Admiral Mullen,

Chairman of the Joint

Chiefs of Staff,

announced the biggest

threat facing our country

is our extremely weak

financial condition,

brought on by our

mounting debt and out

of control spending.

America’s future is on the line! There is a lot at stake between now and November. Our fighting men

and women are receiving mixed signals from the civilian leaders inWashington. They have been told to win a war without the number oftroops the military requested. At the same time they have been given adate that they are scheduled to leave by – and that date has beenannounced so even our enemies know about it!

Where is the leadership?

A combination of government and private resources are trying to cleanup the oil spill in the gulf, yet the government refuses to allow othercountries with advance cleanup techniques to help us.

Where is the leadership?

Admiral Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, announced thebiggest threat facing our country is our extremely weak financial con-dition, brought on by ourmounting debt and out of control spending. Hesaid in 2012 the interest payment on our debt will be over $500 billion, orabout the same as what it costs to pay for the entire defense budget!

Where is the leadership?

AMAC is responding by circulating a petition to reduce the Federalbudget by a minimum of 10%. Join the 40,000 Americans who havealready signed. (You can sign our petition online. Visit www.amac.us)

Amac has sent a letter to the five Governors of the Gulf States callingon them to appoint aDisaster Controlmanager to coordinate the cleanup. We suggested they ask Mitt Romney to fill that job.

Amachas supported the people of Arizona by encouraging business toschedule their meetings and conventions there. We need leaders to uniteus - not to divide us!

People are joining AMAC by the thousands. Help us grow in size andpower by telling your friends about us.

“Sound Off”Hero – Irena Sendler Irene - Long Beach NY says:

Your story on Irene Sendler wastruly inspiring. A P.S. to that story;in 2007 shewas nominated for theNobel Peace Prize, but it wasawarded to Al Gore. The NobelPrize has lost its luster.

Tea Party Art McIntosh says:

The Tea Party endorsed ChuckDeVore in California, while SarahPalin endorsed another Repub-lican candidate, splitting theConservative vote. This will givethe nomination to (RINO) TomCampbell! How could Sarah (whoI love!) do this?

Sarah Palin M.Hall says:

Sarah Palin should stay out ofCalifornia elections. She has notlived here and does not know thehistory of our State politics andcandidates. Do Californians needSarah Palin to advise them? Theycan read the facts for themselves.

AARP George McElvy says:

AARP is a joke and a rip off. I was amember for 15 yearsuntil I started reading between the lines. They are one ofthe biggest, if not the biggest liberal organization in the

US and have suckered in many elderly folks to keepthem going. No more “AARP” and their SocializedMedicine for me.

 Gail K Lightfoot says:

The most important thing you can do for everyone isprovide a voice for less government and more selfreliance and responsibility by individuals. As long asAARP and the like push for and get more governmentprograms, the less each individual is permitted to do forthemselves. We need to stop now!

Obama MG says:

I agreewithG.R. Bailey, Obamamust be stopped. But it will nothappen unless the people ofthis great country speak upand say “ENOUGH”. Everyonecan do something, if only tohelp spread the truth.

Senate Race 2010 Millian says:

When this all started it was about killing the bill. Now itis about getting the dems who voted for this out ofoffice. That should be the main focus until November. The fight has taken a new direction. Vote them all outand then repeal this destructive bill.

 Kenny Z says:

Whenwill congress stop this idiot! They are responsiblefor approving spending. We are soon to lose our AAArating.Whowould ever have imagined America being adebtor nation - economically a third world country.Remember November, register to vote, vote in theprimaries, and especially vote inNovember. It is vital forthe survival of our beloved America which we lovefundamentally as she was.

As I exited a small café inMassachusetts on a recentweekend getaway, two

women were standing outsideholding signs that read Stop theanti-woman GOP women. (Theywere not far from another femalewearing a poster that read Deathpenalty for Bush/Cheney, amongother delightful messages of

liberal tolerance. But I digress.) I casually walked on bywith my green tea in hand, much like I often do inManhattan when signs with similar slogans give me afine chuckle.Later that day, I heard a woman in a nearby park

talking to a small group of college-aged girls about howimportant it is to make sure Republican women losebig in 2010 and 2012 so that their “anti-womanpolicies” lose, too.“Excuseme,” I said. “What anti-womanpolicies are

you worried about?”“Everything!” she answered. “Those women don’t

care about women’s rights. Plus, they’re not evenwomen. They’re men disguised as women.” I tried notto laugh too hard until I hit the corner.A man disguised as a woman? Well, that would

explainmy hatred ofmakeup and preference formen’sclothing. Andmymomdid callme“her son” from timeto time when I’d do the heavy lifting around the houseand skip shopping in favor of the weight room.I must admit that I was intrigued by what I

witnessed inMassachusetts, by the need thosewomenfelt to rally specifically against Republican women. Why was that their priority? It’s simple: GOP femalepoliticians are currently a force to be reckoned with, and they are setting the stage for big Republican gainsin 2010 and 2012.Nikki Haley, Sharron Angle, Carly Fiorina, andMeg

Whitman have already made great strides. Jan Brewermade a tough decision for Arizona, andmore than halfof Americans across the country agree with her.

Despite the Left’s mission to dismantle MicheleBachmann, I find her to be stronger than ever as sheupholds her conservative principles and takes onObama’s big-government agenda. And, of course, there’s former Governor Sarah Palin, who continues tobe the focus ofmedia-OCDbecause she represents theanti-elitist, pro-life, small-government values thatresonate with so many American families and smallbusiness owners.Be prepared for the female Left to treat GOP female

leaders who are full-blooded conservatives as primetargets through the 2010 and 2012 elections. Be readyfor the likes of the National Organization for Women, the Feminist Majority Foundation, and others, to bearmed with false labels, empty charges, and plenty ofanti-woman this andwoman-hater that. Theywill hidebehind their “feminist” jargon while belittling any andall women who don’t uphold the pro-abortion culturethey revere so dearly. GOP conservative malepoliticians will get their fair share of reproach as well, but nothing gets under the skin of women on the Leftlike iron-willed, unapologetic female politicians whoare pro-life, pro-family, and pro-Constitution.They areviewed as traitors to the pro-abortion alliance and tothe far-Left “feminist” coalition.Thank you to the GOP female leaders who have set

the stage for men and women of all shapes, sizes, andcolors to make big gains for the Republican Party in2010 and 2012. I hope that themajority will be ReaganConservatives. Thank you to Sarah Palin because, despite the fact that you’re too humble to take creditfor any of this, the reality is that you started the enginerunning and continue to play a vital role in sustainingit. And thank you, as always, to somany ladies on the

Left for remindingme just howpowerful women in theGOP can be by being so darn afraid of us every day.

Money

For the remainder of 2010, there is no Federal EstateTax.This is as a result of the Bush tax cuts which aredue to expire at the end of the year. That means thousands of farmers and small

business owners will be able to pass on their farms andbusinesses to their children without the burden ofadditional taxes. It also means that workers who havebuilt up a nest egg can leave money that they earned(that was already taxed) to their families withoutcutting a share to the government.

Some argue thatthis allows “wealthy”Americans to avoidpaying their “fair”share of taxes. Whilethis storyline maymake for easy soundbites, it is factuallywrong. The reality isthat the estate tax isnot a tax on wealth, but rather on capital. To build and

maintain wealth, itmust be continu-ously reinvested ascapital, for examplein real estate, securi-ties, or in a business.

Invested capital is creative capital. It provides a boostfor entrepreneurs to create new businesses and newjobs. Those who do not reinvest their capital will quickly

find it gone - diminishing as it is consumed. What thismeans is that when Americans are allowed to turn overtheir hard-earned money to their families when theydie, their heirs aren’t keeping it under a mattress in abackroom. It’s being used to keep capital flowing to themarket.Plus, it’s not as if this capital hasn’t already been

taxed heavily in the form of income taxes, corporatetaxes, property taxes, capital gains taxes, sales taxesand payroll taxes (just to name a few). No one is gettingoff scot-free, least of all the entrepreneurs, investors, and business owners who create jobs and are thebackbone to rebuilding our economy.

Unfortunately, somelawmakers are lobbying toreinstate the death tax this year orworse, make it retroactive. Others are happily waitingfor the tax to reappear at 55 percent on estates valuedover $1 million, which will take place starting January1, 2011 under current law. This would be bad policy for everyone – wealthy

and non-wealthy alike.A study by the Congressional Joint Economic

Committee found that the estate tax reduces capital by$847 billion over a ten year period. With less capital in the economy, businesses must

hold back on planned expansions and new employeescannot be hired. Two separate studies by the AmericanFamily Business Foundation found that if the estate taxwas permanently repealed, 100,000 businesses wouldbe saved or created and 1.5 million new jobs would beadded to the economy, respectively. When the death tax prevents job creation and

economic recovery, it also delays future opportunitiesfor our children and grandchildren. Indeed, in the caseofmany family business owners, the death tax directlyimpinges upon their ability to pass their business onto their kids. For everyone, the death tax is an obstacleto economic opportunity. The 19th century French writer Alexis De

Tocqueville foresaw these problems, writing in hisbook Democracy in America that the death tax “wouldtake charge of destroying fortunes in each generation, and no one would create new ones. The poor man, deprived of enlightenment and freedom, would noteven conceive the idea of raising himself towardwealth, and the wealthy man wouldn’t let himself becarried along toward poverty without knowing how todefend himself.”Lest DeTocqueville’s words ring true once again, we

have a duty to stand up for inheritance rights and fightfor permanent repeal of the estate tax. Our legacy asparents, grandparents, and American citizens stand inthe balance.Dick Patten is the President of the American Family

Business Institute, a trade association of familybusiness owners and farmers and concerned citizens. You can sign the Death Tax repeal petition and learnmore at www.nodeathtax.org.

Though themango is an ancient fruit heavilyconsumed in many parts of the world, little hasbeen known about its health aspects. TheNational Mango Board commissioned a varietyof studies with several U.S. researchers to helpdetermine its nutritional value. "If you look atwhat people currently perceive as a super food, people think of high antioxidant capacity, andmango is not quite there," said Dr. SusanneTalcott, whowith her husband, Dr. SteveTalcott, conducted the study on cancer cells. "Incomparisonwith antioxidants in blueberry, acaiand pomegranate, it's not even close." But theteam checked mango against cancer cellsanyway, and found it prevented, or stopped, cancer growth in certain breast and colon celllines. "It has about four to five times lessantioxidant capacity than an average winegrape, and it still holds up fairly well inanticancer activity. If you look at it from thephysiological and nutritional standpoint, takingeverything together, it would be a high-rankingsuper food," she said. "It would be good toinclude mangoes as part of the regular diet." The Talcotts tested mango polyphenolextracts in vitro on colon, breast, lung, leukemiaand prostate cancers. Polyphenols are naturalsubstances in plants and are associated with avariety of compounds known to promote goodhealth. Mango showed some impact on lung, leukemia and prostate cancers but was mosteffective on themost common breast and coloncancers. "What we found is that not all cell lines

are sensitive to the same extent to an anticanceragent," she said. "But the breast and coloncancer lines underwent apotosis, orprogrammed cell death. Additionally, we foundthat when we tested normal colon cells side byside with the colon cancer cells, that the mangopolyphenolics did not harm the normal cells."The duo did further tests on the colon cancerlines because a mango contains both smallmolecules that are readily absorbed and largermolecules that would not be absorbed and thusremain present in a colon. "We found thenormal cells weren't killed, so mango is notexpected to be damaging in the body." "That isa general observation for any natural agent, thatthey target cancer cells and leave the healthycells alone, in reasonable concentrations atleast." The Talcotts evaluated polyphenolics, andmore specifically gallotannins as being the classof bioactive compounds (responsible forpreventing or stopping cancer cells). Tannins arepolyphenols that are often bitter or drying andfound in such common foods as grape seed, wine and tea.The study found that the cell cycle, which is the division cells go through, wasinterrupted. This is crucial information,Suzanne Talcott said, because it indicates apossiblemechanism for how the cancer cells areprevented or stopped. "For cells that may be onthe verge ofmutating or being damaged, mangopolyphenolics prevent this kind of damage," shesaid. The Talcotts hope to do a small clinical trialwith individuals who have increasedinflammation in their intestines with a higherrisk for cancer. "From there, if there is anyproven efficacy, thenwewould do a larger trial tosee if there is any clinical relevance."

When the first gleaming rays of light emergefrom the vapors on the morning of Nov. 3,2010, they undoubtedly will fall on an

American political system reshaped by theRepublican Party.

While this may sound like a bold prediction, it isn’treally so audacious. National Democrats have alreadyforsaken their hold on the United States Senate, opting instead to tighten their white-knuckled grip onthe U.S. House of Representatives.

While most pundits believe the GOP’s shot atwinning back both chambers of Congress is anoutside one at best, there are very real scenarios that

by Justin Quinnusconservatives.about.com

The Year of the Republican?

Republicans need just eightseats to regain control of the

Senate, and 40 to regaincontrol of the House. With an

infinite number of possiblescenarios in the House races,

Democrats are counting on thesheer size of their majority to

insulate them from losingcontrol of the chamber.

www.amac.us | 15

Page 16: Volume_4_Issue_3

present it as a distinctpossibility. The upsidefor Republicans is that, since taking office, Obamahas struggled to strike a balancebetween when to campaign and when to lead. Alltoo often, he has chosen the wrong approach, especially when it comes to policy. Whether it is adeadline for troop withdrawal in Afghanistan, adecision to sue Arizona over one of its own laws orhis puzzling detachment from the Gulf oil crisis at atime when his nation needs him the most, Obamahas presented his party’s Congressional candidatesand incumbents with a difficult choice: distancethemselves from the president or rally around himand defend the indefensible. As the presidentcontinues to attract the wrong kinds of headlines, however, most candidates are choosing distance.

Republicans need just eight seats to regaincontrol of the Senate, and 40 to regain control ofthe House. With an infinite number of possiblescenarios in the House races, Democrats arecounting on the sheer size of their majority toinsulate them from losing control of the chamber. In the Senate, the scenarios are much simpler andthus the Republicans’ strategy is much morefocused.

Of the 36 Senate seats up for grabs in 2010,Republican incumbents occupy 11 andDemocratshold 12. Six Republicans are retiring as opposed tofive Democrats. Although a few RepublicanSenators face serious contests in the primary and/orgeneral elections, their Democratic counterpartsfacemuch stiffer challenges andwill be without theresources andmomentum their colleagues enjoyedin 2008.

A variety of factors are responsible for theDemocrats’ vulnerability in the Senate, but almostall of them can be boiled down to a strong anti-incumbent and anti-establishment mood that isbeing fostered nationally by the surprisinglyinfluential Tea Party movement and the colossalfailure of the Obama administration on almostevery front. EvenObama’s so-called “victories” have

failed to attract support forthe Democratic cause, and

in most instances havebackfired horribly. The stimulus

package is perhaps the best exampleof this. What was once billed as an economicpanacea for an ailing nation has almost universallybeen dismissed in hindsight as an early muscle flexby the Obama administration. Likewise, the greatdifficulty theWhite Housemet as it forced its healthcare reformpackage throughwhat was supposed tobe a friendly Congress has weakened the stature ofboth the President and the Democratic Party as awhole.

In the end, though, control of the Senate couldcome down to just a few well-chosen and well-funded races.

NevadaThe most compelling of these might be

in Nevada where Senate Majority LeaderHarry Reid has fallen by double digits behind hisRepublican rival, Tea Party Express candidateSharron Angle. Angle, a rock-ribbed conservativewho was unwilling to soften her views in the daysafter her nomination, originally gave pollstersreason to believe Nevada was a tossup state.Subsequent polling shot holes in that theory, however, as Angle maintained a commanding 11-point lead over Reid a full month after her primaryvictory. Debate persists over whether Nevada hasgenuinely shifted to the right politically or whetherthe wide point spread is attributable to a statewidefrustration with Reid’s leadership.

DelawareAnother battle that could determine

control of the Senate is being fought inDelaware for the seat once occupied by VicePresident Joe Biden. Biden’s son, Democratic StateAttorney General Beau Biden, initially considered

running for the 2010 Special Election (whichwill beheld onNov. 2 along with the General Election), butdeclined after hypothetical polls showed himtrailing his potential Republican opponents. Hisdecision set up a match between Chris Coons, alawyer and county executive fromWilmington, Del.and Congressman Mike Castle, who also served asthe state’s governor. While Castle is widely projectedto be the GOP’s presumptive nominee, he’ll facepolitical commentator and marketing consultantChristine O’Donnell in the state’s Sept. 14 primaryelection. O’Donnell is a veteran candidate who ranagainst Biden in 2008. While Delaware is officiallylisted as a Senate battleground state, Coons appearsto be heavily outclassed. Both Castle andO’Donnellhave polled very well against him.

IllinoisPerhaps the seat that is most coveted by

national Republicans is the one that wasvacated by President Barack Obama. RepublicanCongressman Mark Kirk is facing off against StateTreasurer Alexi Giannoulias. The race is a statisticaldead heat, with the two changing leads from poll topoll. If Republicans should capture the Illinoissenate seat, however, it would symbolize anincredible national shift in politics and serve as acrown jewel for the Republican Party.

WisconsinIn Wisconsin, both Republicans are

gaining on Incumbent Democratic Sen.Russ Feingold. Businessman Ron Johnson

is within a point of Feingold, while businessmanDavid Westlake is running just six points behind, and has been steadily gaining over the past twomonths. Who gets to face Feingold will bedetermined on Sept. 14 in the Wisconsin primaryelection.

CaliforniaCalifornia is another state where the

Democratic Incumbent is fending off aformidable challenge. Sen. BarbaraBoxer is in the fight of her career against

former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina. Fiorinais running just five points behind Boxer sincewinning the Republican nomination and has beenwithin two points in hypothetical matchups withBoxer throughout the campaign. Although Fiorinaspent considerably in the Republican primarycampaign, expect her to dump loads of cash into thegeneral election—an option that is not available toBoxer. Plus, if the race seems to be tipping Fiorina’sway come October, expect national Republicans topour resources into this race.

ColoradoIn Colorado, the Democratic

incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet likelywill sail to victory against his primary

challenger, but is a long way from gaining groundon either of his potential Republican opponents.Former Lieutenant Gov. Jane Norton has beenpolling the best in hypothetical matchups againstBennet, butWeld CountyDistrict Attorney KenBuckalso has been doing well and could gainconsiderablemomentumwith a victory in the state’sAug. 10 primary election.

ArkansasA similar story is taking place in

Arkansas, where incumbent DemocraticSen. Blanche Lincoln defeated a stiff

challenge from the far-left to beat her primaryopponent by 12 points. She’ll have to do muchbetter in the general election, however, where pollsshow her losing handily to RepublicanCongressman John Boozman.

When voters head to the polls on Nov. 2, newlyelected Republicans will have a monumental taskahead of them when that new dawn finally berthson Nov. 3. They’ll have to prove their worth to thenation andmake their case for a full-scale take overin 2012. If they don’t, a second term for PresidentObama could be a virtual certainty.

Childhelp® is a leading national non-profitorganization dedicated to helping victims of childabuse and neglect. The organization was founded in1959 by Sara O’Meara and Yvonne Fedderson, actresses who first met each other in 1958 on the setof The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet.

The story of Childhelp begins while the womenwere on a government-sponsored goodwill tour tosupport the troops in Tokyo. While on this trip theyfound 11 Japanese-American childrenwandering thestreets. They learned that the youngsters had beenturned away fromorphanages because of theirmixedheritage. They were told of a woman, Kin Horuchi, living in a one-room hut that kept several Japanese-American children.

Kin Horuchi agreed to care for the 11 additionalchildren and the ladies promised to send money tohelp the children. They thought the problem wassettled, but word of what they were doing spreadrapidly through the city. They had suddenly becomesurrogate mothers to a brood of 100 Japanese-American children that were left on the doorstep ofthe hut, which nowneeded to become an orphanage.Returning to California, the actresses began to raisefunds among friends and their families, as well as thefilm community to care for the children.

This chance happening sparked amission that hasspanned internationally for nearly 50 years andimpacted the lives of millions of children. Over theyears the pair would work together to growChildhelp® into one of the largest child abuseprevention and treatment non-profit organizations inthe country.

Today, Childhelp continues to focus onprevention, intervention and treatment. TheChildhelp National Child Abuse Hotline,1-800-4-A-CHILD®, operates 24 hours a day, sevendays a week, and receives calls from children at riskfor abuse, parents or guardians looking for crisisintervention and concerned individuals who maysuspect abuse is occurring in their neighborhood.Thehotline also provides information and referrals tothousands of emergency, social service and supportresources under complete confidentiality andanonymity.

Words matter - a lot. Ask a previous Presidentabout what his words meant when he told his thenappreciative audience to “read my lips.” George the41st paid a hefty price for failing to live up to hiswords; will Barack the 44th?Obama based his campaign message on two

simplewords, Hope andChange. Many of uswarnedof the lack of clarity these words offered. “Hope” todo what? “Change” to change what? He neverbothered to be clear on that, his media was runningblock onmaking sure he didn’t have to explain. Thathe would never have to actually use words to clarifythe words he used.In mid-May Breitbart.tv displayed an audio

recording from 2005 of then-Senator Obamacommenting that the White House needed to be“more forthcoming” about SupremeCourt nomineeHarrietMiers, sinceMiers was, in his terms, a “blankslate.” So far hisWhite House has entirely controlledaccess to his newest nominee Elena Kagan, producing an in-house public relations video withher and refusing to allowmedia access beyond that.

Obama’s words trap him. Are they wishfulthinking? Have some been outright lies? Some haveargued that the Democrats’ biggest problem wasthat they would “say things that sound good, butdon’t actually work.” I agree with the latter, but havenot been sold that they even sound good to beginwith. So let’s take a brief look at Obama’swords.Hereare just a few examples of the ever-expandingObama “it’s what I say that counts, not what Iactually do” list.

Lobbyists:Obama’s words: “I have donemore to take on

lobbyists than any other candidate in this race - andI’ve won. I don’t take a dime of their money, andwhen I am President, they won’t find a job in myWhite House” (campaign speech - Nov 3, 2007 inSpartanburg, SC - from barackobama.com)

Obama’s actions: In the first month of hisadministration, President Obama has appointedmore than 17 lobbyists after talking big on anti-lobbyist Governance and rooting corruption out ofthe American Government. (Indiadaily.com, Jan 31,2009)

War in Iraq:Obama’s words: “When I am President, I will

end this war in Iraq. I will bring our troops homewithin sixteen months” (campaign speech frombarackobama.com)

Obama’s actions: 16 months have come andgone and onMay 13, 2010 - “A Senate committee onThursday approved another $33.5 billion for thewars in Afghanistan and Iraq this year” (Reuters,May 13, 2010)

Race relations:Obama’s words: “I have asserted a firm

conviction - a conviction rooted in my faith in Godand my faith in the American people - that workingtogether we canmove beyond some of our old racialwounds” (Obama’s “race speech” March 18, 2008)

Obama’s actions: His administration iscurrently backing race-based college admissions:“The Obama administration has asked a federalappeals court to uphold a race-consciousadmissions system at the University of Texas atAustin.... The Obama administration (agrees) [The]university’s effort to promote diversity is aparamount government objective,” (Wall StreetJournal March 31, 2010) In addition his inner circleis filled with people who can assuredly becategorized as “race focused.” Attorney General Eric

The next day in Wisconsin Obama fired

back. “Her (Clinton’s) dismissive point, and

I hear it a lot from her staff, is ‘all I have to

offer is words, just words.’“ Obama

hammered that point again saying “Don’t

tell me words don’t matter” while citing a

litany of iconic speeches, i.e., Martin Luther

King’s “I have a dream,” and documents

such as The Declaration of Independence.

Holder (who has made racially inflammatoryremarks, such as referring to the U.S. as a “nation ofcowards” on race) his “former” preacher andmentorJeremiahWright, to his first SupremeCourt additionSonia Sotomayor, and many more who have maderacially charged statements.

Government Transparency:Obama’s Words: “When there is a bill that

ends up on my desk as president, you will have fivedays to look online and find out what’s in it before Isign it.” (New Hampshire June 22, 2007)

Obama’s Actions: “Five months into hisadministration, Mr. Obama has signed two dozenbills, but he has almost never waited five days.”(NewYork Times June 22, 2009)

Obama’s Words: On at least eight occasionson the campaign trail, Obama pledged to televisethe health care debate on C-SPAN and on liveinternet streaming. “We’ll have the negotiationstelevised on C-SPAN” (Barack Obama in Chester,Virginia August 21, 2008)

Obama’s Actions:Obama’s failure to open thehealth care debate to the public prompted C-SPANchief executive Brian Lamb to send a direct letter tolawmakers to request to televise their healthcarediscussions.

Taxes:Obama’s words: “If youmake under $250,000,

you will not see your taxes increase by a single dime- not your income taxes, not your payroll taxes, notyour capital gains taxes, nothing,” (Barack Obama,in a speech one week prior to the 2008 Presidentialelection)

Obama’s actions: “When asked if he could seea potential VAT in this nation, the president said: ‘Iknow that there’s been a lot of talk around townlately about the value-added tax. That is somethingthat has worked for some countries. It’s somethingthat would be novel for the United States.’“(Associated Press article April 21, 2010) The VAT taxis a massive national sales tax that would hit everysingle American citizen regardless of income.

Space exploration:Obama’s Words: Sen. BarackObama released

a comprehensive space policy Saturday thatendorsed sending astronauts back to the moon by2020 as a possible precursor for going toMars— thefirst time he’s committed to that goal— and said thereach for the stars should be aU.S.-led internationaleffort. “Human exploration beyond low-earth orbitshould be a long-term goal and investment for allspace-faring countries, with America in the lead,”the policy paper said. (Orlando Sentinel August 16,2008)

Obama’s Actions:TheObama administrationintends to move toward relying on commercially-built spacecraft, rather thanNASA’s own vehicles, tocarry humans to low-Earth orbit. The plan wouldalso involve... abandoning current plans to sendastronauts on moon missions by 2020. (space.comJanuary 28, 2010)

With these examples you could make a strongargument Obama does have some explaining to doto come up with the words to express why he is notaman of his words. However he has polished the artof avoiding answering by ensuring that other currentheadlines drive away his past failures to explain.

There are times when Obama’s words andactions do match. Immediately prior to the ‘08election in which he beat John McCain, Obamaloudly promised to an audience in Columbia,Missouri that “we are five days away fromfundamentally transforming the United States ofAmerica.”With a cast of unelected“czars” overseeingpolicy, a never-ending push to nationalize healthcare, taking control of private companies (GM, AIG,et al) and hundreds upon hundreds of billions ingross debt spending, there is, sadly for us, littledoubt that his actions have attempted at all cost tomeet those words.

On April 23, 2010, Governor Jan Brewerof Arizona signed SB1070 into law.Theimpetus for this bill was the on-going

failure of our Federal Government to protectthe borders of her state. The human toll due tothe lack of security has resulted in kidnappings, murder, rape, human trafficking, and drugsmuggling. The economic toll is significant aswell. Recent estimates released by theFederation for American Immigration Reform(FAIR) suggest that Arizona’s cost of illegalimmigration exceeds $2.7 billion annually. Sixyears ago, the organization put that cost atabout $1.3 billion. These costs includeincarceration, healthcare, welfare andeducation for the children of illegalimmigrants.

Heeding her constituent’s demands,Governor Brewer enacted this new legislationin an attempt to take some control of thesituation by providing law enforcement withincreased powers to stop and detain peoplewho are suspected of being in the countryillegally and requiring them to producedocuments verifying legal status. Arizona didsomething federal politicians don’t have theguts to do - enforce the immigration laws.

“We in Arizona have beenmore than patientwaiting for Washington to act,” Brewer saidafter signing the law. “But decades of inactionandmisguided policy have created a dangerousand unacceptable situation.”

Brewer said that she listened patiently tosupporters and opponents and that, although“many people disagree, I firmly believe itrepresents what’s best for Arizona.” Shecriticized the federal government for a lack ofaction to secure the border, and she said hersignature provided “security within ourborders.”

“We cannot sacrifice our safety to themurderous greed of drug cartels,” Brewer said.“We cannot stand idly by as drop houses, kidnappings and violence compromise ourquality of life.”

Residents of Arizona are not alone in theirsupport of the law. A recent Pew Research pollshows that the public broadly supports SB1070.Fully 73% of respondents say they approve ofrequiring people to produce documentsverifying their legal status ifpolice ask for them. Two-thirds (67%) approve ofallowing police to detainanyone who cannotverify their legal status.

Despite this over-whelming support, several states have takenit upon themselves topunish the people ofArizona by instituting atravel and hospitalityboycott. They seem tobelieve their ideas aremore important than thelivelihoods of the people of Arizona and areattempting to punish innocent people. Thestates participating in the boycott do not seemto be concerned that they are actually hurtingthe people that they aim to help. The tourismindustry is Arizona’s largest employer of legalimmigrants and these innocent minoritycitizens are the ones whowill be hurt themost.

AMAC supports the Arizona law andencourages our members and the public tovisit Arizona and schedule their meetings andconventions in the State. America is a nation ofimmigrants and its people demand that entryinto our country be done legally.

But before answering that question, onemustask, “What is a conservative?” While this seems like asimple question, I discovered through town-hallmeetings and political chat rooms that many self-described conservatives could not articulate thedifference between a modern-day conservative orliberal. Many merely stated that “Conservative equalsRepublican” and “Liberal equals Democrat,” which isno longer true.

Party propagandists want us to believe that up isdown, left is right, and that tax means invest. Partyelites were successful in their propaganda that big-government Republican programs are conservative, but “big-government” Democrat programs are liberal.TEA Partiers know that both are wrong. TEA Partiersare citizens who have learned to focus on the behaviorof their elected officials, not theirwords. I followed theTEA Party Express Bus across theUnited States in 2009and 2010, conducted interviews of hundreds ofcitizens, and determined that TEA Partiers’ fivefoundational beliefs are interconnected:

1. Constitutional compliance

2. Smaller federal government

3. States’ rights

4. Lower spending and taxes

5. Individual rights, responsibility, and integrity

Constitutional ComplianceTEA Partiers understand “Constitutional

Compliance.” LikeThomas Jefferson, they understand

that the U.S. Constitution is a restrictive, not apermissive, document. It describes the powers of theU.S. federal government and provides a toughamendment process for changing those powers. TheBill of Rights lists freedoms of our people that shouldnot be violated by the political elites and power brokersinWashington, D.C. The federal role was intentionallylimited, because history proves that the more power acentral government assumed, the less freedom theircitizens enjoy. This was true during the RomanEmpire, the monarchies of the Middle Ages, and the manydictatorships of the twentieth century.

Smaller Federal GovernmentThe size of the federal government would be

substantially smaller if our politicians strictly adheredto the powers granted in the U.S. Constitution. Theyhaven’t. For example, Mr. Obama’s top three prioritiesinclude education, energy and health care. However, entities such as theDepartments of Education, Energy,or Health and Human Services should not existbecause theywere not created through an amendmentprocess. TEA Partiers are not anarchists; we aremerelyopposed to excessive growth in government that is notauthorized by the United States Constitution.

States’ RightsOur 10th Amendment states, “The powers not

delegated to theUnited States by the Constitution, norprohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the Statesrespectively, or to the people.” In plain English, thismeans that if a very specific power is not stated in the

What the heckis a TEA Party? What is a TEA Party? That is a fair question, because

U.S. Constitution, then our states or people retain thatpower. This reinforces theTEA Party stance against anenlarged U.S. federal government. The federalDepartment of Education consumes billions of our taxdollars, but does not educate. Just think of theimprovements we could make in the classroom if wedid not have federal bureaucrats skimming off the topof our education budget!

Lower Spending and TaxesShrinking the U.S. government results in less

federal spending; hence fewer unnecessary taxeswould be confiscated from our paychecks. The federaland state tax systems in theUnited States are intendedto serve separate functions with distinct jurisdictions. But the federal government has encroached upon stateand local roles as well. The U.S. income tax began in1913 with rates beginning at 1 percent and rising to 7percent for taxpayers with higher income; however, less than 1 percent of the population paid income taxat that time. Today, many of us lose almost a third ofour wages to an insatiable federal appetite. TEA is anacronym that stands for Taxed Enough Already! Justthink of what you could buy if federal rates shrunkfrom 33% back to the original 1% of income – or noneat all!

Individual Rights, Responsibility, andIntegrity

There was a time in our nation when individualresponsibility and integrity did not need to beexplained. However, we now live in a society ruled by a

legal system which makes excuses for convictedmurderers (e.g., he had a “bad childhood”) or forgroups of individuals (to include those who are hereillegally). This “victimology” mentality allows thefederal government to act as a monarch dictating toher serfs. TEA Partiers understand that integrity isinseparable from individual responsibility.

TEA Partiers do not believe in a class-based orcaste-based society where elected officials are allowedto lie, cheat, or steal, but common citizens areprosecuted for similar conduct. TEA Partiers believe inthe rule of law and fairness to all American citizens.

So what is a TEA Party? A TEA Party is merely agroup of American citizens who have decided thatenough is enough! We are the modern-day freedomfighters, who understand that our personal freedomrelies upon our economic freedom. Andwe are fightingto ensure that our children and grandchildren do notbecome indentured servants to self-serving politicalelites in Washington. I am an Association of MatureAmerican Citizens (AMAC) member for the samereason that I am a TEA Partier – my belief in Faith,Family, and Freedom.

DR. B. LELAND BAKER is the author of “Tea PartyRevival: The Conscience of a Conservative Reborn - The Tea PartyRevolt Against Unconstrained Spending and Growth of theFederal Government.”Dr Baker was a speaker at numerous TEAParty rallies and theNationalTea Party Convention. Hewas alsofeatured on a PBS Special on the Tea Party Movement.

Obama Targets Militaryfor Pay Reductions

President Barack Obama — who came to powerwith the help of government employee unions acrossthe nation and has lavished on them hundreds ofbillions in stimulus funds to keep them on federal, state and local payrolls with no strings attached — ismoving to cut spending on salaries for militarypersonnel. The Washington Post has disclosed that

the Obama administration is “pleading” withCongress to give military personnel amuch smaller increase in pay thanlawmakers have proposed. Butcongressional supporters of the menand women in the Armed Services arequestioningwhy they are being singledout for future pay cutbackswhen othergovernment agencies and unions arenot.

For example, an average sergeant inthe Armywith four years of service andone dependent would receive $52,589

in annual compensation, according tothe paper. This figure includes basic pay, housing, andsubsistence allowances, as well as tax benefits.Meanwhile, a U.S. postal letter carrier, with nosupervisory or hazardous duty, makes approximately$80,000 a year when all benefits are factored in.

Bathroom BillThere are people in public office todaywhowant to

take away our rights and individual liberty and replaceit with government control.

Government takes away our money through taxesso government can decide how we live. That’s not theway it should be.

AMAC, The Association of Mature AmericanCitizens, is organizing to stand up for your rights.Recently the N.Y. State Senate Judiciary Committeevoted 12 to 11 to reject the Bathroom Bill. The billwould have opened all public rest rooms, high schoollocker rooms and health clubs to both biologicalgenders, so a man could go into the ladies roombecause inwardly he felt like a female.

AMAC thinks government should stay out of thebathroom. If you think it’s time to stand up fortraditional American values – join AMAC. Go towww.amac.us.

Health Care Bill Watch

1099 New TaxesSection 9006 of the health care bill — just a few

lines buried in the 2,409-page document—mandatesthat beginning in 2012 all companies will have to issue1099 tax forms not just to contract workers but to anyindividual or corporation from which they buy morethan $600 in goods or services in a tax year. The stealthchange radically alters the nature of 1099s andmeansbusinesses will have to issue millions of new taxdocuments each year.

The bill makes two key changes to how 1099s areused. First, it expands their scope by using them totrack payments not only for services but also fortangible goods. Plus, it requires that 1099s be issuednot just to individuals, but also to corporations. Takentogether, the two seemingly small changes will requiremillions of additional forms to be sent out.

“It’s a pretty heavy administrative burden,”particularly for small businesses without large in-house accounting staffs, says Bill Rys, tax counsel forthe National Federation of Independent Businesses. The new requirements kick in January 1, 2012.

Health Insurance Premiums:Will They Be Taxed?

Beginning January 2011, yourW-2 tax form sent byyour employer will show, for informational purposes, the cost of your employer paid health insurance.Manyare concerned that sometime in the future, thesebenefits may be taxed.

a term coined for the practice of allowing pregnantforeign nationals to give birth in the United States forthe purpose of obtaining “Birthright Citizenship.”Thisterm refers to a loophole that allows children born inAmerica, regardless of their parent’s legal status, tobecome citizens. For about $30,000 dollars, expectantmothers are provided with airfare, medical treatmentand hotel accommodations (this hotel is owned byTurkish nationals). SensationalSalads

Summer is the perfect season to showcaserefreshing, delicious, satisfying salads.Supermarkets, farmersmarkets, roadside standsand backyard gardens are all bursting with

locally grown, full flavored, fresh produce. Salads canbe somuchmore than the standard lettuce, tomato andcucumber creation that you’ve come to expect. Thepossibilities are endless, and these simple tips can helpyou turn a ho-hum concoction into an exciting saladthat you and your guests can thoroughly enjoy.

Get creative with greens – mix and match avariety of colors, flavors and textures using spinach, romaine, arugula, radicchio, endive, iceberg, red andgreen leaf lettuces.

Packaged salad blends are a convenient start, andthere are many varieties available.

Small amounts of chopped fresh herbs, such asparsley, dill, chives or basil add a whole new flavordimension.

Add an assortment of vegetables – raw (cabbage, fennel, peas), roasted (onions, mushrooms, carrots),grilled (peppers, zucchini, eggplant) or lightly steamed(green beans, asparagus, cauliflower).

Fruits such as berries, apples, mandarin oranges, pears, driedcranberries and raisins add color, flavor and vitamins.

Shredded cheddar, parmesan, crumbled blue, goat, feta and briecheeses are also a wonderful addition to any salad.

Add a bit of crunch – croutons, toasted or candied nuts, baconbits, sunflower or sesame seeds - even fresh corn kernels.

Salads are usually served as a first course or side dish, but addinga protein can turn a vegetable salad into a hearty main dish. Seafood, chicken, meat, hard boiled eggs and beans are all possibilities, and usingalready prepared rotisserie chicken, canned tuna or frozen cookedshrimp are a convenient way to save time.

Take advantage of grocery store salad bars where smalleramounts of various toppings are available.

Play around with salad dressing flavors by adding mincedshallots, garlic, ginger or scallions or by adding honey, hot sauce, soysauce or mustard.

Experiment with specialty oils – walnut, hazelnut, sesame; andvinegars – champagne, raspberry and sherry; which can nowbe found inmost large food stores.

Prevent soggy greens, by tossing salad fixings and dressings justprior to serving.

Chill serving plates to keep your salads crisper longer.
