________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ Welcome back students and parents to what is set to be an exciting and busy term for staff and students alike. Please make the time to read the newsletter each week and keep up to date with all the programs, excursions and information that will help all of us work our way through the term, working together and carefully planning for all that will take place over the next 10 weeks. We welcomed four new students to our school this week; one from Victoria, two from Bathurst and one from Sydney. Our school leaders will present ‘welcome’ certificates at the assembly next week. Building the Education Revolution (BER) Under the Federal Government stimulus funding program works will commence later this week on several projects, all of which will enhance what is already a beautiful, welcoming and modern learning environment for our children. Projects include: 1. Enclosing the C.O.L.A. 2. Refurbishing the school library 3. A special programs classroom 4. New outdoor learning area in the playground These projects will have a significant impact on the functioning of the school over the next 2-3 months. Staff have already begun planning for changes to playground usage and supervision of students along with preparing alternate arrangements for students recess and lunch eating procedures, particularly for students K-2. I will present a full overview of building works at the next P&C meeting to be held on Monday 26 th July at 7pm. Parents are invited to come along to the meeting and be informed on the scope of works and changes to school routines and supervision that will occur during the construction phase. A number of changes with library routines will occur due to the refurbishment. Library lessons have been deferred until later this term as all books, resources and furniture in the library are to be packed up and stored until works are completed. Parents are asked to keep all books currently on loan at home until this happens. Book week has also been postponed until Term 4. Information will be provided throughout the term updating you on the library situation. Whilst this may seem disruptive and inconvenient the end result will be highly beneficial with children and teachers having access to the even more ‘state of the art’ facilities at Wallerawang Public School. **************************** Wallerawang Playgym Playgym is coming to Wallerawang School! Playgym is an activity of the Sydney West Area Health Service which provides a movement and social development program for families with children aged 2 to 5 years. The emphasis is on having fun with your children, whilst developing new skills. There will be two Open Days on Tuesday 27 th July and Tuesday 3 rd August (10.30 am till 12noon) in the School Hall for you to meet the group presenters, ask questions, and participate in some fun activities. The groups are planned to commence on Tuesday 10 th August, and will operate generally the same as school terms. All groups during 2010 will be free! Russell Richardson - Cup Rugby League The junior boys from Wallerawang Public School did themselves, their school and their families proud when they competed in the finals of the Richardson Shield in Dubbo on Wednesday 30th June. It was a very cold start for the boys with frost crackling under their feet, but they soon warmed up to some competitive and entertaining football. The boys scored a win against Nyngan Public School with Dylan Miles scoring one try and Jarryd Clark two, a four all draw against Walgett Public School with tries from Zac Stanford, Jordan (Zippy) McHugh, Thomas Fraser and Tyson Griffiths and a loss to the team who took out the Richardson Cup Trophy, St Lawrence’s Dubbo. This meant that Wallerawang was placed 2nd in their pool. This was an outstanding effort for these boys who are going to continue to develop their football skills. The boys were able to mingle and talk to past and present footballers during the day and have autographs signed.

David Peachey addressed the crowd, talking about the significance of the day and the important part sport plays in country communities, along with the important part teachers and parents play in supporting sport in schools to give children a range of sporting opportunities beyond the classroom. Mrs Lamborn and the team consisting of Josh Lane, Tyson Griffiths, Dylan Miles, Jarryd Clark, Jordan McHugh, Pacey Stockton, Thomas

Fraser, Zane Anderson, Zac Stanford and Brock Coleman would like to thank Corey Stockton for his commitment to training and his support and encouragement. Thanks also to the families for making the trip to Dubbo to give the boys an experience they will remember well into adult life. A reminder that all football uniforms from the finals day need to be returned to me by the end of the week. Mrs Lamborn Team Manager
