Mission Direct supports local sustainable community projects. Our partners will make sure whatever you help to build will be put to great use for many years to come.

21 homes for families who lived in shacks made of trash.

9 new classrooms for children in Africa – each child desperate

for education.

A maternity unit for the poorest mums-to-be in India.

A refuge for girls fleeing the horrors of trafficking and FGM.

When you come on a Mission Direct trip, we provide:

ReturnflightsfromtheUK

Insurance and visas

In-country travel and accommodation

Food and water

Entryfeesforculturaloutings

OrientationanddebriefdaysintheUKtohelpyougetthemostfromyourtrip

And the suggested trip contribution (excluding gift aid) covers every aspect of your stay except personal purchases or donations. We also prepare you for the trip with a special orientation day and a handbook full of good advice.

As well as your contribution, we encourage you to raise funds for your project. This money enables the purchase of building materials and pays for local labour. Every penny you raise goes direct to the project.

A Mission Direct trip gives you the chance to bring lasting changetosomeoftheworld’spoorestpeople.

Here’showitworksYou come with us on a two week trip overseas. You work alongside local people and help build, renovate or decorate your project in the mornings and visit a number of community run projects in the afternoon.

You will make a huge difference by investing two weeks in helping some of our world’s materially poor. No building experience is required as this is led by local builders.

In just one yearLast year, people like you helped to lift hundreds more people out of poverty. Here is just some of what they helped to build.

Do something amazing!

All trip details were correct when Go! 2016 went to press. However, working in some of the poorest parts of the world requires us to be flexible. For this reason we sometimes have to make some changes to the itinerary. We may need to change the accommodation, visits or the building project. If you book a Mission Direct trip we will keep you informed of any significant changes. To check the very latest details about any trip, go to our website www.missiondirect.org.

While we welcome all donations, please note that credit cards do incur a processing fee.

The Open Hands Project is run by local people. They build houses to re-home people from the favelas and help them get work, training and education.

You will be helping to build one of these new homes; maybe you’ll lay some bricks, or lend a hand with the plastering and painting.

Rest and RelaxationEverything you have heard about Brazil’s beaches is true: miles of white sand and crystal seas. Take your fancy sunglasses and pretend to be a film star for a day or two.

In the afternoon you will get to help and visit a number of community projects in the region.

Example visit: CEIFAR is a remarkable Christian rehab centre. You will meet men and women battling alcohol and drug addiction. They will tell you about their lives – get ready to hear some mind-blowing testimonies of God at work!

Cambodian pastor Sara Sansy felt called by God to build somewhere better for some of these people. Communities away from a world of drugs, disease and prostitution. A life away from the margins.

Go to: Build communities forthefuture

Formoreinfoandbookingvisitmissiondirect.org/cambodia

The projectWith the help of Mission Direct volunteers, Pastor Sara’s Fellowship of Hope has built two community centres that provide education, medical care and training facilities for the local people.

You will be expanding one of the two Fellowship of Hope centres allowing Sara to move more people into a place of safety.

Rest and RelaxationIf watching the sun rise over the ancient Angkor Wat Temple isn’t on your travel to do list, add it immediately. It’s a breathtaking sight and so are the temple ruins themselves. The exotic food and drink will also add to your experience.

Go! Cambodia

In the afternoon you will get to help and visit a number of community projects in the region.

Example visit: We visit a local slum district. You will get to wash the hair of some of the residents, in an act of service that you are likely to find deeply moving.

Go! Dominican Republic

Onlyashortdrivefromthebeautifulbeaches,isanothersidetoTheDominicanRepublic.Rowafterrowofshacksmadefromrubbish.‘Homes’withnowaterorelectricity.

These slums house families hoping to start a new life. But while they live in the slums, their lives are on hold. Hand them the keys to a new home and a fresh start.

The project

Samaritan Foundation builds villages of low cost homes to re-house the families who are living in the slums. So far it has built over a thousand homes along with churches, schools, clinics and community facilities.

During your stay you will help with the building and painting work. It’s simple stuff and there’s lots of teamwork which is great fun. It’s even possible that you will be able to help move a family out of their shack and into their new home – an emotional experience.

Rest and relaxationYou will be staying in a lovely quiet guest house with its own pool. You will also have time off to enjoy the beautiful palm-lined beaches and maybe go snorkelling in search of dazzling tropical fish.

Example visit: Spend an afternoon supporting an amazing lady who has welcomed disabled children into her home. You can play games, sing songs and forge an understanding with the kids that goes beyond words. Many volunteers describe this visit as a highlight.

Family SpecialThis is an ideal trip to bring children on, ages seven upwards. There’s a relaxed atmosphere and lots of chances to meet and play with other children. It’s great fun, but also an eye-opener for young people, as they see how others, less-privileged than them, live.

Many young girls are married off after a gruelling initiation ceremony.

There are lots of boys who find themselves living on the streets, sleeping on rubbish heaps. Come to Kenya and show these young people that you care for them.

The project

You will be working with our partners in Narok, building places of safety for the children of the Maasai Mara. You will get to build a place that they can call home, where they have a sense of belonging and where they can then dream of a brighter future.

Rest and relaxation

End your trip with a safari in the world famous Maasai Mara game park. It’s one of the finest game parks in the world! Be amazed to see herds of zebra and lots of lions. The park is not just a fantastic place to visit for wild animals but beautiful exotic birds too. There’s also the chance to get close – but not too close – to the hippos on a boat trip.

In the afternoon you will get to help and visit a number of community projects in the region.

Example visit: You can visit families and individuals with HIV/AIDS. They are often too weak to provide for themselves. Bring them a parcel of food, and spend time talking and praying with them.

Many patients come to the hospital to receive their treatment, give them somewhere safe to receive this precious care.

The team will be making the Outpatients’ Unit ‘fit for purpose’. You will be re-tiling a leaking roof and fixing the rotting walls.

In the afternoon you will visit outlying villages with the Palliative Care Team, offering care and compassion as well as letting them know there is a place to come where they can receive medical attention. Previous volunteers have been deeply moved by these visits.

During your trip you will visit the majestic Taj Mahal. You may even see a tiger on safari - from your safe vantage point atop an elephant!

The Yawo are desperate for the next generation to be educated. Then at last they can escape poverty. Help to build the school and offer more children the opportunity of an education.

Mission Direct volunteers have helped to build a block of four classrooms and the first grateful children have begun learning. You will help to put up a second block – expect lots of light construction work.

No distractions: You will spend most of the day on the building site, so if you want to get lots of work done, this is the trip for you. The biggest distraction will be the local kids themselves, playful and utterly charming.

You will take a couple of days out to swim and unwind on the shores of the picturesque Lake Malawi. Oh and you can reach out into the night sky and almost touch the stars!

Moldova is the poorest nation in Europe.

That is why it has become a centre for traffickers. Vulnerable young people are lured into prostitution and modern day slavery.

What would it take to get them to say ‘no’ to traffickers? Anything from care and counselling to a new set of curtains. Come and give young people a reason to stay safe.

The projectYou will be working with local partners on projects that give young people a safer future. The work could be refurbishing a building to turn it into a ‘safe house’ or a community centre. Or you could help redecorate a rundown family house to make it feel more like ‘home’.

Rest and RelaxationYou will spend time in the historic capital Chisinau and will have opportunities to explore the markets, coffee shops and a beautiful monastery that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the afternoon you will get to help and visit a number of community projects in the region.

Example visit: Visit an old people’s home and undertake craft activities or run a series of children’s workshops. Spend an afternoon at the Psychological Art Studio; develop your artistic skills whilst working alongside women attending an art therapy session.

The project

A lot of school buildings in Uganda are in poor repair. Many more are basic affairs with cow dung floors and no windows. You will either be building new school facilities or renovating some in desperate need of a makeover.

In the afternoon you will get to help and visit a number of community projects in the region

Example visit: You will visit a remote village and help to renovate a thatched hut for a vulnerable household. Learn to plaster with mud and build a new roof from branches and grass; it’s a life skill you will never forget.

It is right next door to the mainstream school, so that both groups can learn and play together – that’s a powerful statement about equality. Be prepared to build a classroom, dormitory or kitchen.

Rest and relaxationAt the end of your trip you will join a wonderful boat trip on the Kazinga Channel, which links the two great lakes. Prepare to see elephants, hippos and water buffaloes along with some exquisite birdlife – binoculars are a must!

In the afternoon you will get to help and visit a number of community projects in the region.

Example visit: Spend an afternoon at a Life Skills Clinic where mothers bring their disabled children. You will spend time getting to know some of the mums and their children. Many volunteers describe this visit as a deeply moving highlight of their trip.
