When we first meet Wall-E, he is all alone on Earth with his pet cockroach. Even thoughEarth is deemed uninhabitable for humans, Wall-E continues to follow his directive ofcleaning garbage every day. Wall-E looks a little rusty and worn but he is able tomaintain himself since he collects working parts from no longer working Wall-Es. Wall-Econtinues his daily routine until Eve, a high tech sleek looking robot shows up. Wall-Eimmediately becomes intrigued with Eve and follows her around. Eve has been sent toEarth to find plant life and to verify habitability. At first, Eve is not interested in Wall-Eand chooses to ignore him while she scans for vegetation. Eventually Wall-E is able toget Eve to warm up to him and they form an amazing friendship. Eve and Wall-E fighttogether to help humans return to Earth and truly define the definition of friendship, loyalty, and love. This movie is not only entertaining but it really helps us the viewer, see the bigger picture on how industrialization and pollution effect us. 3. MEET THE CHARACTERS: 4. Main Character: WALL-EWaste Allocation Load Lifer Earth Class Wall-E is a small robot that is the last functioning compactor box left on Earth. Hestill diligently fulfills his directive to clean up garbage on Earth even though it hasbeen abandoned. He finds broken Wall-Es and takes the essential parts that stillwork for his own use. He develops strong feelings for Eveand protects her at all cost. Wall-E is a brave, loyal, unselfish robot that is the heroof the movie. 5. Meet: EVEExtraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator Eve is a high tech robot that is sent to Earth to locate any signs of vegetation. Shequickly scans large sections looking for plant life which would also mean that Earthwas suitable for humans to live on again. She is quick to fire her weaponwhenever she feels threatened. When she is first approached by Wall-E, she hasno interest in him and tries to ignore him while continuing on her search. Wall-E isfinally able to connect with Eve and they have a budding friendship. Eve is a verybrave, strong, intelligent, hard working robot. 6. Greetings: Captain B. McCrea Captain B. McCrea is the commander on the Axiom. He has a daily routine whichdoes not motivate him since the ship is controlled by autopilot. When he discoversdirt from the old boot that the plant is in, he becomes fascinated with researchingEarth. He fights Auto when he tries to take back command of his ship and standsup for the first time, (which is a big deal.) He leads the way back to Earth and helpsthe rest of the crew understand more about life on Earth. 7. AUTOAutopilot Artificial IntelligenceAuto is the ships autopilot and the antagonist of the movie. Following hisdirective, Auto tries to prevent the Axiom from returning to Earth because of hightoxicity. On several occasions, Auto tries to get rid of the plant life with the help ofMcCreas robotic assistant GO-4. He tries to fight off Captain McCrea, Wall-E, andEve all at once to take control of the ship. 8. MAJOR THEMESINDUSTRIALIZATION& POLLUTION:When we watch Wall-E, we quickly understand that Earth has become completely uninhabitable for humans because of waste and pollution. Every scene on Earth has mountains of garbage everywhere and buildings made of garbage now stand in the place where real buildings used to be. Pollution is a reoccurring theme throughout the entire film and there is a strong message for everyone to understand: if we dont start making huge improvements in the way we deal with pollution, garbage, waste management, recycling, etc., things may possibly end up like the situation in Wall-E.TECHNOLOGY:Technology was another major theme in Wall-E. Humans who had been sent in space to liveaboard the Axiom had become so dependent on technology that they had ALL become obeseand incredibly lazy. There was a complete disconnect to anything real. Due to the fact thattechnology made their lives so simple, they didnt have to move a muscle so there wassevere bone loss. Technology continues to improve all the time, we depend on it to makeours lives easier but when do we realize that we start to depend on technology too much? 9. TECHNICAL ASPECTS: In 2008 Pixar Animation Studios produced Wall-E, an American computer-animated film directed by Andrew Stanton. Ben Burtt designed robotic sounds andbody language for Wall-E instead of having actual human voices. Wall-E was thefirst animated feature by Pixar to have segments featuring live-action characters. On June 27, 2008, Walt Disney Pictures released Wall-E in the United States andCanada receiving incredibly positive reception and reviews. The movie Wall-E makes a lot of references for Apple computers. Steve Jobs wasstill actively involved with the company. 10. VIDEO CLIPS: This video shows the dangers of human dependency on technology and what itwould be like if we started to be solely dependent on it. In this clip, you will noticethat humans have become obese and no longer move on their own but bypersonal air shuttles. If anything happens to them, robots/technology areimmediately there to assist them. The scene where the woman realizes that theyhave a pool is priceless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9s7afoYI-M Director Andrew Stanton was interviewed and talks about technology, the bigmessage, or the fact that he wasnt trying to really convey a message but insteadshow how things would end up logically if things dont change, Wall-E design andmuch much more. This was a neat video to understand how Wall-E was created. http://youtu.be/Cdw2rPunW9M 11.
