Volunteer with Art relieves Poverty

Support Art relieves Poverty in the Philippines! We are looking for volunteers from a wide-range of backgrounds and experiences. The only requirement is enthusiasm for what we do and an appreciation of art as a tool for social change.

As a volunteer you can expect to play a large role with our project. This requires you to be self-starting, motivated and dependable. You need to be able to work well on your own as well as within a group and enjoy being involved in creative projects.

You will be responsible for organizing art workshops and other creative activities for large groups of children and you will be encouraged to implement your own ideas and design your own programs during your stay. There are also many opportunities to work with other local artists. Please understand that the minimum duration for your stay is 2 weeks, as we believe that neither you nor the local community will benefit significantly from a stay shorter than that.

Program Specifics

During your placement you will be working at our main base in Negros Occ. Your tasks will include creating and organising artistic outreach workshops and community exhibitions. You will work with a group of local children from various age ranges and need to make sure your program is accessible for the youngest as well as the oldest. This will sometimes involve managing several activities for the same workshop. You will also be asked to support local schools with classroom assistance and homework supervision.

Apart from volunteering, you will also get plenty of opportunities to explore the breath-taking natural beauty of the Philippines. Made up of more than 7000 islands with flashing white beaches, volcanoes and rainforests, the country is a true tropical paradise and we wish for all our volunteers to be able to experience this for themselves. Therefore, you will be able to participate in organised guided weekend trips will take you to stroll through various other cities, visit the most beautiful nearby islands and beaches, where you will be able to go for swims or enjoy some snorkelling, as well as explore the rainforest or bathe in hot volcano springs.

Program Fee

There is no program fee; you will however have to cover your own expenses (accommodation and food). We will organise accommodation for you and the cost will be calculated according to your requirements (you will be informed about the different options and the respective costs upon applying). Also, you can make a voluntary donation of £50, which will go towards our project, paying for art materials and financial assistance for schooling.

We offer optional additional services, which you can book in advance:

• Airport Transport (from the nearest airport ‘Bacolod’ to our base and/or back)

• Weekly one or two day guided excursions to sights (by boat and coach, including island hopping and city trips for example)

• Tagalog language training

Then email us with details on when and for how long you would like to join us and whether you would like us to book breakfast/ lunch/ dinner with your accommodation. Please also mention if you would like to book any of the additional services. We will get back to you as soon as we can with a calculation of costs letting you know how much accommodation, food and additional services will cost altogether and you are free to make amendments.
