Our organisation has certainly grown and new people continue to arrive in town and come along to events. Thank you all for making those people so welcome. You have all been through the experience of being new, so you know exactly how it feels! The year has flown by. In this newsletter I will outline events for November and December, but I will put out another newsletter before Christmas which will provide details for our regular events. Some of these need to change venues over the holiday season with our usual places being closed. I also have some events already planned for January as I hear so many of you saying how quiet it can be over the holiday period. Check out the photos below from our daffodil picking adventure.

Hello everyone

Can you believe there are now 187 families on the newcomers database? Our organisation has certainly grown and new people continue to arrive in town and come along to events. Thank you all for making those people so welcome. You have all been through the experience of being new, so you know exactly how it feels! The year has flown by. In this newsletter I will outline events for November and December, but I will put out another newsletter before Christmas which will provide details for our regular events. Some of these need to change venues over the holiday season with our usual places being closed. Lunch Out Join us at the Roost Café 30 Thames Street on Wednesday 5 Novem-ber at noon. Please let me know numbers by 31 October so I can con-firm the booking.

Gardens Picnic Meet at 11.30am on Sunday 16 November at the picnic tables by the paddling pools in the children's playground. Bring your food , drink and a blanket. I will bring my cricket set for the older children and I’m sure the little ones will be happy on the playground.

Garden Tour On Tuesday 25 November we are going on a garden tour to a Diana and Phillip Hamilton’s garden at Orore Point at Kakanui. We will meet at 11am in Awamoa Road, close- but not too close, to the public toilets on Awamoa Park. There we will arrange some car pooling. Please bring your lunch, flask, deck chair and the fine weather. We will enjoy the garden and have lunch there before heading to Alison and Neveille Ludemann’s property. We should be back in Oamaru by around 3.30pm.

Christmas Function On Thursday 11 December there will be the opportunity to gather together for a Christmas meal at the Oamaru Club at 6pm. Cost will be $25 per head for a set menu of ham, turkey and hot vegetables, with a choice of pavlova or Christmas pudding for dessert. Nicola Mountain will speak on her recent trip to Rwanda. Please confirm your seat by the beginning of December.

Teschemakers I know there were some disappointed people who missed out on the tour of Teschmakers due to other commitments. Well, we are thinking of going again if we have sufficient numbers. Could you please let me know if you would like to go and also if a weekend or a week day would be most convenient for you. I am happy to organise it if we have at least eight people.

My Blurb I was very lucky to attend a talk by Anna Fraser, a local mother with two young children who has set out on a quest to healthy eating to cure some health issues. I was inspired and wanted to know more. Anna has a facebook page called Nourished By Nature and she occasionally posts recipes and tips on there. She also runs a ten week pro-gramme which guides you through eating chang-es step by step. Some of you have expressed an interest in this and we could look at setting up a group of around ten people to do this course. There is a charge involved, but ask me more about this. The course wouldn't start until next year and classes are held weekly.

The local television station 45 South has been asking if they can come and film at coffee group. They would like to do a piece on our group and interview some people about why they came to Oamaru. Just the usual things we chat about, but with a camera present. Please don’t stop coming along because of this-just look good EVERY time in case they come.
