5.3. a320 Throttle Controls
AutoThrottleAutoThrottle System (A/THR), using inputs from the FMGC, controls thrustbased on airplane speed, altitude andconfiguration. The throttles do not move whenthe Autothrottle System is in use. The systemis armed in flight by pushing the A/THR switchon the FCU when the throttles are not in theengagement range.
Transmit signals to the FADEC, whichcomputes and displays the thrust rating limitand EPR. The throttle can only be movedmanually. There are five lever positions defineby stops or detents: Reverse Idle, Forward Idle, Climb (CL), Continuous Thrust (FLX/MCT) and TakeOff / Go Around (TO/GA)
Autothrottle Disconnect Switches ( RedButtons )When pressed, disconnects the autothrottlesystem.
Select Reverse Thrust by overriding the stop
fitted at the FWD IDLE position. The stop isreset when the throttle is selected back toforward thrust.
Pitch Trim WheelsProvides mechanical control of horizontalstabilizer trim. Trim wheels have priority overelectrical control. Use of trim wheels does notdisconnect the ELACs, as the overridemechanism ensures that the computers remainsynchronized with the manually selectedposition.
Trim wheels must be utilized when pitch directlaw is in effect.
Pitch trim is automatically reset to 0 followingtouchdown as the pitch attitude becomes lessthan 2.5°.Trim Position ScalesIndicate trim position in degrees. Normal rangeis marked by a green band.CG ScalesIndicate relation between CG location andpitch trim setting prior takeoff
