The final Summer Ladies Bible Class on the Gospel of John will meet this Tuesday, August 27th. All ladies are invited to join us for class and lunch following. Then on Tuesday, September 3rd, we will resume our regular season ladies class studying the book The Pearl Seeker. Please see Gail

Adams if you have questions.

Can’t Swim, But Does

The Byram River in Greenwich, Connecticut, at the crest was running twelve to fifteen feet deep.

A family picnicking at the edge watched in horror as their two-year-old daughter fell into the water. Her 23-year-old mother, who could not swim and was horrified by water, jumped in and pulled her little girl to safety.

The headlines the next day said, “Mother Who Couldn’t Swim, But She Does, and Saves Daughter.”

Provided the proper motivation, we all can do far more than we believe we can. Many who are afraid of water have been baptized for remission of sins (Acts 2:38). Some who are afraid of public speaking have become preachers of the gospel (Romans 10:14–15). Some timid souls have won many to Christ (Proverbs 11:30). A lot of folks who thought they could never serve Christ effectively found a spark of zeal and love and become great workers.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13 -House to House Heart to Heart

Homework Club resumes Tuesday, August 27th. Over 30 children, K-8th grade, are registered to attend. Thank you to everyone who volunteers to help with this outreach! If you are not currently helping but would like to, please see John Johnson.

The Red Coat box for the student

support bag projects is in the lobby. Items that you can donate towards this project

are pencils, crayons, colored pencils, notebook paper,

rulers and various individually wrapped snacks. Thank you

for the support on this project.

Love,Spencer Hall

Greetings to each of you. I had the wonderful opportunity to go to Polishing the Pulpit this past week and want to share a few things with you. There were around 5,300 people that attended. I am thankful that some of our brethren chose to go, and I would encourage each of you to consider this event in the future. It’s not just for preachers, and there are classes for all ages. I think the highlight of this year’s PtP was to hear Don Blackwell speak on Tuesday Night as he talked about his

accident that occurred in May. He has only been out of the hospital three weeks, and I was amazed at the outstanding job he did. His lesson is on YouTube, and you can search it by putting in his name and Polishing the Pulpit. I hope you will take time and listen to his heart touching story of the accident and how God is using he and his wife as they deal with the pain and suffering.

I also had the good fortune of being able to talk about our work in Hiawassee. It was encouraging to know that there are people interested in mission work in Georgia. Hopefully, I will be traveling on Sunday and Wednesday evenings to tell congregations about the work in Hiawassee.

This past Lord’s Day we had 30 in attendance. It was good to have Edith Hensley along with her son Tim and his wife Mary, come worship, support and encourage the brethren at Hiawassee. I hope you will visit with us in the near future.

Because of next weekend being Labor Day weekend, Phoebe Dunn, family counselor, will be here the second Sunday of the month instead

of the regular first Sunday.
