Installing the NNM Integration Module Server-Side Components

Install the Server-side Component of the NNM Integration Module by running the Generic SNMP Integration Module.

1. Refer to the EMC VoyenceControl Integration Modules Installation and Configuration Guide document for Generic SNMP Integration Module installation instructions.

2. During the installation, the system prompts you to enter the name of the product you are integrating with. Enter NNM at the prompt.

Installing the NNM Integration Module Client-Side Components

Introduction You will be installing the NNM Integration Module Client-side Components. This provides the capability to view properly formatted SNMP traps sent from the NNM Integration Module Server-side Components, as well as launch the VoyenceControl Graphical User Interface from Network Node Manager.

Prepare for installation To install the client-side components, you must have a properly configured Network Node Manager

installation. Refer to the Network Node Manager Installation documentation for those prerequisites.

You must have a properly installed and configured Java V1.4.1 (or higher) environment. Use the java -fullversion command to determine the Java version currently installed. The client-side components do not require any additional hardware requirements beyond those required by the Network Node Manager and Java installations.

You should have a properly configured VoyenceControl server available. Note that you will not need a User ID or password to complete the installation.

It is advisable that you shutdown all Network Node Manager services prior to installation. During installation, several additions are made to the trapd.conf file. By shutting down the Network Node Manager services, you can ensure there are no resource contentions during the installation.

1. Change the directory where you placed the installer file. 2. Type: chmod 755 VoyenceControl_x_x_x_yyy_HPNNM_Client.bin to change the permissions on

the installer file to allow execution (Unix only), where x_x_x stands for the version number, and yyy stands for the build number.

Run the Installer (Unix) 1. Type the following command from the directory where you placed the installer file:

VoyenceControl_x_x_x_yyy_HPNNM_Client.bin, where x_x_x stands for the version number, and yyy stands for the build number.

2. Respond to each activity displayed on the Install Wizard. 3. When the installation is complete, you can delete the installer file to recover disk space. 4. Note that to view the documentation as part of the post-installation steps you must have the following

browser available in the PATH environment variable, based on the platform you are installing: Unix - Netscape

Linux - Mozilla

Run the Installer (Windows)

1. Select Start->Run from the task bar, and select Browse. 2. Navigate to the directory where you placed the installer file, and double-click

VoyenceControl_x_x_x_yyy_HPNNM_Client.exe, where x_x_x stands for the version number, and yyy stands for the build number.

3. Select OK. 4. Respond to each activity displayed on the Install Wizard. 5. When the installation is complete, you can delete the installer file to recover disk space.

Uninstalling

1. To uninstall the client-side components, issue the following command (preferably from a directory other than <install_dir>): <install_dir>/_uninst/uninstaller

2. After the uninstaller has completed successfully, manually remove the VoyenceControl Alarms category, and the launch VoyenceControl additional action, via the VoyenceControl user interface. This manual step is required, as the Network Node Manager does not provide a programmatic or command-line means for removing categories and additional actions. The following steps will remove the NCM Alarms category:

On Solaris

1. Access the Event Configuration dialog box from any Alarm Browser window (Actions:Configure Event), or from any submap (Options:Event Configuration).

2. From the Event Configuration menu bar, click Edit:Configure:Additional Actions. The Additional Actions window appears.

3. Select the Launch VoyenceControl NG additional action, and then click Delete. 4. In the Event Configuration window, click File:Save to save the changes.

On Windows

1. Access the Event Configuration dialog box from any Alarm Browser window (Actions:Configure Event), or from any submap (Options:Event Configuration).

2. From the Event Configuration menu bar, click Edit:Additional Actions. The Additional Actions window displays.

3. Select the Launch VoyenceControl NG additional action, and then click Delete. 4. In the Event Configuration window, click File:Save to save the changes.

Note: If you do not complete these steps and re-install the client-side components, the VoyenceControl Alarms category and the Launch VoyenceControl additional actions that exist in the trapd.conf file from the previous install are reused.

NNM Integration Module Client-Side Components

Introduction You have already installed the VoyenceControl Network Node Manager (NNM) Integration Module client-side components.

This provides the capability to view properly formatted SNMP traps sent from the NNM Integration Module server-side components, as well as launch the VoyenceControl UI from Network Node Manager.

VoyenceControl Traps Details of the VoyenceControl trap definitions can be inspected by selecting Options->Event Configuration, and then the Voyence Enterprise. This provides the complete list of Events.

VoyenceControl Events As part of the client-side installation, a properly formatted VoyenceControl event configuration file is loaded into the existing trapd.conf file, via xnmevents -load. This process creates Event blocks for each of the supported VoyenceControl traps.

Each Event block includes a directive to have the Event displayed in the VoyenceControl Alarm category, a default Event severity, a format directive that ensures that the Event is displayed in an easy-to-read format, and SDESC section that provides additional details regarding what can cause the Event to be received, along with instruction text.

Details of the VoyenceControl Event definitions can be inspected by selecting Options->Event Configuration, and then selecting the HP Enterprise. This provides the complete list of Events.

VoyenceControl Launch There are two methods to launch the VoyenceControl UI:

Method 1 involves selecting the Tools-> VoyenceControl menu item. This method launches Network Configuration Manager to the default initial view. You will be required to provide a valid user name and password on VoyenceControl UI startup.

Method 2 involves invoking an additional action on a VoyenceControl event that has been received in the Alarm Browser. After highlighting the desired event, select Actions->Additional Actions, from the Alarm Browser menu, and then select Launch Network Configuration Manager. The current version of the installation will also launch VoyenceControl to the default view.

Event De-duplication The client-side installation includes an event de-duplication configuration file found under <install_dir>/conf/dedup.conf. This file contains all the correct de-duplication rules for each VoyenceControl SNMP trap event.

To de-duplicate any VoyenceControl events in Network Node Manager, one or more items from this file can be added to the dedup.conf file of the Network Node Manager installation, using your favorite editor.

Typically, the Network Node Manager dedup.conf file can be found in the following locations:

On Solaris

/etc/opt/OV/share/conf

On Windows

c:\Program Files\HP OpenView\NNM\conf

Note: For NNM 7.5.x on Windows, the path is: c:\Program Files\HP OpenView\conf.

It is recommended that if the VoyenceControl Network Node Manager Integration Module has been configured to listen for the AuthorizationSucceededEvent, the voyenceEventUserAuthorizationSucceeded event be de-duplicated, as this event occurs often during normal VoyenceControl usage.
