B1. Introduction B1.1. The AIS type classification has been converted to the DECC (formerly BERR) Methodology “Vessel Types involved in Navigational Activities - Example Checklist”, reproduced below (Ref. i).

B1.2. It is noted that the DECC list is not comprehensive, for example, it does not include explicit categories for vessels such as Ro-Ro and Wind Farm Support. Where this is the case, marine knowledge has been used to classify vessels, e.g., Ro-Ro vessels classified as “Medium Vessels – Ro-Ro” and Wind Farm as “Other Operational Vessels – Wind Farm”. A number of other additional categories were also included.

B2.2. The majority of vessels were other operational vessels followed by medium vessels. B2.3. Excluding wind farm and oil and gas traffic, the overall percentage distribution of ships passing within 5nm of the Project during the 42-day survey period based on the general (top-level) DECC categorisation is presented in Figure 2.2.
