PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Last Friday our school sent 60 senior students to the MILO T20 Blast School Cup Day in Wagga. Out of all of the teams that competed we have been invited to send one boys’ representative team and one girls’ representative team to compete in the ACT/Southern NSW final to be held in Canberra this Thursday. Many of our students played in teams with students from other schools and I am proud to say that I have received some glowing feedback from other principals commenting on not only the skill level of our students, but their sportsmanship and inclusive way in which they accepted others with varying cricketing experience. Congratulations to all students who participated on the day and thank you to Mr Holloway and Mr Burgess for their organisation of the day.
2017 KINDERGARTEN TRANSITION
This Friday we welcome our 2017 Kindergarten students for their first WWPS transition day. The Kindergarten transition program operates each Friday morning for 4 weeks and provides our new enrolments with the opportunity to become familiar with our teachers, students and school and to experience what ‘big school’ will be like. We look forward to showing them what a great school we have.
This term, our school is participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.
Please have your say by THIS FRIDAY and help us to improve our school for everyone.

Public Speaking Competition
STAGE 3 PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION 2016
Over the last few weeks everyone in Years 5 and 6 have been learning how to write and present speeches. Students selected a topic of their choice and wrote a speech on it. Students then presented their speeches to their class. From there, four students from each class were selected for the semi-final on Wednesday. Congratulations to all students who presented their speeches at the semi-finals on Wednesday:
All teachers scored each speech at the semi-finals and the top 8 speakers have been chosen to participate in the final on Wednesday, 19 October, at 9.30am in the hall. This was an extremely hard decision and all students should be commended on their efforts. Congratulations to the following finalists:
We look forward to hearing our finalists present their speeches again on Wednesday to determine the Stage 3 Public Speaking Competition winner! Good luck to all competing students.

Spotlight
Elijah Cox has been nominated this week for ‘In the
Spotlight’ for being kind and thoughtful towards his
classmates. During the Middle School Concert he shared the
lead role on one of the night performances.
Why did you share your role in the concert?
I thought it was a nice thing to do. Our class voted to choose
who would be the main actors, and Sidney came second. As
my understudy he put a lot of effort into learning our role. I
thought it was only fair that we shared it.
What did you enjoy most about the concert?
I enjoyed acting because it was a lot of fun and it was nice
to see the audience’s reactions after all our hard work and
effort at rehearsals.
How have you helped other students and teachers in your
classroom?
I sometimes help other students when they can’t
understand their work. I encourage my classmates to stay
focused and listen to the teacher. I listen carefully to my
teacher and help her by doing what she asks.
Can you think of some ways others can help keep our school a happy place? They can be nice and encourage each other. It is important to be friendly and be a good sport in the playground. Have you ever been challenged during school?
What did you do?
Sometimes I don’t understand English and Maths. When
this happens I try a few different strategies. I ask my friends,
I think about the task in a different way, I look for clues or I
ask the teacher for help.
What sort of activities are you involved in at school?
What has been your favourite thing to do?
I like Maths and developing relationships with friends.
What would you like to do when you finish school? I’d like to be a masseuse or a scientist. I’ve also been wondering what it would be like to be a teacher.

Cricket News
Last Thursday, the Senior Boys’ cricketers played their PSSA knockout match against Lavington Public School. We went into the match with confidence after our win against Young PS and didn't disappoint. Gus won the toss and decided that we would bat first. A wise decision, as Will M and Ben D set the positive tone early scoring runs quickly and safely going into drinks with wickets in hand. After the break Will and Luke N put on a batting masterclass both having to retire after reaching 40 each. We finished with a strong total of 5/136. Our bowling was dominant and runs were hard to come by as Josh H showed the way with some brilliant fielding! Our captain lead the way with our bowling, taking 4 wickets for 5 runs. Lavington finished the innings at 6/77.
Well done boys! We have now made it through to the final of Riverina PSSA Cricket and are eagerly waiting to see who our next opponents will be.
Mr Holloway
