National Fragile X Foundation (Tax ID# 84-

0960471, fragilex.org) and the FRAXA Research

Foundation (Tax ID# 04-222167, FRAXA.org ).

Both are 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable

organizations. Any amount is greatly

appreciated and will help the NFXF and FRAXA

help families, spread awareness and fund

research.

helps further a wonderful cause!! You can also

2013 7th Annual

Walk for Fragile X

Our daughters Skylar,13, & Silver, 10,

have Fragile X Syndrome. Both are affected

differently and have their own unique

struggles, but they are bright, loving, sweet

girls that have touched the hearts of many

people who know them. We are proud to say

Skylar was picked as a Student of the Month

at her school this year and is participating in

the 6th Grade Musical. Silver has an

awesome sense of humor and loves her main

man Justin Bieber.

We are grateful of the work of the National

Fragile X Foundation & the FRAXA Research

Foundation in spreading accurate

information about Fragile X, advocating for

awareness, and funding research to one day

find a cure.

We organize this walk to support their

efforts, to bring awareness to others about

Fragile X Syndrome and to create an

opportunity for families affected by Fragile X

to connect.

What is Fragile X ?

Fragile X Syndrome (FX) is the world’s

leading cause of inherited mental impairment,

which can affect both males and females. The

spectrum of intellectual impairment ranges from

subtle learning disabilities to severe intellectual

impairment. In addition, FX is associated with

anxiety, sensory integration difficulties and a group

of physical and behavioral characteristics as well as

speech and language delays. FX is also the cause of

a Parkinson’s like condition called Fragile-X Associated Tremor Ataxia Syndrome(FXTAS). FXTAS affects some adult carriers over

the age of 50, causing progressive balance, tremor

and memory problems. Females who carry the FX

gene are also at an increased risk for Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) a condition

where the ovaries stop functioning at full capacity.

● About 1 in 250 women and 1 in 800 men carry the

pre-mutation of FX

● 1 in every 4,000 males and 1 in every 6,000

females are estimated to have the FX full mutation

● Fragile X is caused by a defect in a single gene

discovered in 1991

● A simple DNA blood test for Fragile X was

developed in 1992 that is over 99% accurate.

● Scientists are working to uncover the precise links between autism and Fragile X and believe that potential treatments to reverse many of the core symptoms of both autism and Fragile X Syndrome are within sight!
