• Discuss how technological developments from 1450-1750 changed the Ottoman Empires global influence. Be sure to describe its position of power and influence in the beginning of the period as your starting point.

• Build a frame work. The purpose of this is make sure you do not leave anything out of your essay.

Baseline: What was it like before?

Impact: What had the impact? How was the political unit impacted?

Change: What changes occurred?

Continuity: What stayed the same?

Step 3: Build your essay

• Fill in your graphic organizer with details

• This means, people, dates, places, names of technology, ect.

Step 4: Write it

• First, you need to figure out if you want to say if something had or did not have an impact. Once you have done this:– Rephrase the question as an answer; include all key

phrases– Address each part of the question with a statement and

evidence– Make the transition to the body of the essay with a

sentence like, “To better understand these changes we need to look at the area prior to …”

• Your first paragraph is your THESIS paragraph, which should contain that STRONG statement of what you are going to write about.

• Second, write 4-6 paragraphs (Thesis, body, body, body, Closing)

• Use transitional words and trigger words to highlight important points

• Then frame & group documents

Step 5: Analyze and add

• You must analyze TWO documents for either bias or point of view, plus an additional document as part of the question

• Be sure to explain why you feel these documents will add to your analysis, don’t just describe them. What make these documents particularly important?

reference or an example (compare, contrast, and change over time as appropriate

– Suggest, describe, and justify the inclusion of the additional document as part of the last sentence

– Make the transition to the body of the essay by citing the additional document: “ To better understand how these documents relate to each other, a document about x would be useful.”

Music, art and literature often reflect the changes within a culture. Compare and contast the art, music and literature of the Enlightenment period in Europe with Tokugawa Japan. You should explain the major themes in the socieites and how each culture reacted to the changes of the time. Be sure to explain how the art styles differed or were the same.
