Volume of Rectangular Prisms
Objective:
Learn to find the volume of a rectangular prism.
In a 3 dimensional figure…
- a face is a flat surface.
- the sides are called lateral faces.
- The edges are the segments formed by the intersecting faces.
- The edges intersect at the vertices.
- 3D figures have length, width, and depth (or height).
Volume of a Rectangular Prism
• The volume of a three dimensional figure is the measure of the space occupied by it.
• It is measured in cubic units such as cubic centimeters (cm3) or cubic inches (in3 ).
• The Volume of a Rectangular Prism
• The volume V of a rectangular prism is the product of the length L, the width W and the height H.
• Formula: V = L × W × H
Example 1:
V = l × w × h
V = 7cm × 4cm × 10cm
V = 280 cm3
