Conventional Wah Switch Mod for EurekaProm FCB1010By F. Eckersley

This simple mod adds a switch under the FCB1010 expression pedal so that thewah can be switched in and out like a conventional wah when in effects mode.

I.e. the wah is switched on and off by pressing down at the toe end of thepedal.

It involves wiring a momentary non-latching switch in parallel with footswitch 5,which is the designated on/off switch for wah when the pedal is in effectsmode.

Items needed:

1 x momentary non-latching footswitch (available ebay etc);

2 x 30 cm lengths hook-up cable;

Soldering iron;

solder;

Drill and bit to drill hole for footswitch (in this case 12mm dia).

Steps

- Remove the back of the FCB1010 not forgetting the 6 mini bolts in the centre ofthe plate)

- Locate the solder joints for switch 5, here 2nd from the left, bottom pcp

- Remove the pedal by undoing the 4 small bolts from the inside of the casing. Becareful when removing and replacing the pedal as it has a fragile plastic leaf

which is how the degree of 'wah' is measured.

- Carefully determine where the footswitch will go - bearing in mind that theunderside of the expression pedal is ribbed and the top of the switch will have tosit between the plastic uprights under the pedal.

- Drill the correct sized hole for the footswitch.

- I drilled my 12mm hole exactly 137mm from the right hand edge of the metalcasing (not the plastic edge) and 45mm from the front of the casing. See photobelow showing the footswitch in place:

- be careful not to foul up with any of the existing components;

- Now solder the two flying leads to the pcp and the footswitch as shown in thephoto below:

You can temporarily connect up and do a quick check to ensure that the switchworks at this point.

- Place the footswitch into the drilled hole and tighten up.

- Now comes the 'fiddly' bit; You need to adjust the switch up or down so that it justmakes and breaks contact when the pedal is fully forward (toe position). Theexpression pedal has a thin piece of rubber underneath that might provide somecushioning and help prevent inadvertantly switching the wah on and off byaccident. I chose to add some neoprene rubber to add some extra resistance at theend of the pedals travel - rather like that on a Crybaby. It means that you have to

push hard on the 'toe' end to switch the wah in and out.

- You may need to remove the pedal and adjust the height of the footswitch severaltimes in order to get the perfect feel.

- Before replacing the back panel, test it to make sure everything works.

You're now done! The wah is switched on and off with your foot on the expressionpedal.

PS - I personally would like to see the unused switch 5 in 'preset' mode used toswitch the wah in and out too. Maybe the guys at EurekaProm have consideredthis?
