District Courts Pilot IOS

In the five Cook County district courthouses,

several criminal felony courtrooms are now

active in the Interactive Orders System (IOS)

Parallel Pilot program, as the system is being

rolled out in the Suburban Bureau since Sep-

tember 8, 2015.

For the IOS Parallel Pilot rollout, each District

Court Presiding Judge selects which courtroom

is next to go live with the technology. Currently

there are nine courtrooms involved. As each

courtroom is recommended for the Parallel

Pilot, the Clerk of Court’s tech teams must first

assess the potential courtroom to ensure that it

is equipped and functional for the IOS. Then,

the tech team trains that courtroom’s judge,

court clerks, assistant state’s attorneys, and

public defenders. The trainers may consistently

work with a courtroom’s staff for up to two

weeks if needed to acclimate all parties to the

IOS technology.

Once the parallel pilot is active in a court-

room, the tech team will have troubleshooters

available for additional support.

The IOS Parallel Pilot continues to be rolled

out in the district courtrooms. The plan is to

complete the felony, then the misdemeanor,

domestic violence and criminal/traffic court-

rooms.

See a chart of IOS Parallel Pilot District courtrooms on

page 3.

Courtroom Clerks’ Questions About IOS

ASKED & ANSWERED

Clerk of Court Installs New,

Digital Access Terminals for Public Use

Will there be something to indicate when a

defendant is in custody?

Answer: Yes, the IOS will operate in real time

and the court session lets you know by the

‘custody status’ column as

to whether the defendant is

in custody and where [IDOC,

CCDOC, etc.]. You may filter

the cases in order to have

these cases heard first if

necessary.

Can you amend charges?

Answer: Yes, the SAO will

have the ability to amend

the charges in the electron-

ic order and send to the

Judge for review and elec-

tronic signature.

What if there is a heavy call volume and the

cases are transferred to another courtroom?

Answer: The judge enters a transfer order

through the judicial module.

Do we still need an entered stamp?

Answer: No, this will be

electronically completed.

The clerk accepting/

confirming the order upon

receipt takes the place of

utilizing the existing

“Entered” stamp after the

judge electronically signs

the order.

Are there any other coun-

ties that are utilizing

[IOS]?

Answer: No, this system is

being built in house by the

Clerk of the Circuit Court developers.

New Digital Access Terminals (DAT) used by the

public to review court case information and ac-

cess digitized imaged court documents have been

installed by the Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court

in all of its locations.

Formerly known as Public Access Terminals, the

DATs operate an innovative, user-friendly electron-

ic docket search system that allows users to easily

navigate through court information/activity for

civil, criminal and traffic case types.

The new terminals also feature an appealing

home screen (shown above) with scrolling banners

that highlight the various Clerk’s Office E-Court

programs and services.

Users can easily access and view imaged court

documents on the terminals, and order printed

copies of the digital images if needed.

The Clerk of Court has almost 200 million im-

aged documents accessible via the Digital Access

Terminals.

The Clerk of Court’s Court Operations divisions and districts have Digital Access Terminals available for use

in Electronic Images Review Areas.
