Wayiba, wanthiwa, tharnadu and hello, Sadly, this is my last newsletter. After three and a half years it
is time for me to move to Perth to be back with my wife. I am
proud of all the work we have accomplished since I started in
2015. Student learning has gone from strength to strength
especially in the Early Years and Middle Primary. The
attraction and retention of quality teachers has ensured that
the classroom environment is safe and encouraging.
It has also been my pleasure working with the community
through the Elders Yarn and the 6718 Education and Learning
Balagarni. Ensuring community voices are heard and leading
within the school is critical. We have seen this in the
transparency of the TAFE and through our Monday afternoon
cultural activities, where all community members are welcome
to attend.
Roebourne will always be dear to my heart. I have enjoyed
every minute of being up here and have lots of wonderful
memories. It is also special to me as my children attended the
school. Thank you to the staff, students and all our families for
learning and working together to make this school a great
school. In my absence, Sharon Tawhiti, will be acting Principal
until the interim Principal is appointed. Once again thank you.
Kind regards,
David Paine

KINDY
Term 3 has seen the start of the 2018 Pre-Kindy. There is a full class of gorgeous little kids
who are very excited to learn. They should all be super proud of themselves as a new
experience can be a little scary. But there were lots of smiles and some of the siblings
helped to settle them in.
Last week, the kindy students revisited the nursery rhyme “Humpty Dumpty sat on a Wall”.
We wrote a story map together as a class, and then the students worked using a variety of
materials to retell the story.
This included using puppets, story stones, teddies and costumes.

This term, we are learning about people who help us in the community. We have been learning about doctors and dentists. The students have enjoyed role playing in the home corner and helping their patients get better quickly.
The Kindy students are learning about the story ‘The Runaway Damper Bread Man’. On Tuesday, when we came into the classroom, we found the Damper Bread Man cooking on a pretend camp fire. At recess, he ran away to the office and we had to go and catch him! Throughout the week, the Damper Bread Man has been getting into all sorts of mischief including playing with our classroom toys, eating our fruit and reading books to puppets in the library. The Kindy kids have loved learning the new story, making their own damper bread men to eat, and of course, learning all about their new friend.

The Pre Primary students celebrated 100 days of school last Week! We talked about what we would do when we were 100 years old. Some students were going to be fishing and hunting. Some students would use a stick to walk. Some students would do whatever they like. We all look forward to being old and having a family to care for. The photos gave us a clue as to what we might look like. Do you know who these old people are?

Our very talented Roebourne students have been working so hard this year producing some
amazing art!
Our NAIDOC day art show was a great success, with so many different paintings, drawings and
prints from Kindy all the way up to Year 12. The students from Room 8 proudly wore their hand
painted shirts!

This term, Room 4 are working hard to design some pictures for the Roebourne police, which
will be used as the background for a new sign in town.
Room 8 recently had a visit to Roebourne Hospital, where they gifted their artwork to be hung
up on the walls around the children’s area. They had a tour, sausage sizzle, and were lucky
enough to be gifted with two Monopoly games and Batman Lego!

Learning Club News
Term 3 is well on its way and we’ve been very busy at the Learning Club.
So far this term we have been doing lots of reading and maths games to improve our skills.
Just a reminder to parents and guardians; the Learning Club is free for all students to join
and runs every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 2:30-4pm at the school to help
support your children in their learning.
If you would like your child/children to join, please collect an enrolment form from the office
and return it to school.
I look forward to the rest of the term and all the exciting things we will be getting up to!
Miss Demi
