ACTIVE DRIVER ASSISTUsing a combination of advanced radar technology and a windshield-mounted camera, Active Driver Assist helps drivers be alert to slower-moving or sta-tionary vehicles. If the distance suddenly decreases between the truck and a vehicle ahead, the system will sound an alarm to alert driver response and, if the driver does not respond in time, can apply brakes, reducing the severity of a crash or preventing it altogether.

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING This safety system uses a windshield-mounted camera to track road markings. If the truck begins to drift, audio and visual alerts warn the driver to get back into the correct lane.

DATA CAMERAA windshield-mounted, wide-angle camera is available. Relevant driver and vehicle performance data is collected by the camera when a trigger event occurs—such as excessive braking, lane changes without a turn signal, excessive curve speed, and extended loss of tracking. Video is captured for later download.

FORWARD COLLISION WARNINGVolvo now offers enhanced forward collision warning. A red light appears in the wind-shield to alert the driver if the vehicle sensors detect slower or stationary objects ahead and can automatically apply emergency braking if needed to assist the driver.

INNOVATION OF THE 3-POINT SAFETY BELT & ONLY OEM WITH DRIVER-SIDE AIRBAGSince 1927, safety has been the guiding principle for everything Volvo builds. Volvo invented the three-point safety belt and were the first to introduce it as a standard feature in trucks. Immediately recognized as a significant safety innovation and because Volvo wanted this technology to benefit all mankind, they released the patent. Today the 3-point safety belt is a worldwide standard. Volvo also introduced the driver-side airbag and are still the only truck manufacturer to include it as standard in every vehicle they make. For added rollover protection, Volvo offers the Rolltek® seat, combining seat belt pre-tensioners, automatic

seat lowering to increase survival space, and an integral side airbag that deploys for head and neck protection.

FIRST TO RELEASE HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL CAB, RAISED FOOT PEDALS & OTHER ENERGY ABSORBING ELEMENTSVolvo was first to introduce the all-steel cab in 1956. Today’s Volvo cab uses galvanized high-strength steel, which provides three times the strength-to-weight ratio of aluminum. Built to exceed the demanding Swedish Cab Safety Test, Volvo’s High-Strength Steel (HSS) cabs have the industry’s highest strength-to-weight ratio, protecting the driver by absorbing as much crash energy as possible with its energy-absorbing steering column and wheel. With Volvo’s flared frame rails, the engine and transmission sit lower, improving forward visibility and providing a more stable center of gravity. In a frontal crash, they are also designed to absorb energy from the impact and drop to the ground, deflecting that energy away from the cab interior and occupants. Floor-mounted pedals present another hazard during a crash, and have resulted in breaks or other injuries to feet and ankles. Volvo was the first to introduce raised foot pedals in commercial trucks. This not only provides a more comfortable, automotive-like driving experience, but greatly reduces risk of injury.

ENHANCED STABILITY TECHNOLOGY (VEST)By continually monitoring operating parameters, VEST detects imminent loss of control, jackknife, or rollover events. The system automatically reduces engine torque and selectively applies braking to help keep the truck on course.

I-SHIFT AUTOMATED MANUAL TRANSMISSION I-Shift takes away the physical and mental demands of changing gears, which reduces driver fatigue and provides more time for the driver to give full attention to surrounding traffic.

LED LIGHTINGTo improve visibility and reduce maintenance, Volvo employs LED bulbs for all ex-terior and interior lighting. All models feature LED high/low beam headlights, as well as LED turn, marker, and parking lamps. The premium headlamp also features a “signature” LED daytime running light.

ADAPTIVE LOADINGAdaptive Loading features a basic traction mode that stabilizes your trailer during loading and unloading, and an enhanced traction mode that automatically provides unmatched traction on steep grades or in hazardous conditions.

Since day one, East Penn has made safe recycling an everyday practice. East Penn opened its doors as a battery rebuilding company almost three quarters of a century ago. Today, the company has never stopped building on its expertise, infrastructure, capabilities, and commitment. This continuous commitment has made the company the most progressive manufacturer in environmental protection and technologically advanced battery recycler throughout the entire industry.

The centerpiece of East Penn’s commitment to the environment can be found in its product stewardship principles that include a continuous product life cycle approach. At our state-of-the-art recycling facility, East Penn processes approximately 30,000 batteries per day. Its computer-controlled, closed-loop system, co-located with its manufacturing facilities, recycles virtually 100 percent of each spent battery received for processing. Each of the three major battery components (lead, plastic, and acid) are safely recycled and used in making new energy storage devices.
