1. W2K8 R2 SERVER / VOLUME PRESENTATION PROCESSThe section discusses the basic process that we use to connect a Server to the 3PAR and present LUNs. We are going to discuss the provisioning for W2K8 R2 Servers.
The basic process to add a client to the SAN and present 3Par volumes is:
1. Plan Configuration.
Plan what you’re going to do:
# LUNs, GB, RAID Type, CPG, Thick/Thin, RAID Type, Zoning
2. Configure Storage:
Create CPGs (or use an existing CPG).
Create TPVV on CPG.
3. Prepare the Server:
Identify WWNs, driver version, etc.
Install Host Explorer.
4. Zone the client HBA to the 3Par Node Port Pairs as described in Section 7 above.
This will cause the Server HBAs to login to the Node Host Ports.
5. Create Host on Array:
Select Persona.
For W2K8/R2 we use Persona 1.
Connect Host to HBAs.
6. Export VVs to Host.
7. Discover Storage on Host.
Scan Disks.
Set up MPIO.
The rest of this section describes this process.
1.1. Plan Configuration.Plan what you’re going to do:
# LUNs, GB, RAID Type, CPG, Thick/Thin, RAID Type, Zoning
1.2. Configure Storage:1.2.1. Create CPGs.
This process has been described in Section 10.
From GUI select “Array Name” > “Provisioning” > “Create CPG”.
![Page 2: W2K8 R2 Server / Volume Presentation Process · Web viewZone the client HBA to the 3Par Node Port Pairs as described in Section 7 above. This will cause the Server HBAs to login to](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022071115/5ff05f3df503de414e302ddc/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
(You may choose to use existing CPG.)
Select:
CPG Name
Allocation Warning
Growth Warning
Growth Limit
Device Type
Device Speed
RAID Type
Check “Show advanced options”
Availability: Cage
Disk Filter: Mel says ignore.
Here is a picture of the Summary Screen for a CPG Create:

1.2.2. Create TPVV on CPG.Select Array > Provisioning > Create TPVV
Select:
TPVV Name

Set Name (if used)
Check “Show advanced options”
Next
The next screen sets up “Copy Space”.
o If you’re not going to make “Copies”, then set “none”.
o If you’re going to make “Copies” then you’ll probably want a NL CPG for this.
Here’s the “Summary Screen” for TPVV Creation:

1.3. Prepare the Server.1.3.1. Identify WWNs.
Use the W2K8 “Storage Explorer” to identify the WWNs.
Start > Search > Storage Explorer
Figure 3 - Windows Host Explorer
This gives us the WWNs and the Driver Version
I’m going to have to upgrade HBA Driver.
1.3.2. Upgrade HBA Driver. We have placed the new Driver, 9.1.9.16, in the ESM Team Share.
Copy to Server and install.
Do NOT reboot. We’ll reboot later.
1.3.3. Install Host Explorer.Install Host Explorer from Storage Team Share on Server.
1.4. Zone the client HBAs to the 3Par Node Port PairsThis was described in Section 7 above.
This will cause the Server HBAs to login to the Node Host Ports.Let’s look at the “Cabling / Zoning” picture again.

1.5. Create Host on Array:Select “Host” from lower left pane on Inform GUI.
Select “Create Host”:
Name
1.5.1. Select Persona. Persona:
o Select Persona from:
W2K3: 1
W2K8: 1 or 2 W2K8/R2: 1
Descriptors is Optional
o Host Explorer will fill this stuff in.

1.5.2. Connect Host to HBAs. In Fibre Channel Window, select WWNs and slide to left.
o Because we have already zoned HBAs, they will populate right window:

1.6. Export VVs to Host.Select “Provisioning” in bottom left panel.
Select “Virtual Volumes” in top left panel.
Select “Unexported”. VVs appear in top right panel.
Select VV in question > Right Click > Export.
Select Host to present to.
Leave Port set to <none>.
Set LUN to “Auto”. (Check “Auto” box.)
Finish.
1.7. Discover Storage on Host.1.7.1. Discover Disks.
Select:
Computer > Manage > Server Manager > Storage > Disk Management > Rescan Disks
![Page 8: W2K8 R2 Server / Volume Presentation Process · Web viewZone the client HBA to the 3Par Node Port Pairs as described in Section 7 above. This will cause the Server HBAs to login to](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022071115/5ff05f3df503de414e302ddc/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Disks will appear 4 x times in Disk Manager, once on each path.

1.7.2. Set up MPIO.MPIO may already be installed on W2K8 and W2K8/R2.
If not, then we will have to install it.
1.7.2.1. Verify MPIO Software Installed 1. Check for MPIO installed on Server.
Start > Admin Tools > MPIO
If it’s not there, then you need to install it.
1.7.2.2. Install MPIO Software Start > Admin Tools > Server Manager > Features > Add Features > Multipath I/O > Next > Install
1.7.2.3. Set up 3PAR MPIO Definition There are 2 ways to do this. Do one or the other.:
![Page 9: W2K8 R2 Server / Volume Presentation Process · Web viewZone the client HBA to the 3Par Node Port Pairs as described in Section 7 above. This will cause the Server HBAs to login to](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022071115/5ff05f3df503de414e302ddc/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Commands
GUI
1. Commands:
# ocsetup MultipathIo /norestart
# mpclaim –n –i –a “”
# mpclaim -e
Figure 8 - verify MPIO
A reboot is required after this command. I would reboot now.
2. GUI:
Start > Admin Tools > MPIO > MPIO Devices > Add > “3PARdataVV”
OK
![Page 10: W2K8 R2 Server / Volume Presentation Process · Web viewZone the client HBA to the 3Par Node Port Pairs as described in Section 7 above. Figure 9 - Add "3PARdataVV" to MPIO
This reboots the Server.
1.7.2.4. Verify After the server reboots check the “MPIO Policy” assigned.
Server Manager > Diagnostics > Device Manager > Expand Disk Drives > Select a 3PAR Disk > Properties > MPIO Tab

The default policy should already be “Round Robin”. If not change it.
Here’s another way to verify:
