Youth Program at Weber Road This past Sunday, the elders announced that Stephen Charlebois has taken responsibility for coordinating the youth activities while we search for a new Youth/Associate minister. Stephen and his wife, Erin, have been very active in the work of the Weber Road church family. We are very thankful for their willingness to fill an important need.

Weber Road is blessed with 53 families that have children and teenagers. There are 33 young people in the 6th through 12th grades and we have over 50 children from birth through 5th grade. There are many activities every year and it takes a lot of combined effort, even with a full-time youth minister, to keep things rolling along.

A strong youth and family program can be a positive source of energy for any congregation. Weber Road’s program through the years has sought to provide opportunities for Bible study, service, and social events that allow young people and families to bond and encourage one another.

As was announced, Stephen will be the youth program coordinator. This means that he will be planning the youth calendar and making sure that activities have proper adult supervision and organization. Stephen will also be the director of this year’s Youth Rally at Camp Bandina (Saturday and Sunday, October 21st-22nd).

Here are some things that will be needed while the Youth Minister search is ongoing:

• Parents are needed to chaperone each activity (other adults are often welcomed to assist—see Stephen)

• Please make a strong effort to keep up with the weekly calendar

• Suggestions for activities are welcomed in both the Youth Program (6-12 grades) and Families for Christ (5 grade and under)

• Keep Stephen and the search for a Youth Minister in your prayers

• Be sure to encourage Stephen and Erin and thank them for their service

• Get your children and family involved in the Weber Road youth and family programs

Looking back over the last 25 years at Weber Road, the evidence is overwhelmingly strong that those families and young people who are very active in worship, Bible classes and the youth program will be more likely to establish a life long faith! Be an ACTIVE member of the Lord’s body (the church) which meets on Weber Road! Again, we thank the Charlebois family for their effort to help when help is most needed.

It is a mystery why Bible classes are not busting at the seams. Bible classes at Weber Road are held every Sunday morning at 9:00 AM and Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM. These classes are for the youngest (babies i.e. Cradle Roll) through the oldest. The average attendance at Weber Road on Sunday morning is about 265 whereas the Sunday morning Bible class attendance is around 155 and Wednesday class attendance is about the same. While some who attend worship are visitors, we have many members who never take advantage of the rich opportunities of Bible classes. Let’s pose several questions that every Christian ought to consider:

How can we demonstrate God’s will if we don’t show a love for His Word? Classes are primarily about learning about God’s

will from the Bible and making practical applications. As Christians, we must develop a love for the inspired Word because there is NO OTHER place where we can find instruction and guidance from our Creator. We are told in 2 Peter 3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.” (ESV) If you love the Word of God, you will make every effort to be in Bible classes. If you want to grow in this love, please join us for your understanding and affection for the Bible to grow.

Why don’t we want to be with our church family to learn about them and encourage them? Every Bible class gives us the opportunity to share questions and thoughts with our brothers and sisters in Christ. While classes are not meant to be a social gathering, they do provide us with time together. This is especially true with our children and teenagers. Every question, story, example and application used while studying the Bible will help us grow closer together. It should not be a surprise that those who dedicate themselves to participating in Bible classes every week will know more about how to handle life as a Christian. They will also have a better understanding of God’s will for their life than one who does not show the same dedication to the Word of God. While we can study on our own, why wouldn’t we want to study with our fellow Christians at least twice every week? Paul instructed Timothy to “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 Let’s make it a priority to join the church in Bible study.

Don’t we want to give our children and teenagers every advantage of knowing God and the Bible? We would make a HUGE appeal to every parent to give your children (entrusted in your care by God) the equivalent of 1,700 hours of Bible instruction from birth to the age of 18. Once those years are gone, you can never get them back. While written in the Old Testament, parents should have the same determination to teach God’s Word as is found in Deuteronomy 6:4-9, “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and

when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

There are many other reasons why Bible classes are important, but these three questions ought to be on our minds when it’s time to get up and get ready for Sunday morning or Wednesday evening class. The old axiom is true in life and also in regards to Bible class and worship: “We make time to do what we want to do.” Will you make time for weekly study of God’s Word with your Christian family? Will you make these two hours per week a priority as you raise your children? While everyone will face struggles and temptations, those who have a firm grasp of God’s Word will be better able to cope with life.

We hope to see you this Sunday at 9:00 AM and Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM.
