Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country. He began to

teach in their synagogues and was praised by everyone. When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the

Sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where

it was written: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the

synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in

your hearing.” (LK 4:14-21)

God of all,you gently call us each by name.As we enter into our journey of preparation and attendance at the Australian Catholic Youth Festival set us on a path to your kingdom.May we find new strength in you; in sharing our unique stories, through the gift of witness.Let us together, be a beacon of hope; rediscovering the riches of diversity within our culture and tradition.Coming together from across this land of the Holy Spirit;challenge us, inspire us and strengthen us, to live out your Good News.May we faithfully declare, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me” in union with your Son, Jesus.

Amen.

FOLLOW THE LEADER…

- Anointed & Sent, ACBC, 2009.

PREPARING FOR THE FESTIVAL

Page 24: W ELCOME O PENING P RAYER Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through.

• Each group leader should prepare their group for the upcoming festival.

• This festival will not only provide fun and motivational experiences but also deeply religious ones as well.

• Young people often need time to prepare themselves for such experiences in order to receive the most of it.

Page 25: W ELCOME O PENING P RAYER Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through.

SEE - Finding out exactly what is happening in a situation?

JUDGE - Applying our faith to the situation and developing an idea about what we are called to do.

ACT – Deciding what we can do to change or see happen in this situation in the way that our faith and beliefs are calling us to. Remember, it is not a true Review of Life unless the actions are carried out!

PLANNING IS IMPORTANT…

• Planning and formation with your team is crucial.• It is not only important to prepare them to receive the

most out of the festival, but it is also imperative that as a team you work cohesively and prepare for the logistics of the festival.

• There is no booking system.• First in best dressed events process.• Therefore, during the preparation you need to take

note of what your group needs and what your group wants in order to build a schedule that satisfies those demands.

• They provide opportunities for communal prayer, catechesis, and music in rich and engaging ways. Such large gatherings provide powerful experiences that can deeply impact the lives of young people.

Privacy

By signing the Code of Conduct you are giving permission for any photos or video footage of yourself and your group to be used for the future promotion of the Australian Catholic Youth Festival by the ACBC or Host Diocese.

This does not allow us to use the photos so if you could please acquire the consent form from COYYA in order for us to promote the future ACYFs in our own Archdiocese.

Page 65: W ELCOME O PENING P RAYER Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through.

Media

There will most likely be some media around. There are assigned Festival photographers and press, but mainstream media might be around the place wishing to report on the festival.

Participants are advised to avoid the media if possible. If they wish to discuss the positive experience of the ACYF then that’s fine, but be aware that the media can often misrepresent statements after editing.

The main issue to be of concern is the current Commission and Investigation into Child Sex Abuse in Victoria as well as nation-wide.

Page 67: W ELCOME O PENING P RAYER Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through.

THE FOLLOW-UP…The follow up to the festival is extremely important in maintaining the young people’s enthusiasm and spiritual formation which began at the festival.

Do not delay…

Try and organise something the week you return and organise something regular as well. The regularity of routine is comforting to young people and will be rewarding in providing constant opportunities to build programs, events, projects or activities here following the festival.

Page 68: W ELCOME O PENING P RAYER Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through.

THE FOLLOW-UP…What sort of projects/activities/events/programs would you like to see in the Adelaide Archdiocese following the festival?

How can the Archdiocese and COYYA help you to make this happen?

How should we keep in contact with you following the festival?

Page 69: W ELCOME O PENING P RAYER Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through.

FINAL PRAYERLoving God,

mentor and model of compassion. As you call me into ministry with young people,

Bless me with tenacity, to ask the tricky questions;patience, to hear each story, told from the heart;

strong shoulders, for others to lean on;support, to bear heartbreak;

courage, to make the hard decisions;daring, to challenge the status quo.

As I walk your path with young people infuse me with your love;so that I may foster each unique soul to love and be loved and to

grow in faith;through encounters with your Son, Jesus Christ.

Amen.
