SCHOOL SCHEDULEBreakfast 7:00–7:25 AM CSTStart of School 7:30 AM CSTTardy Bell 7:35 AM CSTBus Dismissal 3:00 PM CSTCar Rider Dismissal 3:00 PM CST

BUS PROCEDUREThe buses will begin arriving on campus at 6:55 a.m. CST. The students will unload from the buses once

faculty/staff members are present and on duty at 7:00 a.m. CST.

We would like to keep our students safe on their route to and from school. Therefore, students must obey their bus drivers and conduct themselves in a way that does not create disruptions for the driver. If students violate the Code of Conduct they will face suspension from the bus according to Lee County Policy and Procedure Handbook-rules and consequences. Please help keep our students safe by teaching them the rules of bus safety and appropriate conduct.

New students riding the bus must be picked up from home by the bus at least one time in the morning before riding home in the afternoon. This enables the driver to be familiar with the child, where they live, and to ensure their safety. Please note: Students who desire to get off the bus at a stop other than their own must have parental permission in writing, approved by the principal or assistant principal. Once, the students are loaded on the bus in the afternoon for dismissal, they will not be taken off of the bus. Please stay at the bus stop with your child until they board the bus each morning. Please make sure an adult meets them at the bus stop each afternoon to ensure their safety.

CAR RIDER PROCEDURESAll students may arrive on campus at 7:00 am CST. All Car Riders will enter the school parking lot at the furthest entrance from Wacoochee. As you pass the school on the left, it is the last entrance past the field. All students should exit the vehicle on the passenger side ONLY. For the students’ safety, they should not cross over in front of cars. Once the student exits the vehicle, they should walk immediately to the sidewalk and enter the building. All cars are asked to pull up as far as possible before allowing students out of the car. This will allow us to unload more cars and help end congestion when we close the line at 7:30 a.m. CST. If you arrive after 7:30, someone needs to park and walk his/her child into the building.*A CAR IS TO NEVER PASS A BUS, AS IT IS A VIOLATION PUNISHABLE BY LAW EVEN ON THE SCHOOL CAMPUS.

TARDIES

IF YOUR CHILD ARRIVES IN CLASS AT 7:35 A.M. CST HE/SHE WILL BE COUNTED TARDY. Parents are required to check their child in at the school office before going to class when they arrive on campus. Children should arrive at 7:00 a.m. to allow time to get to class, put items away and be ready to start class at 7:30 a.m. The car rider line will closed at 7:30 a.m. Thank you for helping to ensure that your child is here on time and ready to learn each day.

STUDENT DISMISSAL

Each child should know before he/she leaves home what he/she is to do after school . Teachers should be advised in writing of any changes on transportation. If your child is to be picked up please come through the car rider line. Be sure your child’s name is displayed in the front windshield passenger’s side of your vehicle. Please help us expedite traffic flow by following and staying in the designated car pickup line. Excessive tardies, check-outs, and absences are reported to the Truancy Officer.

Note: If you need to check your child out before dismissal, please do so by 2:00 p.m. CST. Students need to remain in school for the entire school day. Parents or guardians may pick up students when necessary during the school day. To reduce the loss of instructional time, we ask that check-outs be limited. Picture ID will be required when checking a child out of school. Students who check out prior to 11:15 a.m. CST will be marked absent. Students who check in after 11:15 a.m. CST will also be marked absent. For the safety of all students, no child will be released from class for check out until a parent/guardian arrives on campus.

BUS DISMISSAL Bus students will load at 2:50 p.m. CST and exit campus at 3:00 p.m. CST. Car riders will load immediately

after the bus riders and leave immediately after the buses. If a child must be checked out in the afternoon, please do so before 2:00 p.m. CST. You must sign them out from the office. Buses cannot be held for check outs. Staff will be stationed throughout the campus to monitor student transition and to ensure safety.

CAR DISMISSALParents may begin arriving on campus for car rider pick up after 2:00 p.m. CST. The line will begin moving after

the buses leave campus at approximately 3:00 p.m. CST. All students should be picked up before 3:10 p.m. CST. Any student picked up late will have to be signed out in the front office. Students who are regularly not picked up on time will be referred to the after school program or the local Department of Family and Child Services. If you are late more than 2 times, the student will be placed in our after school program ($10.00 fee will be charged each day). Please read the following instructions with care if your child is a car rider. Your careful attention and cooperation will be appreciated.

1. Car pickup will begin only after the buses are loaded. For the safety of you and your child, please do not park your car and get out to pick up your child. All car-rider students will be escorted by a teacher to their pick-up station. Note: If you have an emergency and need to pick up your child from the car rider line, you must go into the main office and secure a check out slip. NOTE: Parents are not allowed to wait in the halls for student pick-up. This is for the safety of everyone.

2. There are designated places for each grade level beginning with Kindergarten, then 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and then 1st. Enter the driveway single file. You will be directed to the appropriate pickup station.

3. Please look for your child in his/her designated grade level area..4. All car rider students must be picked up before 3:10p.m. CST. It will take a little longer the first week of school due to the heavy

traffic. For the safety of our students and staff, do not exit your car and try to retrieve your child/children.5. Once your child is loaded in the car you may exit the campus following the car in front of you. Please do not get out of line and pass.6. Buckle Up. All children must be buckled up. Please teach your child to buckle his/her own seat belt.

*The traffic congestion at the beginning of school is very high. The first 2 weeks of school, car pick up is slow while students and parents adjust to the procedure. Please be patient with us. We will all work together to move traffic as smoothly and as quickly as possible.

TRANSPORTATION CHANGESEach parent/guardian is encouraged to choose one major mode of transportation (bus rider, car rider, day care van, or extended day) for the student to use in the afternoon. Changes in a student’s major mode of transportation for the afternoon must be made in writing. This will help to prevent any afternoon mishaps in placing the students on the wrong mode of transportation for the afternoon. Please make plans ahead of time regarding changing your child’s afternoon transportation. Send a written note to your child’s teacher in the student’s binder in the morning. You may follow up the written note with a phone call to the teacher.

PERSONAL PROPERTYYour child’s name should be written inside all book bags, coats, caps, gloves, lunch boxes, etc. This helps us return lost items. Please discourage your child from permitting friends to wear their personal items . Please do not allow children to bring large sums of money, toys, electronics, or other valuables to school. The school assumes NO responsibility for the items brought on campus. All items placed in lost and found will be donated to charity at the end of each nine weeks.

Extended Day (Before and After School)

This is an additional service for the parents and children of Wacoochee Elementary School. The cost is $50.00 per week for afternoon and $20.00 per week for morning. The times are as follows: 6:15-7:00 a.m. CST. and 3:10 -5:30 p.m. CST. Detailed information and a registration form will be provided at parent orientation and on the first day of class.

SCHOOL ILLNESS AND MEDICATIONS If a child becomes ill at school, parents will be called to pick the child up. For this reason, it is necessary for the school to have two emergency phone numbers where parents can be reached during the day. Notify the school in writing if any telephone numbers change. If there is no home phone number, the name and telephone number of a relative or neighbor who is allowed to check the child out should be provided to the school.

Parents are required to have a Medication Administration Form on file in the school office before any school staff member will be authorized to administer medication. THIS FORM MUST BE SIGNED BY THE CHILD’S DOCTOR AND PARENT BEFORE ANY PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE IS GIVEN AT SCHOOL. A parent’s signature is all that is required for over the counter medicine. All medicine must be in its original container with the child’s name on it. No student is allowed to carry his/her personal medication at any time. ALL MEDICATION MUST BE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL BY THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN, NOT BY THE CHILD. No medicine is allowed on the bus. Your child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school (See the Lee County School’s Student Handbook). If your child is taking an antibiotic for a contagious infection (Strep, etc.), they must have ingested the medication for 24 hours before they can return to class.

WELLNESS POLICYWacoochee Elementary School is committed to providing a school environment that promotes and protects our students’ health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity. Please help us in this endeavor by following the guidelines below when bringing snacks or drinks for your child’s classroom to share. The complete Wellness Policy is available on the Lee County Website, www.lee.k12.al.us as well as in the Lee County Student Handbook.

No food or beverage items that have high fructose corn syrup or sugar listed as the first ingredient. (This does not include birthday cakes/cupcakes for school parties).

No chocolate or other candies. Only 100% fruit juice, 1% milk, or sports drinks limited to 12 ounce containers. No carbonated

drinks are allowed during the school day. Due to children with food allergies, all items must be factory packaged with an ingredients

label. No homemade items can be served to students.

For more information, please refer to the Lee County Schools’ Student Handbook.

Physical EducationAlabama law requires that every elementary school student have 30 minutes of physical education per day. To fully benefit from these activities, students must be appropriately dressed. We do not ask our students to “dress out” for class; however, we do ask that our

students wear clothes that they can move in. This includes tennis shoes, comfortable shirt and shorts, pants, sweat pants, or other non-restrictive clothing. If your daughter chooses to wear a

dress or skirt to school, we ask that she bring/wear a pair of shorts to slip on under her dress/skirt. This is to preserve the modesty of your child as she participates. Your child will

receive a physical education grade each nine weeks.

Behavior Guide

Students are expected to follow the Discipline/Code of Conduct rules as stated in the Policies and Master Discipline Plan for Lee County Schools which is contained in this handbook. In addition, the following rules apply:

Faculty PolicyOur faculty believes that students acquire self-discipline through learning appropriate behaviors and conforming to school rules. Self-discipline, demonstrating a variety of appropriate behaviors, and obeying rules play an important role in the development of students who perceive themselves as successful, confident, respectful, and who are motivated to learn. Our faculty intends to manage student behavior and does not anticipate the need for office referrals except for major offenses. Our faculty believes that appropriate behaviors can be appropriately taught and learned. Our faculty believes that an educationally sound Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Program provides for rewarding appropriate (good) behavior and eliminating negative (bad) behavior.

1. Our faculty has established a rewards-based PBS Program.2. Student participation in the rewards program will be earned by each student through

their practice of appropriate behavior and obeying the established rules.3. Behavior calendars will be sent home for parents to sign and return daily. 4. Students who exhibit positive behavior will receive the following rewards: verbal

praise, stickers, happy-grams to take home, special treats, or extra privileges.
