THURSDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY

Pastor Bill’s class continues with a focus on Isaiah. Isaiah is one of the most

quoted books in the Old Testament and opens up our understanding of the

history of Israel and the identity of Lord Jesus Christ.

Dec 7: Isaiah 41:21-29; 43:1-7, 14-21

Pastor Bill’s Adult Sunday Education

This month (December) we’ll examine more of Luther’s writings during the 30’s and probably finish up with the class in January. Never too late to plug in if you haven’t before. Here is a link to the prior recorded classes: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHC84xkxadKdjmymqDoJCtKqzLhRrTjIB.

THREE NEW BIBLE STUDY GROUPS

Luther encouraged everyone to read and know God’s

Word. Learn and grow together in a Bible Study group.

Three new groups are being planned to begin early in the

new year. Groups are still being planned and will be a 6

week walk through the Serendipity Bible Study. Further

details will be provided once planning is finalized:

Bible Study group will meet in the Kingston/Indianola

Area. Day/time TBD

Kerygma Bible Study Group (details below) will meet at SLC in the early

evening, on Tuesdays. (Ideal time 6:30 – 7:45pm)

Bible Study group will meet on Wednesdays (early evenings) at SLC.

Please indicate your interest and preference on the Ministry Card. If you have

questions, please email Darcy [email protected]

Kerygma Bible Study Kerygma is an adult Bible study that promises a deeply satisfying encounter with

Scripture, whether long familiar with the Bible or opening for the first time. The

program’s purpose is to promote and facilitate responsible and effective study of the

Bible. What better way to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation than

to delve into the book that Luther considered of prime importance to our faith!

If you have any questions about this group, please contact Debbie Slaton. Cell

phone: (360) 271-3223. Please call between 6 & 8pm

Tuesday Morning Prayer (schedule change)

Due to the Bishop’s Eucharist on Tuesday, December 5, we will be cancelling morning prayer. However, we will resume our weekly prayer sessions utilizing Holden Evening Prayer on Tuesday, December 12th. All are invited and we welcome you to join us!

PASTOR BILL’S FOUNDATIONS CLASS (formerly Basics Class) —

Pastor Bill will be holding his Foundations Class for new members or folks that want to re-new their faith starting early next year (Jan. 14, 21, 28 & Feb. 4) from 12:30pm—1pm. Ideally, we would like to have at least 12 people as a minimum.

If interested, please check the ministry card or contact the office at: [email protected]

CONNECTING MORE PEOPLE TO CHRIST What a wonderful way to “Connect More People to Christ” with our recent Beer Passports in support of Martha and Mary. I sold about a dozen of the passports to my unchurched beer drinking friends. In addition to information of the participating breweries, there was some great information in the passports regarding Martha and Mary, participating Lutheran churches, and Reformation 500. Several of my friends asked me why I was Lutheran, several read with interest about Martin Luther and the Reformation, as well as the history of Martha and Mary. I found it was an easy way for me to share my faith with friends, and hopefully plant a mustard seed. In Christ, Rick Cotter

Fall/Winter Event Planning Fall/Winter Event Planning

A Christmas favorite returning for 2017! The statues in the downtown nativity scene have come to life, but don’t know what they’re doing or exactly who they are. When a drunken, homeless woman invades their Christmas crèche her interpretation of the nativity story

irritates and reorients the statues. Laugh along with familiar characters in this Christmas comedy about forgiveness, selflessness and the joy of giving. Show run time is 35 minutes.

SLC IS HIRING!

Time & Talent Connector & Program Ministry Assistant (formerly Ministry Coordinator) - We are now accepting applications for our Ministry Coordinator position as our current Coordinator, Darcy Lund will be stepping away from that position in Mid-December. We are splitting the position into two, 10 hour a week positions, although it is possible that both positions can be filled by the same person. You may apply for one or both of the positions. The two positions will be a “Time and Talent Connector” and a “Program Ministry Assistant.” The Time and Talent Connector will exclusively focus on leadership and volunteer development. The Program Ministry Assistant will focus on providing detail and task support for pastors and staff.

Nursery Supervisor - Our wonderful Nursery Supervisor, Lisbet Sanchez ’s family is moving. We need a new Nursery Supervisor to Manage our Nursery. The job is part-time (20 hours per month). The primary duties include hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising the nursery attendants; coordinate with church staff for special events; keep the nursery stocked with supplies; and perform supervisor administrative tasks.

Position descriptions for all open positions are available in the narthex. Applications are available in the narthex or online at: http://silverdalelutheran.org/hiring/

SLC CHRISTMAS PROGRAM

SUNDAY, DEC 17, 5:30pm “In Bethlehem Inn”

Caesar Augustus has called us all to travel to Bethlehem to be counted on December 17th at 5:30pm. SLC will be transformed into the Bethlehem Inn, and those present will be the firsthand observers of the events that occurred on the night Christ was born. We are the guests – the travelers to Bethlehem 2,000 years ago, and will be hosted by the innkeeper, Eli Merriman, played by (Ken Day) and his family.

A warm bowl of soup and fresh bread will await all travelers during this “dinner theater” style event. Please add your name to the role in the narthex and the number in your party to make your reservation at the inn.

VANCO Payment Solutions & Thrivent

Did you know that you can give to SLC electronically through eCheck (also known as Simply Giving), or via Debit or Credit Card Transactions? See below details for each giving option and associated fees:

eCheck (Simply Giving) - In the past, many utilized the program first supported by Thrivent, then Vanco, called “Simply Giving.” In this method you submitted a canceled check and had your monthly offering deducted automatically. Now, you can do the same thing via the eCheck option on our website. The eCheck option is preferred by some because it is easier to make changes than in the Simply Giving program and also, just like with Simply Giving, there are no additional fees per transaction.

Credit/Debit Card Giving—We can also accept debit/credit card transactions via a VANCO-hosted webpage accessed through SLC’s website. This is a very flexible and convenient way to give to SLC, but please keep in mind there are fees involved (about 2.65% + .38 per transaction). There is a checkbox available to allow folks to give a small additional percentage to help the church offset the fees for processing the cards. We appreciate your help and suppor t involved with the processing fees. See below link to our website and steps to donate:

1. Visit the church website at www.silverdalelutheran.org 2. Click on the green [Donate] button (located near the bottom of the homepage) 3. Click on the Create Profile button, then,

Follow the onscreen instructions to create an online profile and to make a one-time donation, schedule recurring contributions or to pay for an event at SLC.
