NOVEMBER/DECEMBER, 2013 MEMBER NEWSLETTER COOPERSVILLE FARM MUSEUM & EVENT CENTER
Volunteer Appreciation Month
With Thanksgiving around the corner, we thought it would be appropri-ate designate November as ‘Volunteer Appreciation Month’ and to say and extra ‘thank you’ to our volunteers and donors for all they do. So far, in 2013, nearly 100 individuals have given over 2700 hours of their time to help the Coopersville Farm Museum meet our goals. Our mission statement reads: Inspiring memories of yesterday, serving the community today, preserv-ing stories for tomorrow, and our purpose is to honor farming, agriculture, and rural life. If we put a VERY conservative value of $10 per hour on those volunteer hours, that equals $27,000 you have given in 2013. Many have also donated to the museum items for exhibit and money to help with operating funds and spe-cial projects. Cara Kelly, Christine Scott, and Marv Modderman have contributed more than 300 hours, while Monica Zahm, Thom Eno, and myself have all vol-unteered over 100 hours. Al and Fonnie George, Barbara Gadzinski, Bob & Lois Koch, Annie and Gary Williams, MaryLou Pals, Stan Murray, Kevin Ingersoll, Jack Kolbe, and Alice Spriensma are all fast approaching 100 hours for the year, that we have recorded. Of course many of our volunteers do things behind the scenes to help the museum we may not even be aware of. Between bingo, kids days, Jam Night, and special events, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities available. Budd Brink of Spring Lake donated Ertl Toy Tractors that will soon be on display, along with duplicate tractors that were sold at auction raising over $3,000. This money will most likely be used to repair the roof. Ed Hanenburg is restoring a few of his remaining tractors so that they can return to the museum for exhibition and he also plans to donate a showcase for the Brink Tractor Collection. Ed and Nancy continue to support the museum by contributing a percentage of the interest off a fund they set up with the Coop-ersville Community Foundation. This is a designated fund and it is their choice that the museum be the recipient of these funds each quarter. Approximately 50% of the museum’s operating expenses are covered with these funds. There is also a Coopersville Farm Museum Fund through the Coopers-ville Community Foundation. As this fund builds, we are able to draw off the interest when needed, otherwise leaving it to grow for future needs. Thank you to those who contribute regularly to this fund. Virginia Wasky continues to make generous donations in support of our musicians and the stage project, which she holds very close to her heart. Thank you, Virginia. There are many others who give of themselves to help the museum stay solid. You are appreciated. As we approach the end of the year, please keep the museum in mind for tax deductible donations. Every bit is appreciated and needed to help the muse-um continue to grow and serve our community. Be sure to check with your tax consultant for up-to-date guidelines & rules regarding donations to 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. Simply stated, “We would not be here without you. Thank you.” Lee Ann Creager, Museum Director

$3 admission, kids 3 & under (and members) are free.
Meet our new resident bunnies!
Smokey is a Lionhead born on September 2. As he gets older,
he will develop a mane like a lion, that needs to be brushed
regularly to keep from matting.
Cocoa is a Netherland Dwarf born on September 5. Even
when she’s full grown she will still be
very small, probably not more than
three pounds.
Between our staff, volunteers, and all our visitors, these little
ones are getting lots of love and attention. The more they get
handled when they’re young, the friendlier they will be as adults.
Members are encouraged to visit often to hold them!

Time to decorate Christmas Trees at the museum!
Groups, businesses, and individuals are encouraged to deco-
rate a tree to represent who you are or what message you
would like others to receive.
This beautiful red tree was decorated by Vicki and Stacey
Potgeter in 2012 and was used as the background in many a
photo. Shown here with our very own Corey and Kaitlyn
Landon (Administrative Assistant) on the day they got mar-
ried.
The trees create a beautiful venue for wedding receptions,
family gatherings, and more.
