Happy New Year everyone!

Our weather, though nice for being

outside and for the heating bill,

hasn’t been too rosy for the tourism

industry which depends on snow

and cold and is the lifeblood of the

Northwoods. I was glad to see the

snowmobile trails open up in late

December and though they weren’t

in the best condition, there were

people on them and it gave a boost

to all the businesses that rely on

them in the winter.

It’s that time of the year again where

the MLS will be seeking broker/

owners to serve on the MLS

board. There will be several

positions opening up including

President-Elect, Treasurer and 3

Director seats. I would encourage

any broker/owners to contact

President-Elect Jackie Leonard if

you are interested in serving. It is

an eye opening experience as to

what goes on behind the scenes and

what it takes to keep the MLS

operating smoothly, not to mention

it is rewarding knowing that you are

doing your part by volunteering.

Also, the GNMLS Nominating

Committee is being appointed soon

and is tasked with preparing a slate

of nominees from among GNMLS

Participants (Broker-Owners &

Appraisers). If you are contacted by

a member of the committee and

asked to run for a seat on the

GNMLS Board, I hope you will say

“YES”! The election takes place at

the spring golf outing/dinner

meeting and those who get elected

will be sworn in at the September

dinner meeting for a 2-year term.

Brokers, please take time to review

the GNMLS annual report that Lon

recently sent to you and also the

c u r r e n t M L S Po l i c i e s a n d

Procedures manual to make your

agents aware of changes.

Finally, best wishes go out to all the

recently retired REALTORS who

made 2018 their last year!

Until next month, think snow!

review the ethics and arbitration dispute resolution

processes including grievance and hearing panels,

mediation and ombudsman services. Attendees will also

gain a deeper understanding of procuring cause and how to

avoid being on the receiving end of a complaint.

There is no cost for NWAR Members and the cost for others is $25 to attend.

Calling all Appraisers! WRA invites all Wisconsin licensed appraisers to

register for the 2019 WRA Appraisal Conference on March 11-12 at Kalahari

Resort in Wisconsin Dells.

This year’s conference schedule includes a 7-hour National USPAP Update

course, a Writing It Better course with exercises in preparing summary

comments and supplement form reporting, and an Appraising Rural

Residential Property course that would surely be useful to Appraisers in much

of the Northwoods. Additional offerings at the conference include classes on

disaster valuation, cost approach and sales grid adjustments and several product/service exhibits.

Registration includes 2-day, 1-day and half-day options ranging from $90-$280 for WRA Members who register by

February 25th.

Winter is a good time to tweak your

marketing. Consider setting up your

FREE Xposure agent webpage and

then adding that to your PCS client

email. The link would look something

like this: http://lonfisk.realtyhd.com/

Then you are not only providing your

customers with properties matching

their search criteria, but also giving

them a link to explore all the current

MLS listings and share that with

others if they want to, all with your

personal branding being distributed.

If you prefer the Interface client

printouts with photos, this is now the

default layout in Express. Choose the

“1 per page: Client” layout if you

want to email listings with the live

links to photos, map location, etc.

Remember to run your EOY reports to

save your sales history for 2018 with

Sales – Firm/Agent and others that

can be found in Express > Reports.

AE Corner MLS Memo

The 2018 NWAR Year-End Report will

be emailed to Members soon. Please

look it over to see how our membership

numbers and finances have performed

over the past several years (not bad if

you ask me). This report also recaps our

2018 goals and accomplishments, looks

to the year ahead and includes an

updated Strategic Plan. I invite anyone

with ideas of how we can better serve

you to contact me and/or consider

volunteering on our Strategic Planning

Committee in 2019.

Last week, we sent a safety alert via

Facebook and email to Members

regarding unusual behavior by a

consumer who was using varying

names. While we of course would like

to share every last detail, we cannot

“name names” based solely upon odd

behavior since doing so could be

considered defamatory. Our board will

soon discuss how to best handle these

situations going forward. Please stay

safe out there and visit nar.realtor/

safety for some helpful resources.

Policies & Procedures as you begin the new

year. See: goo.gl/SWXuiv

We kept our streak alive by once again zooming past our 2018 RPAC fundraising goal with nearly 50% of Members

making an investment in RPAC in 2018. The 2017-18 legislative session turned out to be a record breaker with

nearly 70 REALTOR legislative victories in Madison. Whether you gave $10 or $1000, your RPAC contribution was

and is critical in helping WRA and RPAC to promote laws that protect homeownership and the real estate industry.

Thank you to everyone who gave any amount, and especially to our 2018 RPAC Champions below who gave far

beyond the guideline of $35 per Member. We likewise thank all who donated, bidded and volunteered at our RPAC
