VTOS is a Navan based full time programme which provides educational opportunity to students who are all over 21 years of age, and who have been in receipt of a social welfare payment for more than 6 months. Students may avail of a training allowance, meal and travel allowances and free child care dependent upon eligibility. You may also be entitled to work up to 20 hours per week outside of class time during this course. What courses can I do? There are several options open to you. All our courses are full time, running Monday to Friday, 9.30 – 4.30 each day How much does it cost? – Course s in VTOS are free, and all books, class materials and exam fees are paid for the duration of the course. What will happen to my Social Welfare payments if I go on a course in VTOS? – If you are in receipt of Job Leaving Certificate – Students participate in a full leaving Certificate (5 subjects) & Critical Writing skills classes delivered by an NUIM lecturer. This is an ideal progression route into third level education or employment. Students have a range of subjects to choose from including Maths, English, Spanish, Biology, Geography History and Physics. Students also benefit from guidance, mentoring and CAO workshops throughout the course. What will happen to my Social Welfare payments if I go on a course in VTOS? – If you are in receipt of Job Seekers allowance or benefit, your payment will be made instead through VTOS into your bank account each week. If you are receiving a lone parent or disability payment this will not be affected by coming to VTOS. If you are concerned about this talk to Margaret Deegan, VTOS Coordinator who can help you.

This is an ideal progression route into third level education or employment. Students have a range of subjects to choose from including Maths, English, Spanish, Biology, Geography History and Physics. Students also benefit from guidance, mentoring and CAO workshops throughout the course. This course is suited to people who have already reached this level of study before and either have not completed the exams, or did not do as well as they had hoped. If you have already completed a FETAC/QQI Level 5 major award this course may also suit.

VTOS UNISTART -UNISTART is a full time college access course which offers learners real potential for progression to college and third level education. Students will be taught to develop critical writing skills, time management, teamwork and research and study skills. They will have access to extensive guidance in course selection, and CAO application. Also included are IT and learning platforms skills, college open day visits, mock interviews and direct contact with Access Officers from a range of Universities and Colleges. There are 2 options to choose from depending upon which area of study you wish to follow in third level. – Science or Humanities. This course has been hugely successful, with more than 85% of our students getting college places.

UNISTART Science - Past students who followed this course are now successfully studying and following third level courses in; nursing, digital media, computer science, mechanical engineering, psychology, mechatronics, physics and environmental science, pure science and a whole range more. Students will study Maths , Physics, Biology at Leaving Certificate level, and Research and Study skills and Personal and Professional development at QQI Level 5 along with CAO Preparations, IT for college, Interview preparations and a range of other subjects.

UNISTART Humanities – Past students from this course are now successfully studying the following courses at third level; Arts, Social science, teacher training, music and music

General Learning (FETAC/QQI Level 4) provides a full Level 4 award and preparation for progression to the Leaving Certificate or Cloud Computing programme. This course will allow you to study a wide range of subjects including Communications, Maths, Spanish, Biology, History, IT, Occupational First Aid, Work Experience, Personal Interpersonal Skills and much more. This course is suited to those who have completed Junior Cert/Group Cert level in school and want to get a good foundation knowledge before moving on to Leaving Cert or Level 5 Fetac/QQI courses.

VTOS CLOUD COMPUTING – Cloud computing is an Information Technology based course incorporating a full FETAC/QQI Level 5 General Studies award. The course introduces the concept of Cloud computing and develops student knowledge in all aspects of Cloud Technology. The course is focussed on progression and employment within the IT Sector, with links to higher level education in many colleges. This course is suited to people with good IT Skills and higher Secondary School completion or previous FETAC/QQI Level 4 or 5 awards. Many students on this course have secured employment in full time and part time positions, and there is excellent scope for those interested in starting their own business. This course is highly recommended for anyone intending on studying Computer Science at third level. Subjects may include, Internet, Web Authoring, Digital Media Communications, Maths, Personal and Professional Development, CompTIA, Cloud essentials and work experience.

VTOS E-Business and Digital Marketing – This is a Business Technology based course incorporating a full QQI Level 5 E-Business award. It is designed to allow students to gain a solid knowledge of the principles and practice of e-business and digital marketing. The course is focussed on progression and employment within the business sector, with links to several third level colleges. The course is suited to those with an interest in business and technology, those interested in starting up their own business and to people who have completed higher Secondary School education or FETAC Level 4 or 5 awards in other areas.
