Transverse Waves
• displacement perpendicular to wave motion
![Page 3: W A V E S](https://reader038.fdocuments.in/reader038/viewer/2022100600/55571560d8b42a067f8b45bb/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Longitudinal Waves
• displacement parallel to wave motion
![Page 4: W A V E S](https://reader038.fdocuments.in/reader038/viewer/2022100600/55571560d8b42a067f8b45bb/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Parts of a wave

Constructive Interference
• When crests and troughs combine, amplitude increasesbigger waves
(IN PHASE)
![Page 6: W A V E S](https://reader038.fdocuments.in/reader038/viewer/2022100600/55571560d8b42a067f8b45bb/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Destructive Interference
When crests and troughs meet, they cancel each other out smaller waves
OUT OF PHASE

Speed of a Wave
• Velocity-speed at which the wave is traveling• Frequency-number of times a wave passes a
point per second• Wavelength-Length of wave from crest to crest
or trough to trough
Velocity = Frequency x Wavelength
