Dear Members: We are finally seeing and feeling the change of seasons from the top of the hill at Wanakah Country Club. Looking down from above we can still see some of the winter ice continuing to slowly but surely melt into Lake Erie. As spring has begun to arrive the grass is turning green, and yes golf carts were permitted to be driven on the course for the first time on April 16th. With the changes in the weather, WCC is also experiencing changes in the golf shop. Our golf professional will be leaving by the end of April. Although the timing of his departure is not ideal, the Board has decided to attempt to fill the position with an interim pro for the 2015 golf season. In the next week we hope to complete the interview process and move forward. The Board will conduct a full search in the fall with the expectation that there will be a greater pool of candidates available at that time. For the most part, none of us like to experience change that is outside of our control. As was earlier reported, the State of New York has taken a small piece of our property behind the 15th green. The legal process involved is known as eminent domain. It simply involves the right of the government to take private property for public use with payment of compensation. This process involves the State taking our property in order too place a culvert from the creek underneath Lake Shore Road. While the project itself has a number of changing parts and an ill defined time line, we expect to lose several additional trees behind the 15th green. Movement of heavy equipment will be involved but the use of the 15th green will not be interrupted. This entire process involves an area approximately 68 feet behind the green extending to the road. Our sight lines from tee to green will change during construction but our golf course architect has provided the Club with a design to implement following the construction process. The State is not only responsible to pay the Club for the value of the land it has taken but it is also required to pay for the cost to restore the land located within the area behind the green. We will do our best to restore the area after the State contractor has completed the project. The Club has been successful in recruiting new members. We now have 295 golfing members. I would like to thank all of our members who enthusiastically recommended our Club to their friends. As everyone begins to return I hope your families enjoy everything that Wanakah Country Club has to offer
Very truly yours, Kevin J. Sullivan President

Una Sera Italiana was one of 2014’s most enjoyable evenings at Wanakah. All who attended will tell you the food was spectacular, the wines were superb, the music was wonderful and the company, as always, was outstanding. As they say in Italy it was un bell’italiana sera (a beautiful Italian evening).
For those familiar with the history and tradition of Venice, the Masquerade Party was always a highlight of the Venetian social calendar.
On Saturday evening May 2, we are taking Wanakah’s Italian Night to a new level. “A Night In Venice – a Masquerade Party”, will have a Venetian theme and all members who come to the party wearing a mask and or costume will be entered into a drawing for a number of prizes that range from Italian Gift Baskets to gift certificates for dinners and much more.
In the true tradition of Italy, more is better. Our palates will be graced with foods that originate across all of Northern Italy and there will be no shortage of exquisite Italian wines specially selected from the most famous wine regions in the country As for beautiful Italian music, Joe Gallo and his wandering minstrels will meander throughout the evening serenading you and your group at your table in the style of old Italy. Don’t be afraid to join in and sing some of the great old Italian favorites. And don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes, because after dinner, we’ll adjorn to the grill where there will be dancing ‘til dawn’.
We are only a few days away and reservations are coming in fast; so don’t miss out on one of the best nights at Wanakah. It is a great way to help kick off the 2015 season and see your old friends.
A Night in Venice is sure to be un bell’italiana sera, one you won’t want to miss. Come with a loved one, come alone, bring a friend or a group, this will be a night that will make you proud to be a member of the Wanakah Country Club, the best club in WNY.
Bon appetito!!
$60 per person includes our select variety of Italian Wines and the Belini station, as well as Italian wine on your table throughout dinner. Beer and Cocktails will be by signature.

Our new president, Kevin Sullivan has asked us to Co-Chair a committee on his behalf of our club. Since we have so many members we thought we would enlighten you as to the history of what our Fathers, Mothers and Grandparents did along with those of our generation, to give us what we enjoy today at Wanakah. My parents joined in 1946 and Karen’s in the mid 50’s. At the time when my Father and Mother joined the club I was a freshman in high school and Karen was somewhat younger. I believe the following has been added and removed from the club from 1946 to present day. 1. The new bathroom facilities off of 16 2. Removed tennis courts from below the swimming pool 3. Removed huge water tower between tennis courts and 9th fairway 4. Repaved entire parking lot 5. New Pro shop and storage shed for carts 6. New front entrance and gardens at front entrance 7. New gardens in front of entrance at the club house 8. New driving range 9. New swimming pool 10. Just recently improved holes in 1, 2, 4, part of 5, 8, 10, 12, 13 (removal of lake next to green) 14, 15, 16 and 17 11. New deck with roof outside of grill room (roof of deck was destroyed during the October storm, replaced that spring 12. Replaced chipping range 13. Replaced Skeet Range behind the tennis court, added 20 years ago 14. New Cigar Pit 15. New locker rooms and showers for men and women. In addition to new locker rooms there is a beautiful room on the
2nd floor over looking the golf course. The 2nd floor had 3 bedrooms and was converted to the Board Room in addi-tion to a Lounge.
16. Grille room completely remodeled (removed bar from back wall to corner where it is today.) 17. Front entrance rebuilt and decorated living and dining rooms 18. Several years ago, we hired a talented young lady to redo the gardens around the club and some of the greens and tees 19. Shelter between 7 and 17 tees 20. Ladies restroom off of Ladies locker room 21. Iroquois room 22. Bench names and rock markers If I left something out, I’m sure my committee will let me know.
We are now looking forward to renovations to the Kitchen for the second time this period. With the exception of the Kitchen, all have been bought and paid for! All for your enjoyment and golfing pleasure.
Next month we should be telling you about the activities of the Club and some of its illustrious history. I am going through many photos of the club, which are in my possession. These will be put in the Iroquois Room for your viewing pleasure.

Anyone interested in contributing or learning more about the history and traditions of Wanakah
are welcome to meet with the group Sunday Mornings in the Iroquois room.
Course News
This spring has been cold, wet and almost impossible to get things done on a timely manner.
Due to ice damage in low areas on greens 9, 13, 18 and the putting green, attention was needed.
Staff is cleaning up tree debris, edging bunkers, aerifying greens and cleaning plugs off fairways.
Routine course grooming is still a couple weeks out.
