Warburg School May 2017 Dear Warburg Families, It looks like spring has finally arrived. Dandelions are blooming and the bikes and scooters are making their way to school. Thank you for keeping our bikers and scooter kids safe by sending them to school wearing helmets. As you all know we had an impromptu evacuation of the school on Friday, May 5th. This evac- uation was the result of a faulty sensor located in the high school end of the school. All kids and staff left the school promptly. In fact, some of our grade 2 students that were getting ready to go home, were switching from inside to outside shoes. When they heard the bell, they left the school immediately and didn't put on the outside shoes. So, thank you parents for your un- derstanding when kids came home without shoes, backpacks, lunch bags and homework. I encourage everyone with kids in grades 6, 9 and diploma courses to take note of when exams are and help your kids to prepare for these tests. A good night's rest and a breakfast in the morning can make a world of difference when test writing. Recently, Alberta Education reduced the weighting of diploma marks to be 30% of a student s final grade. While it does count for less of a student's overall mark, it is important for our stu- dents. Kids that want to get into post-secondary schools after high school face a lot of compe- tition so we encourage all students to give every exam including diplomas their best effort. I have really appreciated all of the hard work our grad committee and Mrs. Fritz have been do- ing to prepare for the festivities on May 26. This will be a wonderful evening to commemorate 13 years (dont forget kindergarten) of hard work for our students. I look forward to seeing many of you there. Regards, Wendy Maltais

Warburg School: An Update of Our Awesomeness

Warburg School is a very special place, it has something no other school in our division has. What’s that you ask? Well, we are the only Kindergarten to grade 12 school! Why is that so special? Well, let me tell you, Warburg School has the ability to build positive relationships and partake in a variety of activities and learning opportunities at any age level. Doing these activities help our school build a sense of community and belong-ing among students and staff.

Fun days: Playoff activities, Student Council School Spirit Days, Halloween parade, fun is a part of learning at school.

SPECIAL GUESTS: Our junior/senior high had the opportunity to meet and cook with celebrity Chef Corbin Tomaszeski. He spoke to our students about success and bringing community and people togeth-er. Corbin graduated from Warburg School in 1990 and is well known as “Chef Corbin” to fans of The FoodNetwork and HGTV!

Of course, our “Student Wall of Fame” highlights our former student achievements and inspires current students! We enjoy the privilege of having our former students come back to visit now and then to offer en-couragement to our current students.

Our Graduation Photos dating back to the 1950’s hang on our hallway walls to give a nod to our school’s history. Viewing these photos are a popular activity for our visitors to our school!

Options: Some of our art students have been working on beautifying the open area as well as the Learning Common with their table art. They turned out amazing!!! Other students have chosen to learn the skill of welding in Industrial Arts or cooking in the Foods Lab. Our elementary enjoys a music program that is second to none. We offer a number of options to our students throughout the year!

ATHLETICS: One of the best things about being in a K-12 school is that teachers as well as students have the opportunity to join/coach sports teams. Our coaches promote academics as well as being a good role model on and off the court...or ice. We offer a range of athletic opportunities for students. GO PANTHERS!!

GRANTS & Partnerships: This year thanks to Miss Przytula (Health Champion) and the Warburg Par-ent Council, we were able to receive a grant to create a Welcoming Space where students can appreciate nature and art. We are still in the process of getting supplies and renewing this space but we are excited to begin! We also enjoy the support of many local companies that help our school for numerous special projects and Work Experience/R.A.P. student opportunities.

STUDENT LED ASSEMBLIES: Our assemblies, both in the elementary and secondary, are a sight to see. As part of the Leader in Me program it is important for students to realize that everyone is a leader. Our assemblies have really transformed from being teacher led to student led. Members of our Student Council put together an amazing presentation that is engaging, interactive and informative. Our elementary students are learning how to public speak and promote the 8 Habits at school and at home.

BREAKFAST PROGRAM: The Breakfast program is run by a few very special volunteers in our community. Throughout the week they prepare and handout some healthy choices such as fruit, yogurt, juice, water, toast and baking. They promote manners and are great role models in our school community.

This is just a snippet of how awesome our K-12 school really is. We really are a Small School with a Big Heart.

Extra Curricular activities such as Dungeons & Dragons Club, Girl A-G0-G0 and Archery, just to name a few!

Academics:

Warburg School students achieve.

By promoting habits of study and learning, our students have the opportunity to bring their very best self to the class-room everyday. With invest-ment in programs such as The Leader in Me and Accelerated Reader we offer students the chance to bolster their habits and abilities to achieve.

Opportunity: Our Student Council presented to administrators across Alberta at the Leader in Me Symposium on March 14th.

Over Spring Break, Thirteen students travelled to France and Belgium as a part of the B.G.R.S. Vimy Heritage Tour 2017
