HOW CAN I HELP MY CHILD AT HOME?o Expect your child to listen to you & comply to directions the FIRST
time.
o Have your child in bed by 8:30 p.m.
o Give your child a balanced breakfast.
o Expect your child to read nightly and do it as a family.
o Supervise homework – check, but allow your child to fix errors
o Practice vocabulary, math facts, and spelling nightly.
o Expect him/her to remember what was learned in class.
o Expect neat, carefully done work.
o Model how to help your child deal with challenges and stress.
o Limit the use of video games, TV, and computer games.
o Support the teachers and school by giving additional consequences at home.
o Don’t bail your child out. Allow him/her to have the consequences that are a result of HIS/HER behavior or lack of responsibility.
o Celebrate real, genuine progress and success.
