Find your Passion
I’m writing this column just a few hours after attending the funeral for Nicholas Arieno. Nick was a 2013 Athena Graduate as well as a recent graduate of our Young Entrepreneurs Academy. Losing someone when they are young is always hard, but even more so for someone like Nick, who was so full of life. His family asked me to share a few words about him at his service. Below is an excerpt of what I shared: At the end of the year, we have our students write a letter to future YEA! students to encourage them along in the program. Nick’s letter captures his spirit perfectly, please allow me to share his words with you: Congratulations on being one of the lucky few to make it into the illustrious Young Entrepreneurs Academy. As a former student of the program I would like to impart some of my vast knowledge and wisdom on to you. First off, in this class, if you really want to get something out of this class you need to be willing to put in the effort that is demanded of you. The more time you invest the greater benefit this class provides you. Second, make your business something you are passionate about. If you do, then it won’t seem like work. And lastly, pay attention to what the guest speakers say, they have so much good advice to give that is bound to help you succeed. Nick loved the Young Entrepreneurs Academy and was immensely proud of what he accomplished – as he should have been, it was very impressive. I, like all of you, was shocked and very saddened to hear of his passing earlier this week. 18 years is far too young and Nick was so full of life and enthusiasm that it feels especially difficult. But I also share with you, from the bottom of my heart, that I am inspired by the legacy of Nick’s life. How do I remember Nick? Passionate. Undaunted. Confident. Enthusiastic. Kind. Nick means something different to each of us, but I would venture to guess that we would all agree that he was a passionate young man. It’s hard to find meaning in tragedy, certainly, but I hope we will all find meaning in Nick’s life. Take his advice -- Find your passion. Live with passion. Go confidently down the path where your passion lies. If we learn that from our friend Nick, then I believe wholeheartedly his legacy will live on and influence countless lives for years to come.

Electronic Business Books on the
Kindle!
D o you own a
Kindle? The Kindle
is a great electronic reading
resource, but many people are
not aware of the fact that the
Kindle Store is a terrific
resource for business. You can find books on almost
any business related topic. Many of them are written
by business owners and expert professionals. A
journey through the Kindle Store includes current
books on communications, management, leadership,
investing, entrepreneurship, social media, and more.
You will also find many industry specific books. The
best part is most are extremely affordable (far less
than print) and some are even free. Once you have
made your purchase or selected a free book, it can be
downloaded to your Kindle and on your computer
(once you have downloaded the free Kindle app). If
you are an expert of a particular field and wish to
share your knowledge, look into writing and
publishing your own Kindle book. There is a wealth
of information on how to do that on the Kindle site.
Through the year you might just find me reviewing
some of these electronic books in our own Greece
Chamber’s SuccessLink Journal. - Terry Hogan
