This Week: Jesus Saves, Give Thanks
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, In All Circumstances, Give Thanks! It can be difficult to recognize the good things in
life and therefore, it can be difficult to give thanks for that which we fail to recognize as coming from the hand of God. In his Second Letter to the Thessalonians, St. Paul reminds us of this most important task: to give thanks in all circumstances. In each of our situations we should be seeking to identify the hand of God in all that we do and experience. In recognizing Divine Providence in our lives we should quickly increase in our recognition of all the good things that we experience. Reminder from my homily last weekend, to pray this simple prayer throughout the day: “Lord, increase my faith.” Jesus, Master! Have Pity on Us! In our Gospel reading this weekend, St. Luke tells us of the journey of Jesus through Samaria and Galilee. Upon entering a village Jesus encounters ten lepers who say to Him: “Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!” To this, Jesus tells

the lepers to go to the priests in town and as they go about seeking the priests the ten lepers are healed of their leprosy. Of the ten lepers who are healed, only one returns to Jesus to give Him thanks for the healing. How often do we call fervently on the name of God for some grace - for the removal of some suffering, but then as soon as it is gone, it is as if we forgot that it was through our faith in Jesus Christ that we received such healing? Place yourself in this story as one of the lepers. Are you the one that returned to give thanks to Jesus or are you one of the nine, who gladly goes on his way after having received what he desired without any sign of appreciation to our Lord? (“Lord, increase my faith.”)
Uniting in Heart 2030 In the Diocesan Pastoral Plan, Uniting in Heart 2030, the Bishop is proposing that we be grounded in three pillars. These pillars are meant to strengthen the diocese (parishes, schools and institutions) in vitality and vibrancy. Last week, I wrote about Pillar 1- Mission and the importance of our encounter with Jesus, deepening our relationship with God and sharing our encounter with others and growing holy vocations. Leadership Vitality & Vibrancy Providing lifelong training and development for
priests, as well as providing ongoing professional development for staff and lay leaders to be good stewards of our parishes.
Safe Environment We protect minors and vulnerable persons entrusted
to our care at all times. Please pray for our Bishop, priests and parishes to be open to the Holy Spirit. We want all of our parishes to have vitality and vibrancy. I want to Give Thanks for so many parish community events at our parish this past weekend. For all those who led and participated in Adorathon, Alpha Retreat, Family Based Faith Formation, and Life Chain. (“Lord, increase my faith.”) Please look for photos on our website.

Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Pray for us!
This week, I would like to present Pillar II – Community (1 Cor. 12:27-31) for your discerning heart. Faith is a gift and the three pillars are meant to help us open our hearts and minds to the good news of Jesus and His Church to help us grow in faith. Parish Vitality and Vibrancy Fostering parish and school vitality through adequate
and quality resources of all types, including sufficient finances and physical facilities, as well as capable leadership.
Our renewal efforts must focus on new ways to create vibrant parish life, especially in the areas of Religious Education and Adult Faith Formation, which would foster the seven signs of parish vitality. This includes a deliberate planning and discernment process that addresses needs of the community, supporting pastoral initiatives through sharing best practices, and helping support sustainable operations.
School Vitality & Vibrancy Ensuring our Catholic schools achieve strong school
mission vitality by focusing on their Catholic identity, as well as engaging today’s youth, enhancing the academic offerings, and promoting the ongoing development of school leaders.
