vRealize Business Requirements andConfiguration 1
vRealize Business must meet specific hardware, software, and operating system requirements. You canoptimize the value of the initial hardware and software investments and provide the option to scale up inthe future.
This chapter includes the following topics:
n “Software and Hardware requirements,” on page 7
n “Running vRealize Business in a Virtual Environment,” on page 9
Software and Hardware requirementsYour computer must meet minimum software and hardware requirements to install vRealize Business.
vRealize Business is 100% compliant with the J2EE standard. This allows the product to support a widerange of deployment options.
vRealize Business can be installed on a Windows server and on a Linux-UNIX server such as Oracle Solaris,Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS. In turn, this ability of vRealize Business to be deployed on a wide rangeof platforms ensures it fits rigorous enterprise requirements.
To ensure optimum performance, you must deploy the database server on one computer and the applicationserver on an another computer for vRealize Business installation. The hardware and software requirementsvaries based on the purpose of the computer for installing the database server, for deploying the applicationserver or for end user access.
The vRealize Business deployment includes a database server and an application server. Both componentsof vRealize Business can run on a single computer but this approach is costlier, because a single computerrequires more number of CPUs to run both the database and the application server. You pay for thedatabase license per CPU. If you have a site license for the database management software, you can use asingle computer to run both database and application servers. In a production environment the systemneeds a server for the database and a separate server for the application server.
System requirements for production environments are higher from those for development environments.

Applicationserver
Apache Tomcat (7.0.57 embedded)n For the Apache Tomcat application servers, the installer contains the 7u76 JDK , which is suitable in
a 32-bit Windows environment.n For the UNIX, Linux, or 64-bit Windows operating systems, install the appropriate JDK 7u76 before
running the vRealize Business installer.NOTE Verify that you are using the latest JDK 1.7 version. Any JDK that is not provided by VMwaremust be updated by using the most updated TZUpdater tool from the Oracle website. ThevRealize Business installer can use up to latest JRE 7.0 version.
Oracle Client One of the following Oracle database clients:n 11.2.0.3n 11.2.0.4n 12.1.0.1n 12.1.0.2
Some examples of models for production database servers are IBM System x3850, Dell PowerEdge 2950.
NOTE Application servers and database servers can run on a VMware virtual environment as well as on thephysical configurations. When you create a virtual environment, use the virtual equivalent of the guidelinesin these sections. vRealize Business application server needs to be in the same LAN as the database server inorder to get the best performance.
