Objective
Students can solve linear equations and inequalities with fractions in them
Students can explain how to get rid of fractions
![Page 4: Warm Up. #31 Review Any other questions on the back side of the worksheet?](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062309/5697bf851a28abf838c876eb/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Solving an Equation with a Fraction1st Step- GET RID OF THE FRACTION!!
2nd Step – solve as a normal equation
How do we get rid of a fraction?
With a single fractions we simply multiply by the denominator
Consider =

Finding the Least Common Multiple
When we have multiple fractions we need to find the least common multiple of ALL the fractions in our equation
![Page 6: Warm Up. #31 Review Any other questions on the back side of the worksheet?](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062309/5697bf851a28abf838c876eb/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
More than 1 Fraction in the equation
Step 1- Find the Least Common Denominator (LCD) AKA the Least Common Multiple
Step 2. Multiply BOTH SIDES by the LCD
Step 3. divide the fractions (which will give you whole numbers)
Step 4. Solve the equation as usual once the fractions are gone
Consider

Solving equations with inequalities To solve an equation with an inequality we
solve just as we do with an equals sign, except we trade it for the inequality.
We keep the sign the same unless we DIVIDE BY A NEGATIVE in which case we flip the sign.
For example
7x - 3 > 11
![Page 10: Warm Up. #31 Review Any other questions on the back side of the worksheet?](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062309/5697bf851a28abf838c876eb/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Flipping the sign
If we divide by a negative in our final step to get x by itself then we flip the sign
For Example
-3x + 8 < 20
