline rush, the sensationsthat come with track riding and driving, the smell of anengine being pushed to the limit, the sound of the gearsswitching, the eternal search for the ideal riding lines, allowing us to gain a few hundreds of a second, improvinglittle by little our lap times, the joy of being able to do thisin all safety.Twelve months ago we launched the DriversDays, a for-mula identical to the Bikers’ Days yet intended for cars. Our initiative has turned out to be very successful and for us– fans of beautiful mechanics – we wished to combine in onemagazine, as we do in our company, these events on track. It’s the ideal opportunity to launch a new magazine.

You can also opt fortheir bodywork made out ofvery strong carbon.

FIAT AND COMPETITION :IT’S AN ANCIENT LOVE STORY,THE ITALIAN WAY …

This passion has led the Turin company very natu-rally to supporting one of the most popular figureson the motorcycle scene: Valentino ROSSI.But the story doesn’t just end there. In order tomeet the demands and expectations of its custo-mers, Fiat Professional, the division of utility vehi-cles, presented 3 models in Imola : the DOBLO, theSCUDO and the DUCATO : 3 vans, each possessingits own typical characteristics and having its ownvocation. What these three models do have in com-mon though is their versatility, which makes themappropriate for the use a company car as well as forthe transport of motorcycles. And in order to assure optimal performances an ex-clusive system has been developed by Baggio & DeSordi, destined to transport, charge and discharge amotorcycle in all safety.

Exhibiting this system in the paddocks alone wasnot sufficient for Fiat, and so they handled the «Track Service », i.e. removing the motorcycles thatbroke down on track. Throughout the 3 dayseveryone could see for themselves the efficiencyand ease of use of this system that perfectly fits inthe three vehicles mentioned above.

WARM UP 21 / BIKERS’ SCHOOL

FOR BEGINNERSA first module is – just like before – meant for thedebutants. They can discover the trajectories oftwo different tracks (Francorchamps and Mettet)aboard their own motorcycle. Our experienced in-structors will also teach them the safety rules thathave to be respected on track, when riding in pelo-ton, etc.In short, the very first steps on track offered in asafe environment.

SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS EXPERIENCEThe second module is meant for those alreadyhaving achieved a certain level of experience (orhaving an advanced riding style) and wanting tofurther improve their knowledge of the track ofFrancorchamps. Our instructors, all former or stillactive professional riders, will teach you all thetips and tricks of this track. They’ll also reveal theirpersonal tricks to go faster without taking risks, toenchain the different turns allowing you to gain afew tenths of a second and they’ll observe whereyou go wrong, so that you can correct your mis-takes if necessary.

RACING SCHOOLAnd then there’s the Racing School, a logical stepin addition to the first two modules. This moduleis intended for the students with a proven trackexperience who want to make a pass at racing. Inthis module we not only focus on the riding itselfbut also on the technical aspects of racing, the preparation of the rider and the settings ofthe machine.Just like before, the classes ofthe Bikers’ School take place during our Bikers’Days but in order for these classes to be as effi-cient as possible, the number of students will belimited. This way each instructor can fully focus onhis group and offer an almost individual approachto each participant.

So if you want to participate, don’t hesitateany longer and surf to www.bikerschool.bewhere you’ll find all information and subscrip-tion forms.

An investment worthwhile !

Throughout the years we’ve seen many of you inour Bikers’ School. You’ve had the opportunity ofdiscovering the joys of track riding in all safety, guided by real professionals. Many among youhave already passed that first stage and are nowriding in the different groups of our Bikers’ Days.

But what’s next ?

Every champion will tell you this : you can learn

new things every day... provided you have goodteachers. For us it was only logical to complete this basiccourse with some advanced courses. In 2011 the Bikers’ School will offer three diffe-rent modules allowing you to further improveyour riding skills, even when you think you’veachieved an experienced level.

« Quite honestly I never really

believed in it. Although the Italians

are fans of motorsports, I never thought that

the 200 Miglia di Imola Revival would be

that successful. It must have taken tons of

work to organise such an event ! »

Giacomo Agostini

It made Christian Jupsin blush when

Giacomo Agostini said these words.

Even though the team of DG Sport has years ofexperience in the organisation of the Bikers’ Clas-sics in Francorchamps, it was not evident to un-dertake an event such as the 200 Miglia di ImolaRevival.

The many necessary contacts already made us as-sume that it would be a well filled programme, butwould the crowd show up ?

Well, for a first edition, the number of visitors ex-ceeded our wildest dreams. More than 10.000 peo-ple showed up at the famous track to meet themany champions from the past and to admire thebeautiful machines. Everyone was unanimous : itwas a complete success.

Christian Jupsin, the man behind it all : …

« I have to admit that this was the most stressfulevent for me up till now, says the boss of DGSport. Italy doesn’t really have such a major clas-sic event, yet it took us three years to come to anagreement with the track of Imola.

The stakes were high. We immediately had to aimfor a very high level, organise something big andimpeccable right from the start and perfectly meetthe expectations of our partners Fiat, AGV andMoto Guzzi.

The financial risk was also very important and theorganisation was much more complicated than inSpa, as the event took place in a foreign country.

Luckily we have a good team and the 15 peopleof DG Sport that were present were extremelyexperienced. So everything went smoothly.

WARM_UP_UK_21:Layout 1 7/01/11 14:38 Page 12

Page 13: Warmup January 2011 English

Was there immediately a lot of interest for thisinitiative ?We could count on the support of Doctor Costa, who saw this event as an opportunity to honour hisfather, the founder of the first editions of the 200Miglia. But as for the rest, the opinions were di-vided. Some believed in it 100%, others doubted. And I have to admit that the sceptics outnumberedthe enthusiasts !

Yet you could count on a large number of visitorsAnd for 90% Italian, which confirms that there is alarge demand.

Suddenly reactions were much milder …Yes and very positive. On the many motorcycle fo-rums there were only two groups, those who wereglad that they had been there and those who re-gretted not having been there ! The responsibles ofthe track were very satisfied and the riders whereextremely enthusiast. Even Kenny Roberts com-plimented us. « I usually don’t ride during thiskind of classic events, the American admits, but I’ve had so much fun here and I’ve have avery warm welcome ».

The kind of compliment that makes you wantto continue …Especially a proof that we were right from the verybeginning.

So there’ll be a sequel in 2011 ?We’re already working on it. We’re awaiting theconfirmations of the track and the partners. Buteveryone is very enthusiast.

Are there any changes as to this second edition ?Rather completions. A 250cc parade, becauseback in those days, there was a 100 miles race forthis category.

WARM_UP_UK_21:Layout 1 7/01/11 14:38 Page 13

Page 14: Warmup January 2011 English

All of a sudden the pressure is gone. Our hearts try to find a

normal rhythm again and the adrenaline pours out of our

veins. We embrace each other. Our eyes are filled with joy.

We jump up and down in happiness. Greg and Marc con-

gratulate each other and then welcome Raymond in triumph.

They did their part of the deal. They were great, everyone

was great.

Not one mistake, nor on track nor in the stand. A fast and

regular pace. It was a fantastic adventure.

It’s decided, next year we’ll participate at the entire

World Championship Superstock. We’ll find the budget.

And then up to the Bol d’Or and the 24 Hours of Le Mans,

and from there to Albacete, Donington and Qatar. And who

knows, maybe Suzuka in 2012. Japan is our goal. The

title a dream that now seems reachable.

And you ? Why don’t you become part

of this new adventure ?

On page… you’ll see how you can participate

and join in the celebration of our victories…

“MY DREAM : BE A WORLD CHAMPION”RAYMOND SCHOUTEN

Since the beginning Raymond

Schouten, together with Gregory

Fastre, makes part of the Bikers'

Days Endurance team adventure.

This young and sympathetic Dutch

champion, makes a review of his ca-

reer and his brilliant season of 2010.

You started your international career

on 125s and in GPs. After that you

switched to four-strokes and now

you're doing endurance races. How

did that change come about ?

1617

WARM UP 21 / RAYMOND SCHOUTEN

WARM_UP_UK_21:Layout 1 7/01/11 14:38 Page 16

Page 17: Warmup January 2011 English

Which class do you prefer ?

“Racing two-strokes is still very appeal-

ing, especially because a 250 is such a

wonderful bike to race. But I'm not

doing too bad on a 600 either. I do feel I

still lack a little bit of experience on the

1000 bike. I'm too impulsive and in the

past small mistakes sometimes ended

in tears. A bigger bike like the 1000 will

punish you for every mistake you make.

I feel I have to get physically stronger

too, but I'm getting there.”

What was your best moment of 2010 ?

“I really had a super season. I clinched

the Dutch Supersport championship

title, I won an IDM race at Assen, I fin-

ished third at the European Supersport

race and of course I won the Bol D'Or

with the Bikers' Days Team. That must

be the highlight of the season for me.

The team was good, the riders were fast

and the means to do well were avail-

able.

But a race like that does go on for 24

hours! And a lot can happen in a day.

But everything went perfect. At the end

of the night we were second or third in

our class and the leading Italian team

did some weird things. When they

crashed, we took over the lead. We

might not have been the fastest team,

but being constant and having a bike

that performs perfectly is more impor-

tant in endurance racing. And that all

worked for us.”

What goes on in your head when you

start the last stint as the leading

Superstock team ?

“I had never finished a 24 Hour race be-

fore. The team granted me the last stint

and that was a wonderful gesture. My

first finish in a 24 Hour race and then

you win your class... That last hour we

all slowed down a bit, but it was all

about finishing. After the flag it seemed

like a weight was lifted from my shoul-

ders, because I was so tired. Th real ex-

hiliration could be seen in the pitlane.

Seeing all those happy smiling faces,

everybody was completely exhausted,

but we'd done it !”

What would you say are the strong

points of the team ? Would you

change anything ?

“We are really a team, from the cook

and the truck drivers to the riders. It felt

as if I was on holiday with my family, re-

ally ! I normally don't have any problems

getting along with foreign people. And

to be honest, I would not know what to

change. Maybe my French! But I'm

working on that.”

What are your personal special fea-

tures and what needs improving ?

“I don't particularly like tight corners, but

I'm improving. If I feel confident on a

bike I'm a good late braker, I have good

entry speed and I'm fast exiting corners.

I tend to lose a little mid corner speed

and that is something that we're work-

ing on by changing the balance of the

bike.”

What is your ambition for the 2011

season? And do you still have one

ultimate dream ?

“It would be fantastic if we were to be

crowned champions in our class. It

would be great if we'd finish on the

podium everywhere. You should never

underestimate the competition, but we

have a good team with fast riders and

we're definitely one of the favourites in

the Superstock class. I heard we're rac-

ing at Donington in 2011. I love fast flow-

ing tracks like Mugello and Phillip Island

and Donington is absolutely one of my

favourite circuits. I'm already looking

forward to that weekend. And as for that

ultimate dream: well, I've given up on

that a bit, haha! When I started racing I

wanted to be world champion in GPs.

But maybe I get the chance to sort of

make that dream come true with the

Bikers' Days Team by becoming Super-

stock champions next year.”

And who knows, one day we mighteven do it as ateam in theSuperbike class ?

WARM UP 21 / THE BELGIAN MOTO ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP

We’ve decided to rename the en-

durance championship that we

launched last year.

The new name « The Belgian Moto

Endurance Championship » gives a

better reflection of the image of our

partners, accessorisers and importers

that continue to support us and it

sounds better for the public.

Just as in 2010 we’ll do our utmost to

have more TV coverage for the Belgian

Moto Endurance Championship in pro-

grammes such as Pitlane andMoteurs.

AN IDENTICAL FORMULA …

If we take into consideration the interest that ex-ists for these races, the ever increasing number ofparticipants and the intensity of the races we justhave to admit that the first Endurance4Fun sea-son was a complete success.

So in 2011 we’ll continue what we started! There’ll be once again a combination of experi-enced amateur riders and more professional ridersthat’ll race against each other in sprint or en-durance races. This all in the same spirit as always, to give every-one the opportunity to shine, also the amateur rid-ers!

Just as last year we’ll see to it that there are noteams with exclusively experienced riders, so thatthere is a sound balance between the variousteams and chances are the same for everyone. This is not just a form of sportiness but also meansthat the championship will remain undecided untilthe very end.

A WELL-FILLED CALENDAR

We start with Spa-Francorchamps on the 24th ofApril, in May we head for Mettet and begin Junewe take on the Zolder track. In July Dijon is on theprogramme with two races of two hours each andin August we return to Francorchamps for the ulti-mate race, The Six Hours of Spa.

The finale of the championship will take place inZolder just like last year. So there’s some foreveryone : for the riders there are different tracks, technical as well as high speed tracks and the en-durance races will test the smoothness of the as-sistance.

Subscription forms and the rules and regulationsof the championship are available on our sitewww.Belgian Moto Endurance Championship.com

Just as last year you can book your race num-ber for an entire seasons. A facility for you andan opportunity for your sponsors.

The 2011 calendarconsists out of six races

that’ll take placeon four different tracks.

Rest assured, the name changesbut we wouldn’t

change asuccessful formula !

Located centrally in between Valencia(188 km), Alicante (169 km) and Murcia(149 km), this track is often used for thedifferent Spanish championships andlast October, it hosted the EuropeanChampionship. Our friend RaymondSchouten finished 3rd and Bastienmackels was 7th in the Supersports cat-egory of the European Grand Prix (UEM)while Grégory Fastré took the electricalprototype of the Campus Francorchampsto a 9th place.

Each year, an endurance race of 8 Hourstakes place at this track, starting at sun-set, which means that part of the race isdone at night.

The track has a length of

3.539 m with a straight line of

600 m and is situated at the

entrance of the town. Our very

own Belgian rider Xavier

Siméon set his first (not so

easy) steps on this track once.

DISCOVERALBACETE …

For the coming season, we’ll stick

to our traditions and start the 2011 Bikers’ Days

season with the Spanish Week.

There’s something new though, ‘cause we start

the festivities of this year in Albacete.

A première for the license holders or very fast

riders, ‘cause as you know, the Spanish Week is

meant for those with proven track experience.

VALENCIA17 AND 18 MARCH…

Those are the dates for the first part of the Spanish Week, follo-wed by a visit to Valencia, very much appreciated by everyone.

Here the license holders can do some last tests and check if they’reready before the new racing season starts.

All details and subscription forms of this double adventure can be foundon our website www.bikersdays.com

Of course our usual services are also available for this event(transportation, tyres, Chrono’s Fun, etc.) and also the « All In »

formula to make live as easy as possible for you.

« I have to admit that my experience withthis track dates back to when I wasn’teven 15 years old aboard an Aprilia 70ccand I still don’t really get the hang of it. Ihaven’t figured out yet how you go fromfast to very fast on this track, allowing youto gain those tenths of a second, whichyou need to be part of the front group.

Maybe it’s because you automatically gorather fast on this track. But to go veryfast is something else. You have to be aregular visitor of this track to clock goodlap times. The Spanish riders rule here andsometimes finish a lap in 1.30. As an am-ateur, if you clock at 1.40, it’s already avery good job.

The secret lies in the last part, with thelong left followed by a right turn. And although it’s a flat track, you some-times have to accelerate while inclinedand that takes full concentration. The wind also plays a major role and cancause troubles in some turns. Of coursethe track meets all security norms thatapply to the modern tracks nowadays andthere are enough and good run off areas. Also the infrastructure and accommoda-tion are good (the canteen has just beenrenewed).

The track is situated at the entrance of thetown with its many little streets and alleyswith that typical Spanish atmosphere. »

Xavier Siméon

We’re curious to hear his opinion on the‘circuito de velocidad’ of Albacete.

although we would like to do some

things we often don’t succeed in real-

WARM UP 21 / KRUGGER

Basse-Bodeux…since August this little vil-

lage close to Malmédy is no longer a vague

souvenir in the minds of a few G.I. veterans

of the battle of the Ardennes. Nowadays

fans of beautiful – very beautiful – motor-

cycles also know it as the home of Krugger.

This is the name of Fred’s company, a real

craftsman in the most pure sense of the

word. Begin August he won the World

Championship Chopper Building in Sturgis

(United States). A valuable recognition of

his art.

Let’s take a look at his life course …

« I’m putting the last handto a new prototype

to return to Bonneville. It’s just fantastic to ride on

that immense salt lake.Very impressive.

It’s as if the entirespace belongs to you.I hope to participate

in September, but it mightbe a little tight.

But in 2012 I’ll bethere for sure ! »

His father had an off-road accessorystore in Trois-Ponts so it was only nat-ural that he ended up in motocross andenduro. After having studied electromechanics for a few years he starts asan apprentice in a bodywork shop. Atthat time, he already has a taste forcreating things. He then gets a job in acar racing team but he quits when hisfirst child is born, mainly because hedoesn’t get any recognition despite thesuccesses he books. He then gets into the restoring of rac-ing cars on a high level, but he lacksthe necessary contacts and infrastruc-ture needed to do this kind of work. Hisfriends urge him to open his own shop. They’re amazed when they see his firstrealisation, a Harley FXR which heswopped for his Ducati Monstro and

built from the ground up, piece bypiece. In the beginning he keeps him-self busy with oil changes and mainte-nance work, but also with the creationof his first motorcycle called « Theracer ».« I presented this one at an exhibitionin the Flanders and to my own surpriseI got the first price and above all thecover of many magazines. » Thismeans the beginning of his glory, thestart of a new life. The creations followeach other quickly and recognition fol-lows.Two times he ends third in the worldchampionship, once in California in2004 and once in Nevada in 2005.

« Between 2005 and 2009 I didn’t par-ticipate due to lack of resources ».But his comeback in 2009 is suc-cessful, with another third place in2009 and finally, in 2010, a firstplace with his « VEON », first out of150 participants from 30 different coun-tries. The Veon is a revolutionary ma-chine that took him two years to build. It can change geometry in a few sec-onds, going from a roadster to acruiser, depending on the configurationof the road. « It’s also the first timethat an original Harley engine won, hespecifies. » That got him the atten-tion of Willy G. Davidson who cameto congratulate him personally.

« I’m the only one in this line of busi-ness who builds a motorcycle com-pletely from A to Z on my own and Ipromote the companies whose prod-ucts I use, such as Beringer, TRP, Wild-hog and RSD. I also take advantage ofthese projects to develop parts forthem, not only technical but also de-

sign-wise. Most of my clients are in-ternational and each motorcycle isunique and built on demand of the cus-tomer, although it has to fit into myown philosophy. Everything is possiblebut when I give advise to people theytend to follow it and have faith in me.I’m not systematically Harley-minded‘cause in free style we also often useRotax, Triumph and in some caseseven Japanese.

It’s the creative part that interestsme the most, not so much the indus-trial side of it. I’m a craftsman, sortof a study bureau. »

We haven’t heard andseen the last yet of Kruggerand his magnificent work.

WARM UP 21 / PHILIPPE BROODCOOREN

« The DriversDays tookplace on Thursday and wehad a race the followingweekend. So for us it wasthe ideal opportunity to dis-cover this formula whilefine-tuning the car for therace. »

What was your first im-pression ?« Very well. Nothing to re-mark. Of course we knewthat most of the participantswere amateurs. So we drovein a correct way and we sawto it not to scare the otherparticipants or to put pres-sure on them. After all weweren’t there to set the bestlap time but to fine-tuneour car.

At the gatherings ofthe Porsche Club or atBikers’Day we also haveto drive this careful. »

Meaning ?« Even though the organis-ers do their very best, forcars as well as for motorcy-cles, it’s very difficult toknow the level people haveat the subscription. And yetit’s extremely important, butyou can only knowsomeone’s riding level whenyou actually see him at workon track. For their pleasureas well as for the pleasureof the others it’s very impor-tant to re-orientate peopleinto the most appropriategroup according to their rid-ing skills. »

What do you prefer, carsor motorcycles ?« When I got to dispose of areal racecar I thought I’d hadit with motorcycles. I veryquickly understood that itwas completely differentand that the sensationswere miles apart. And al-though I tend to bend overstrongly towards cars andhave to slow down on themotorcycle activities, I can’treally say that I prefer oneover the other. »

What can the DriversDaysoffer you ?« Like I said before, the op-portunity to fine-tune ourcar. We also take advantageof these days to thank oursponsors by offering rides asa passenger aboard our raccar. They love it. We alreadyhave reservations for 2011.It’s a way of combining workand pleasure. Nowadays Ihave a real racecar but be-fore that I came with myown Porsche biturbo withwhich I ride every day. Thefact of riding with your owncar has its benefits. Youknow the car better and you

get to know its qualities bet-ter… provided that you stayon the track !»

What would you change atthe programme of the Dri-versDays ?« The information given atthe neutralisation of thetrack. During the Bik-ers’Days as well as duringthe DriversDays, when anincident takes place ontrack, we just don’t knowwhat’s going on and whenwe’ll be able to continue. We’re always running toand from to know what’shappening and what we’rewaiting for.I understand that it’s noteasy for an organiser toknow how much time eachproblem will take but thereshould be some centralinformation point, whichwe can address to obtaininformation.

In Francorchamps there usedto be a catering problem butthat has been solved nowsince the new canteenabove the F1 boxes openedits doors. We don’t expect ahospitality unit as the onewe have at the Porche Days, but the French Fries boothjust wasn’t sufficient, espe-cially for the people accom-panying the riders. »

What’s your favouritetrack ?« Mugello without anydoubt. It’s perfectly located, the weather is almost al-ways fine and it’s the mostintelligent track I know. Thepublic has a good view onthe entire track when seatedcentrally.I also like Francorchamps, but then that’s for other rea-sons. And I find it very sadthat I missed out on Porti-mao due to professionalobligations. I’ve heard somuch good of it. »

HIS HEARTBELONGS TO BOTH …

Bikers’ Days, DriversDays, Philippe

Broodcooren knows them well.

During our events we meet this 45 year

old accountant aboard his Yamaha R1 as

well as behind the steering wheel of his

Porsche, always with the same drive and

the same passion. A passion for motorcy-

cles which he’s been cherishing for 18

years already and a passion for cars that

he has for nearly 10 years now. Today he’s

even thinking about participating in the

Belcar championship and the 24 Hours for

cars at Francorchamps with top teams.

It’s in view of the preparation for a car

race in Spa that he discovered the

DriversDays.
