Oct. 17, 2013A fox living near Blairstown, New Jersey got a much-needed

dinner by means of its foxy wits. Lying in hiding, the fox watched enviously as the Blairstown family set down a pot of food for their chained watchdog. Looking out, they saw a hungry-looking fox making wide circles around the dog. The fox continued to circle, just beyond the reach of the dog. Suddenly, the chain was wound tight around the stake, and the dog was barely able to move. The fox raced in, triumphantly snatched up the dinner, and swiftly vanished into the woods!

Once an ant closes its jaws on an object, it holds on no matter what the consequences are. Even if its head is cut off, it will often maintain its grip. In South America and other parts of the world, some people use this characteristic to heal wounds. When a person receives a cut, the edges of the wound are held together. The open jaws of a large ant are placed against the cut. The infuriated ant clamps its jaws together, one on each side of the cut. The people then cut off the body of the ant, leaving just the jaws to keep the wound effectively stitched.

The paragraph tells mainly:A. How helpful ants are.B. How clever the people of South America are.C. How wounds are effectively treated.D. How ants are used to bind wounds.

Some years ago a person could be fined up to $300.00 for killing a bat in San Antonio, Texas. Those were the years when malaria was a serious disease in southern Texas. City officials laughed at first when Dr. C. Campbell put up bat houses along the city’s marshy places without cost to the city. Later, though, when the malaria-causing mosquitoes began to vanish, they got the idea. The city officials ordered more bat houses built at city expense. They passed a law forbidding the killing of bats. Very soon, malaria had disappeared around San Antonio.

The paragraph tells mainly:A. What the fine was for killing bats.B. Why city officials laughed at Dr. Campbell.C. How bat houses helped eliminate malaria.D. When malaria was a serious disease in Texas.
