As you would know, additional measures to respond to coronavirus (COVID-19) were announced yesterday, including further restrictions on public gatherings. Specifically, non-essential indoor gatherings of the general population of more than 100 people will no longer be permitted from yesterday, Wednesday 18 March. While this is an important update, it applies to non-essential gatherings only and does not apply to schools and other settings deemed essential, including health care settings and workplaces. Victorian schools remain open, in line with the latest advice from Australias Chief Medical Officer and Victorias Chief Health Officer. Further information regarding school assemblies and events can be found on the Departments website. Some points to note: Schools are advised that visitors (which can include presenters for incursions) are still very welcome to come into schools. Therapists at this stage will be asked to conduct sessions outside the classrooms (using meeting spaces) and must be in good health. If parents make the decision to keep their children at home, this is respected and will be coded by the school accordingly. If schools are closed, teachers will be requested to workremotely by the Education Department and we are currently planning for this – teachers are preparing materials and options for students to use for home learning should this eventuate. Some of these will be via online resources such as Reading Eggs, Essential Assessments- Maths, EPIC, Google classrooms and alike. More details will be shared as they become confirmed and required. All excursions/camps scheduled to commence from this week onwards must be postponed and rescheduled, or, if there is no other option, cancelled. We have done this for all planned activities which were organised for next week. School sport is considered an excursion, which means that: Any inter-school sporting events and competitions to be run from today will be postponed until further notice, where possible. All inter-school sporting events and competitions from Tuesday 17 March will be postponed immediately until further notice. Girls Football Lightning Premierships postponed Sport at school can continue. These measures are intended to protect the health of our students and the broader community. Rotary Grade 6 Community Program Unfortunately the Rotary community program for Grade 6 students has also had to be cancelled. Interschool sport School Sport Victoria has already postponed a number of school sport events planned for the remainder of Term 1. School Sport Victoria will be reviewing the inter-school sport program over the coming weeks. At this stage they are unable to advise whether postponed events will be re-scheduled. Team Vic Team Vic events including selection trials and training will be cancelled. This also means that Team Vic teams will not be competing in School Sport Australia Championships. All frequently asked questions can be found on the Depart- ment of Education and Training (DET) Coronavirus website which aims to be a dynamic and helpful resource to schools. DET will continue to develop guidance around many of the common queries we have as a school and community. School Council Last night the new School Council met for the first time. We welcomed aboard new members Daniel Peyton (parent rep) and Tanya James (DET rep). I am pleased to announce that Glenn Smethurst has been elected President, Danielle Wilks, Vice-President and Matthew Robertson, Treasurer. We discussed a range of topics but the current situation regarding COVID-19 dominated proceed- ings. Payments made for India Day Incursion & Family Disco Families who have made payments for India Day will have these held in credit until such time that the incursion can occur. Payments made for Family Disco can be credited to Essential Items if you havent already made payment or it can be held in credit for other events later in the year. There is no need to do anything if you wish to take up this op- tion. However, if you wish to get a refund, please contact the office by Friday 20 th March via email: [email protected]. Please include your BSB and account details for direct deposit. Changes in Family Details Please keep us up to date with any changes to the details which we hold. Contact details and emergency contacts are vital when we need to contact families about injuries or ill- nesses. Skoolbag app can be used to communicate these changes for phone numbers, emergency contacts or email addresses or email the school at: [email protected] . Good hygiene practices are the most effective means of minimising the spread of Novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Schools have a responsibility to help stop the spread of infection by providing soap and other hygiene consumables to support good hand hygiene. Here are some tips that every- one at your school can follow: 1. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing with a tissue, or cough into your elbow. 2. Dispose of the tissue into a bin and then wash your hands afterwards. 3. Wash your hands regularly, using soap and water, including after using the toilet, and before eating. Alcohol-based sanitiser (greater than 60 per cent alcohol) is a good back-up if soap and water is not readily accessi- ble (hand sanitiser is available in all classrooms). Please help us by reinforcing these messages with your children and for further information go to the Dept. of Health’s website: https:// www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/victorian-public-coronavirus-disease-covid-19
