function and safetyThe Volvo 7700 is a low-floor bus with a wide centre aisle and an entirely flat, easy to clean floor all the way to the wide doors. This per-mits swift and convenient passenger movement on board and there-fore shorter standstills at bus stops. Boarding height with the kneeling function activated is a mere 250 mm at the front doors and 270 mm at the other doors. The body is reinforced at the front and sides, offering enhanced protection in the event of a collision.

coMPact drive unit The electric motor’s high power output allows a smaller and more eco-nomical diesel engine to be fitted. In Volvo’s hybrid bus, a 4-cylinder 5-litre Volvo diesel engine producing 210 hp is used. The engine is installed vertically in the left rear corner, just as in the rest of the Volvo 7700 range. Since the D5 is a compact unit, there is space for the electric motor in line together with the I-SAM.
