What is Worship@Home?

Worship@Home is a tool for you to use during this unprecedented time of cancelled worship services because of COVID-19. Three of these services were first created last summer for use by individuals and families during the summer vacation season. Newly designed and created services will be provided for Palm Sunday, Easter and additional Sundays as needed. The order of service is similar to what we do every Sunday at WFBC but tweaked to work on a much smaller level. We suggest that prior to Sunday, you take some time to read over the worship, choose which videos you might prefer and get an understanding for what the message will be. When Sunday or whichever day works for you comes, gather the family and begin worship. You’ll note some parts of the worship have instructions to follow and some have links to follow for videos for music or the message. You can watch these on your phone, ipad or computer as a part of your Worship@Home. The icons will let you know what is coming next in the service; see below for what each icon means. At the end of this file, there is a current prayer list. We hope you will include this in your prayer time along with your personal prayers. Finally, have fun with it! We want to see you enjoying Worship@Home so take a picture or a short video. Post it on social media and tag it with #wfbcworshipathome and tag us on Instagram and Twitter with @WFBaptistChurch.

“At the Beach with Jesus” John 21:1-14 Acknowledging God’s Presence Prayer (offered by family member or read the Unison Prayer below)

Lord our God, Sharpen our vision and adjust our focus Lest we mistake small things for great, Lest we confuse the temporary with the eternal, Lest we believe that faith is a matter of having all of the right answers. Be Thou present to make of this time a holy time. Amen.

Call to Praise (based on Philippians 2:9-11): Leader: Therefore, God also highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above

every name. ALL: ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS’ NAME! Leader: So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend. ALL: ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS’ NAME! Leader: In heaven and on earth and under the earth. ALL: ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS’ NAME! Leader: And every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God

the Father. ALL: ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS’ NAME!

Lifting Our Prayers to God Prayer Journal

Share your prayer requests with the other members of your family and then record them in a prayer journal. One person can pray for all the requests you’ve listed for the day. The next time you pray together, look over the requests you listed previously and update any changes and answers. This is a good way to see how God has been active in your prayer lives.

Listening to God’s Word Worship Through Music: “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus (Look Up)” by Nichole Nordeman Bible Reading John 21:1-14 Read the scripture from your favorite translation or have different family members share in the reading below. The Bible reading today records the third and final post-resurrection appearance of Jesus in the book of John. The Sea of Tiberias is another name for the Sea of Galilee.

Narrator: After these things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias; and he showed himself in this way. Gathered there together were Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples. Simon Peter said to them,

Peter: I am going fishing Disciples: We will go with you. Narrator: They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Just

after daybreak, Jesus stood on the beach; but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them,

Jesus: Children, you have no fish, have you? Disciples: No. Jesus: Cast the net to the right side of the boat, and you will find some. Narrator: So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in because there were

so many fish. That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, Disciple: It is the Lord!

Narrator: When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on some clothes, for he was naked, and jumped into the sea. But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, only about a hundred yards off. When they had gone ashore, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish on it, and bread. Jesus said to them,

Jesus: Bring some of the fish that you have just caught. Narrator: So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, a

hundred fifty-three of them; and though there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them,

Jesus: Come and have breakfast. Narrator: Now none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” because they

knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time that Jesus appeared to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

Reflection—Where is my focus? (adapted from Ready to Go Devotions by Mark Ray)

After the Resurrection, Jesus didn’t immediately ascend into Heaven. Instead, according to Acts 1:3, he remained on earth for forty days. The Gospels record some of his post-Resurrection appearances, among them his appearance on the lakeshore in John 21. The way John tells the story, seven disciples led by Peter had gone fishing. Despite trying all night, they hadn’t caught a thing. Then, just as morning broke, a man shouted to them from the shore that they needed to throw their nets in on the other side of the boat. They followed his advice and immediately caught more fish than they could haul in. Only then did they realize that the man on the shore was Jesus. The disciples’ return to their boats after the Resurrection is no surprise. They had to eat, after all, and fishing was their livelihood. What is surprising is that they didn’t recognize Jesus. This post-Resurrection appearance was not his first; John describes two previous appearances in Chapter 20. Maybe the men were tired from fishing all night. Or maybe they were confused by the past days’ events and focused on one thing they knew wouldn’t change—fishing. Or maybe they didn’t expect Jesus to show up in such an ordinary place. On retreats, mission trips or times of special emphasis we can easily experience the presence of Christ. We experience him in the prayers, songs, devotional time and work projects. We can become “super-focused” on spiritual aspects during these times away from everyday routines. When we return home, we may feel like we’ve left Christ back at a retreat, mission field or special event. Our focus is back to our regular routine—everyday activities. Rather than being a constant presence in our lives, he again becomes just our Sunday-morning Savior. But Christ isn’t the one who’s changed. Hebrew 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Instead, we’re the ones who’ve changed—or maybe just changed back. Amid the regular routine of school, work, sports, and chores, we forget to look for Christ. And so we don’t find him, we don’t see him in ordinary, everyday living.

Prayer Thank God for his loving, individual focus on each of us. Ask God to help you and your family to become more aware of his presence in your daily living.

For Discussion 1. Share about a time when someone recognized you before you recognized that person, or about a time

when you recognized someone who didn’t recognize you. What happened? 2. Take a few minutes to jot down ways you experienced the presence of Jesus Christ at a retreat, mission

trip, or special event. 3. What could you do in your daily life to make him more than just a Sunday-morning Savior? 4. How can the spiritual practices of morning prayer, Bible reading and/or meditation help you see Jesus

in your daily living?

Activity If you can, go fishing with your family or engage in another favorite activity. While doing this activity, talk about your regular routine at home. What things do you do every day? How can you fit in some spiritual practices (daily prayer, Bible reading, devotion reading, etc.) into your routines to help your “Jesus focus”?
