We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone good health and a prosperous year of the Monkey.

The state of affairs in the Southern California Chapter is as bright as the sunshine in our State. Dr. Albert Young (WYK 62), our President for the last 6 years, has passed the baton to the capable hands of Gavin Lam (WYHK 75) in 2004. Thanks to Albert’s sage advice, tireless efforts, proper guidance and brilliant leadership, our Chapter has experienced a surge in membership, raised funds for needy scholars, and unlike the Golden State, even avoided deficit spending in the last few years.




In response to the financial needs of the Jesuit Fathers’ Nursing Fund and the School Development Project of both Schools, our Chapter has started a fund-raising campaign. Thus far, we have raised over US$20,000, with ongoing pledges from charitable alumni coming in weekly. The outpouring of love and support for our Schools and the Jesuit Fathers are unbelievable.




We are also encouraged by the surging attendance in our monthly dinner gatherings. In January, renowned scientist currently working on the Mars Exploration Project, Dr. Edward Wong (WYK 67), gave us a timely and enlightening talk on Mars Exploration. In February, Dr. Dominic Chu (WYHK 73), a noted urologist in Southern California, delighted the 20+ attendees with a lively and informative talk on men’s health.




In June, our Chapter will celebrate the 80th and 85th of WYK and WYHK respectively by hosting a gala dinner. Past Assistant Principals from WYK and WYHK, Messrs Anthony Ho and Raymond Yu, will be our guests of honor in this long-awaited event of the year. Any surplus from the event will be earmarked for the Jesuit Fathers’ Nursing Fund and the School Development Project of both schools.
