DAILY NOTES/PRACTICE
Introduces a concept
Practice without penalty!
ABSENT? ‘Absent Work’ folders at the door Copy missing notes = before or after school Instruction/Reteach = before or after school
CLASSWORK/HOMEWORK 40% OF GRADE FOR ALL COURSES
The Class/Homework your child brings home will not consist of a lot of problems.
The goal is QUALITY, not quantity.
A student’s work must be shown in order for credit to be given. [NO WORK = NO CREDIT] My goal is to teach your child to think and reason within the math curriculum.
This IS for a grade.
CORRECTIONS on Class/Homework…Expectations after we grade papers, #1: Correct his/her mistakes– regardless of
the grade.
#2: Confirm the problems they got right were “on purpose”, not on accident!
If a daily grade is below a 70%, work can change the grade to passing (70%).
However on papers 70% or greater, corrections alone will not change your child’s grade…
TESTS60% OF GRADE FOR ALL COURSES After a handful of concepts have been taught,
there will be a short assessment (test) over the material for your child to celebrate his/her knowledge of these concepts.
WHEN this grade is higher than the assignments over the same concepts, I will replace the previous grades with the most current one which most accurately reflects your child’s understanding of the curriculum. [This will occur at the end of the grading period.]
If the test grade is lower than the homework grades, all grades will remain the same.
Expectations after tests are graded and recorded, Correct each mistake using the Error Analysis
format (which can be found on my website and in their ISN).
Again - make sure problems they got right were “on purpose”, not on accident.
Half Credit will be given for each problem they originally missed, if evidence is shown that they now understand the concept(s).
On tests whose original grade is less than 40%, if all corrections are done accurately, the grade will be changed to 70%.
“Corrected” tests do not change daily grades.
CORRECTIONS FOR TESTS…
END OF GRADING PERIOD TEST …CONTINUED
Students will take a Six-Weeks’ TEST over all curriculum taught during that period.
Again… WHEN this grade is higher than his/her current average, I will raise the previous average to the Six-Weeks’ Test grade. Then, THIS grade will reflect your child’s understanding of the curriculum for the grading period.
If the test grade is lower than his/her previous average, I will not allow the test to lower the average a letter grade.
SO… MY CHILD IS PRETTY MUCH GUARANTEED TO PASS?!? As long as your child is trying, he/she will pass
my class.
Frustration is a part of the learning process. But, he/she can’t give up. Plus, I will be here to help all along the way.
Learning is a process and it takes making mistakes – these are learning opportunities!
Everything your child will do in and for this class is for learning. That’s the bottom line.
THANK YOU FOR COMING!
I LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOUR CHILD (AND YOU!) THIS YEAR!
