• Understanding School Boards in a Democracy• Building Our Team• Improving Communication
• Each course is 4 hours in length and is designed to be interactive.

Understanding School Boards in a Democracy• Foundational course
• Explores the purpose of the board of education
• Looks at concept of the “good life” in schools & communities
• Focuses on values that serve as basis for decision making
• Discusses skills needed for boards to solve public problems

Building Our Team• Second course in the core
• Identifies characteristics of effective teams
• Examines board’s style as individual team members
• Determines factors that influence trust
• Explores means of increasing Board/team effectiveness

Improving Communication• Explores difficulties in and barriers to
effective communication

Recognition• Boards who complete the 3 core (Level 1)
courses of the Master Board Training Program will be recognized at the annual conference and will be awarded certificates of completion.
• Awards will also be given for the completion of additional training levels.
